Chapter 73
Chapter 73 Rejecting Him
Jackson didn't say a word; he simply tossed the menu in front of Emily.
The menu was a hardcover book, and its impact on the table made a loud noise, startling Emily.
"Did I startle you?" Jackson furrowed his brow, reaching out as if to pat her for comfort, but Emily quickly dodged.
Jackson's hand awkwardly hung in the air for a moment before he withdrew it.
The awkwardness wasn't just on Jackson's side; Emily felt it too.
Mr. Taylor must know about her and Nathan, and she went to work for Jackson. If there was anything ambiguous between her and Jackson, how would Mr. Taylor see her? Emily frowned. Mr. Taylor had always been kind to her, and she didn't want to leave a bad impression on him.
By now, Mr. Taylor had understood everything. He maintained his kind smile and defused the awkwardness, "Shall I order instead? I'm the oldest here, so I'll go first, alright?" Jackson took the menu and handed it to Mr. Taylor. "Of course."
Jackson smiled politely, but he wasn't here today just for the food.
He initially thought Emily was naive, but now he realized she was cunning. If he didn't use some means, he wouldn't be able to win her over. Luckily, he ran into Olivia at the hospital, so he found an excuse to arrange this lunch.
Mr. Taylor continued to smile amiably, ordering dishes with great concentration.
"Let's order some crab; they're best eaten at this time of year. And let's have some red wine too; it's absolutely delicious. What do you think?" "I'm fine with anything," Jackson shrugged.
Mr. Taylor nodded and then turned to Emily, "What do you think, Emily?"
"Dad, Emily can't eat crab right now," Olivia interjected. The doctor had advised Emily to eat less seafood.
Mr. Taylor was somewhat surprised, "Oh? Is Emily feeling unwell?"
"Are you unwell?" Jackson instantly became nervous. "Where do you feel uncomfortable?"
Emily felt embarrassed. "I'm not uncomfortable... Olivia, shall we switch seats? I'm sitting by the window, and I feel a bit cold."
"Oh, sure!"
Olivia immediately stood up and switched seats with Emily, sitting between Jackson and Emily, effectively blocking Jackson's gaze towards Emily.
After changing seats, Emily instantly felt much more at ease.
On her left was Mr. Taylor, on her right was Olivia. She no longer felt the intense scrutiny of a pair of eyes, and she felt a bit more relaxed.
Mr. Taylor also chimed in with a smile, "Emily has always been a gentle and kind girl. Olivia, if you could be as hard-working as Emily, your mom and I would be happy."
Olivia playfully stuck out her tongue.
Mr. Taylor ordered a few more light dishes, returned the menu to the waiter, and gave an extra instruction, "Bring in a cup of hot milk."
"Why did you say nothing when you weren't feeling well?" Jackson stood up directly, bypassing Olivia and walking straight to Emily's side. His large hand reached out and touched her forehead. Emily was startled and quickly slapped his hand away. "I'm fine."
"Your temperature is normal, so you
probably don't have a fever," Jackson said, his hands on his hips as he looked down at her. "If you're feeling unwell, you can tell me. There's no need to force yourself. No Emily, get up. I'll take you to the hospital."
As he spoke, he reached out to grab her hand.
ét
Emily quickly stood up and stepped back, standing next to Mr. Taylor. "I'm really fine. I'm just a little cold, but after switching seats, I'm not cold anymore. Can we please not do this?'m just an employee, working to earn money. I really don't want to get into anything else."
"I didn't talk about work; if you need money, I can give it to you."
Knock, knock, knock-the door to the private room was knocked open, and the waiter brought in red wine and a cup of hot milk.
Emily took the cup of hot milk and raised it with a faint smile. "Today, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for giving me a job. I'll work even harder at the upcoming car shows."
How could Jackson not understand what she meant?
"If you really want to thank me, then drink this bottle of wine."
With a bang, a bottle of red wine was placed in front of her.
Emily looked up and saw Jackson staring at her.
He didn't want her to easily sever their relationship, so he deliberately made things difficult for her.
Mr. Taylor chuckled, "Oh, Jackson, Emily is a girl. It's not good to make her drink so much wine, is it?"
"If she wants to thank me, then she should show her gratitude," Jackson retorted.
Emily gritted her teeth.
Olivia couldn't bear to see it anymore. "Jackson, what are you doing? Emily just rejected you, and you're so touchy about it? A grown man like you can't even handle a girl's rejection? You're too fragile!" Emily quickly pulled Olivia's sleeve, shaking her head to remind her not to say any more. "Olivia..."
At Jackson's words, he crossed his
arms and looked at her. "Okay, Emily,
so many people are helping you... Oh, by the way, after the car show ended, many men came to me asking for your contact information. You're quite something! I can handle rejection, but if you want to reject

me, you have to give me a reason. Tell me, what makes your man
better than me? As long as you can make me admire him, I'll leave immediately."
