Chapter 101
Chapter 101 The Haunted House
After hanging up the phone, Emily still hadn't quite recovered her senses.
Mr. Satan's final words...
Even though he hadn't said anything particularly romantic, it was enough to keep her blushing for a while.
"Hey, you... Beauty, what are you thinking about? Why are you smiling for so long?"
Herry parked the go-kart by the side, and the staff were helping him undo his safety harness and helmet.
Emily snapped back, "Are you done playing?"
"Once is enough. There are so many rides here, playing the same one over and over gets boring!" Herry said as his harness was being released. He jumped straight off the go-kart, startling the female staff member into a gasp. Emily was used to his style by now. Herry had mellowed out considerably. He listened to Emily now; after all, he needed her signature for whatever ride he wanted to play next.
"Beauty, how about we try the swinging hammer? It's exhilarating!"
Emily's face showed refusal. "You go ahead; I'll wait here."
"What fun is it if I go alone? Come on, don't be a spoilsport!" Herry grabbed her hand and headed towards the swinging hammer.
Emily was taken aback. Thankfully, she was wearing white sneakers today; after a stumble, she managed to regain her balance. But even so, Herry's strength nearly knocked her off her feet.
Her courage had diminished since she became pregnant.
Approaching the swinging hammer, Emily realized a fact: this was a popular ride and there was a long queue. There were already many people ahead; they would probably have to wait for 40 minutes.
Herry was displeased. "We shouldn't have come on the weekend. Too many people. Who knows when it'll be our turn?"
Emily, however, breathed a sigh of relief. She didn't want to play this thrilling ride at all.
"How about we check out other rides?"
"No need. Each ride has a long line. Only fewer people are waiting for the go-karts," Herry suddenly brightened, pointing to a bungee jump nearby. "Let's try that! It's even more thrilling than the swinging hammer, and there are fewer people in line!" Emily's legs went weak at the thought and she firmly refused. "I'm not going."
"Come on, are you scared? What happened to that fiery spirit you showed just now? Turns out you're just a scaredy-cat." Herry sneered at her, very disdainful.
Emily didn't bother arguing with him.
Being pregnant, she couldn't play such thrilling games. Actually, even if she wasn't pregnant, she wouldn't want to play.
Those heart-racing challenges weren't her thing.
They stood at an impasse for a moment, but ultimately, Herry relented first. His time was limited; he wanted to play more games rather than waste it arguing with Emily. "Alright, alright, let's go for something safer then, okay?"
Emily's face brightened a bit. "How about we go on the carousel?"
"The carousel? That's something for girls. I'm not sitting on that." Herry frowned.
Emily raised an eyebrow. "Do you talk to your mom like this at home?"
Herry shrugged. "What's wrong? I didn't curse."
Emily thought for a moment and decided it wasn't worth continuing the conversation.
"Hey, beauty, can you stop
dilly-dallying? I might as well go back to the rest area and find my dad. If I'm not having fun, your company won't sell any tickets."
Emily hesitated.
It wasn't that she was afraid of Herry finding his dad, but rather facing Sophia and Nathan.
Just a moment ago, Jackson was there to shield her; otherwise, Nathan's gaze would have pierced right through her!
She was here to assist Jackson, and she couldn't create trouble.
She sighed lightly. "Okay, as long as it's a safe game, I'll play with you."
Herry seemed to have already decided and pulled her directly towards the haunted house.
"What is this?"
"The haunted house!" Herry said. "It's completely safe; the ghosts in here are all played by the staff, they won't harm you!" Emily's face didn't look too good.
Herry deliberately added, "You can't go back on your word. You just promised me, now you can't back out."
Emily gritted her teeth. Ghosts were e
fake anyway; as long as she remembered that, she'd be fine. And she had a feeling that, given Herry's personality, he might actually startle the ghosts inside. FindNovel
Thinking like this, the haunted house didn't seem so scary after all.
"Let's go!" Herry held her hand and walked in. "Don't be afraid. If you're not even afraid of me, why fear these fake ghosts?"
Emily chuckled. "You have a pretty clear sense of yourself, don't you?"
Herry puffed his cheeks. "I know how you guys see me. Anyway, you have to accompany me today."
Emily nodded. "Alright, just don't cry when you see the ghosts later."
"Girls cry. I'm a boy; I definitely won't cry. I'll defeat those ghosts!" With that, Herry threw a punch into the darkness.
Inside the haunted house, it was almost pitch black, making it hard to see the surroundings.
Only a few dim lights barely
illuminated small areas. The colors here were green and red, coupled
with eerie, terrifying music that made Emily's hair stand on end.

Herry had entered confidently but soon started to feel scared after a few steps. He tightly held Emily's hand, his palm sweating.
"Are you scared?"
Emily whispered, "A little. How about you?"
"I..." Herry paused. "I... also a little."
Emily suggested, "Since we haven't been here for so long, shall we go back?"
But Herry immediately disagreed. "No way! We're already in; we can't just chicken out without finishing the haunted house tour!"
However, his voice was already trembling.
Just then, they heard a faint rustling sound behind them, growing closer...
