Our love

Chapter 6

C06

The day to enter Yoseph Mountain came quickly. Owen said he wanted to see me off, but I declined.

I really didn’t want to deal with him.

But Natalie and the others insisted on waiting and kept teasing me.

“Finally, Owen let you go this time. Before he cherished you too much, you missed many opportunities,” Natalie said with a smile.

I didn’t argue. Before, it was my fault too. I had given up too much for Owen.

But we waited from morning until almost departure time, and Owen never showed up.

I told Natalie to get on the car first. We couldn’t waste time because of me. But Natalie and the others said we were going for too

long, worried we as a couple couldn’t bear it.

I called Owen several times, but he didn’t answer. When I checked my social media, I saw Alice’s post.

“Traveling with my loved one makes long trips feel short. Taking off now, turning off my phone, see you when I land.”

I then remembered today was the day Owen and the others were going abroad. I apologized to Natalie, turned on my phone, and

left a message for Owen.

“Let’s break up, Owen.”

After that, I deleted and blocked him, and I also deleted Alice from my social media.

The world finally became quiet.

Natalie seemed unhappy, kept talking to me. She said young couples were like this, and Owen must have been delayed by

something.

“Yes, probably.”

I didn’t tell them about the breakup. I felt very calm. Entering Yoseph Mountain for research had always been our dream.

The car drove slowly on the mountain road. Sunlight rarely penetrated the dense forest.

The scene was surreal and beautiful.

When we reached the entrance, we saw a group of purple–pink butterflies. There was a butterfly valley open to the public not far

from here.

We were heading to an undeveloped area. The road was difficult, getting muddier the further we went.

But our team was professional. The miasma inside was thick. Natalie told me to follow carefully.

“We might discover rare plants here. Let’s hope for good luck,” said Natalie.

“We definitely will, Natalie.”

I smiled and followed their steps. In the silent forest, I felt the truest purity, a cleansing of the soul.

“Was this the place you were willing to protect at all costs?”

I seemed to understand. Following Natalie upward, I saw many plants unseen outside. I photographed and recorded their

conditions, lying on the ground.

A colleague joked, “The mosquitoes here are well–fed. Look how big they are.”

I laughed and replied, “Shh, keep it down. I’ve heard there are rare wolves here.”

I wasn’t wrong. A few years ago, villagers saw them outside the forest, but due to over–exploitation, that wolf species had become

We didn’t take it seriously and continued inward. It was getting late, and Natalie chose a place to settle.

I returned to the tent, opened my notebook, and saw the mottled marks on it.

“I finally came to the place you once walked, lan.” My heart couldn’t stop racing. Seeing his notes, he was equally excited when he

arrived here.

My eyes welled up, and tears dampened the notes.

That night.

It was quiet all around, but I couldn’t sleep. A colleague near me asked if I heard any noise.

“Wolves… It’s the sound of wolves.”

I became alert, remembering the notes. They seemed to have encountered wolves that night too.

“We can’t be that unlucky, right?” My colleague was nervous and scared. I held her hand, silently praying.

But the next second, the ground shook violently. Something more terrifying than wolves happened. Yoseph Mountain had an

earthquake!

There was no time to escape. Our bodies shook violently. The ground seemed to crack, and trees kept falling.

We were lucky. When the trees fell, they formed a triangle that protected us. Natalie said we had to leave. We couldn’t stay any

longer.

There could be aftershocks. It was too dangerous here.
