Oops, I’ve Been Exposed

Chapter 40 by Lorelei Thunder

Shane and Mindy relocated to an unassuming family inn in Southpoint. They had been moved here because the Cartwrights held power in this area. No one would dare to come over and cause a stir.

Helen had booked out the whole hotel. Apart from Shane and Mindy, the only other guests were bodyguards sent by the Cartwright family to ensure their safety.

Sasha went up the stairs doubtfully and knocked on the door of a room. Coming!” Sasha let down her guard when she saw Mindy opening the door. Inside, she saw Shane and Woody.

Sasha frowned. “Why did you ask me to come here? I’m not in the mood to dine with someone I hate.”

Shane reprimanded her harshly. ” Watch your words. After you left in the afternoon, Woody saved me and your mom. He even helped us get back 300 thousand dollars from the loan sharks!”

“What? Him? You have to be kidding!” Sasha refused to believe it.

She always thought that Woody was a feeble scholar like Shane. In contrast, the loan sharks were thugs, and many of them were vicious fighters, too. How could Woody have possibly gotten the money from the loan sharks?

Shane and Mindy told Sasha how it happened and even showed Sasha the transaction records to prove it. With the proof in front of her, Sasha had no choice but to believe it.

“300 thousand dollars isn’t an extravagant amount, but it can resolve our family problems for now,” Shane said, smiling.

He always felt that he hadn’t treated his daughter well enough. Now that he had some money, he was determined to make up for that.

He had to thank Woody, too. If it weren’t for him, they wouldn’t have been able to get this money back, and Roman would have also taken thousands more from them.

In light of this, Shane decided to spend the 300 thousand dollars on both of them. Firstly, he would buy a car for them so that they had some means of transport to and from work. He would think of the rest later.

Although Sasha was pleasantly surprised, that didn’t change her disgust toward Woody. She turned to him and said, “Get off your high horse! It’s because of you that we borrowed from the loan sharks in the first place, so it’s only reasonable for you to get it back for us. Don’t think that I’d be indebted to you over this!”

Woody shook his head. “Of course not!”

“You know, my dad spent one million dollars on you. This is what you owe our family!” Sasha continued.

Shane reprimanded her, “Why would you mention those things? We’re all family here, so let’s not discuss money here. No matter how important money is, it’s nothing when it comes to family!

Woody said earnestly, “Shane, Mindy, Sasha, don’t worry. I’ll repay you twice as much.”

Woody didn’t want to startle them, but he only had to tap on his phone to transfer one million dollars to them. He could even give them 100 million dollars. It was just spare change to him.

“Don’t be all talk. You can boast all you want, but I’ll wait for you to act.” Sasha didn’t care about the impact of her words as she rolled her eyes again.

Time flew by. In the blink of an eye, it was the day of the charity dinner. To make things easier for Woody, Helen had chosen Hillside Hotel to host the charity dinner.

As night fell, the hotel’s entrance was basked in radiant light. Car after car drove over, chauffeuring wealthy and famous people to the hotel. It was quite a bustling sight as everyone was dressed to the nines.

The men wore smart suits as they engaged in conversation with each other. The women, on the other hand, adorned their most precious jewelry in an attempt to outshine each other.

In the presidential suite upstairs, Woody was on a call.

“Mr. Henderson, it’s about time. I’ll escort you downstairs,” Helen said respectfully over the phone.

Woody declined politely. “It’s okay, I can get downstairs by myself.”

Helen seemed slightly disappointed as she said, “Alright, then. Be sure to call me after you’ve arrived. I’ll meet you at the entrance.”
