Oops, I’ve Been Exposed

Chapter 27 by Lorelei Thunder

His wife asked for a divorce because all she wanted was money, power, and status. His brother-in-law was an ingrate. He came to Woody’s door along with Woody’s mother-in-law. The two of them were like thugs, utterly disrespectful, and kept asking for money.

Woody thought Dickson would be a reasonable person. He didn’t expect him to be the same as the rest of them. In fact, he might even be worse.

It was like the old saying, “Birds of a feather flock together”.

“Do they need a reason to scam you of your money?” Woody said coldly. He was utterly disappointed by the Yorks.

He wondered if he was too naive back then or if they were just too good at putting up appearances. He never realized what terrible people they were.

Trudy glared at Woody as her temper flared up. She stomped her foot, pointed at Woody, and yelled, “You’re talking nonsense! That’s slander. You’re framing me!

“You conspired with that bitch to attack me and Brutus. Now, my whole body hurts! And my poor son. He’s so young, but you two broke his legs. He’s only 24 years old. His life would be over if this left him with some disability.

“You took off right after you beat us up. Naturally, I had to come to Shane. He’s your guardian, after all. You didn’t want to pay the medical fees. So, we came to him.”

Dickson shamelessly agreed, saying, 11 It’s only fair that the father pays his son’s debts. Even if he isn’t your biological father, he has always said that he treated you like his actual son.

Were we wrong to come looking for him?”

Shane was stunned. “Woody, did you really beat them up?”

“They deserved it!”

If he knew things would turn out like this, he would’ve asked Helen’s henchmen to be more brutal. That way, Trudy wouldn’t be able to come to Shane’s house to scam him.

“We’re a family. We should talk things out. Why did you have to resort to violence?” Shane said with a pained expression.

Trudy said domineeringly, “As if! We’re not his family. He wasted four years of my daughter’s life. My daughter could have been the wife of a wealthy man if not for him. He’s just an irresponsible bum!

“Shane, I’ll tell you the truth. My daughter has already divorced him. They are no longer a family.”

Shane and Mindy were stunned. Shane looked at Woody with a pained expression. “Woody, is that true?”

He thought Woody would return to a happy life after he got out of prison. That was why he thought it was worth it to sacrifice everything for him.

But he was divorced right after he got out of prison. Why was fate so cruel to him?

“It’s true.” Woody nodded. “Might as well. We’re too different. They looked down on me and treated me like a hindrance. I also view them as lowly gnats. I can’t stand the sight of these people.

“Uncle Shane, Aunt Mindy, I’ll be your son from now on. No one can bully you as long as I’m around. I’ll take care of you until your final days.”

Woody made them a promise, and he was the type of man who always kept his word.

He wasn’t a boastful person. He would never make promises casually. But when he made a promise, he would always keep it.

“Do you really think you can make good on your promise? You’re just a freeloader that relies on women. You say you want to take care of them? Such lies. How shameless are you?” Trudy said mockingly.

Woody’s expression changed as he glared at them intensely. “Back then, you said you sold my house to pay Kurt Donnel so he would sign the letter of forgiveness. So, that was all a lie.”
