Chapter 18 by Lorelei Thunder
“Keep helping the needy, and do more charity work. If you do that, I can assure you that you’ll live a long life,” Woody said.
No one present dared to question his statement. Woody had already proven himself with his exceptional medical skills.
Mason quickly replied, “Thanks, Mr. Henderson. I’ll definitely do as you say and become a charitable person. I’ll help out the needy.”
Kevin looked at Dwayne with guilt in his eyes. Dwayne was deeply impressed by Woody. That was how a true doctor should be.
As he started to perform acupuncture, Woody said, “You’ve been unconscious for too long. You also lost too much blood. Your bodily functions are severely impaired.
“You’ll be going into an unconscious state for the next three days. Don’t worry. It’s a crucial part of your recovery. I’ll perform another round of acupuncture on you, and you’ll be completely healed.”
Mason thanked him again. “I’m immensely grateful to you for saving my life, Mr. Henderson. I have another request. I hope you can help me out.”
“What is it?”
Mason looked at Helen. Then, he said, ”
During the time I was in a coma, my family had been without a leader. It will probably be very chaotic. I hope you can take care of my daughter for a while.”
“Sure,” Woody agreed readily.
Mason was overjoyed. “Helen, thank Mr. Henderson now.”
“I’m very thankful for your help, Mr. Henderson.” Helen curtsied slightly toward Woody. As she bent down, her cleavage was exposed. She emanated a sense of unexpected charm.
Helen didn’t understand why Mason made such an arrangement. Woody was indeed a great doctor, but there were things that were beyond the capabilities of a doctor.
Seeing Mason’s serious attitude, Helen didn’t dare to take things lightly. It was like he was entrusting her to Woody because he knew he might end up dead.
She didn’t know that Woody was a man of many skills and that medicine was only one of them.
Mason said somberly, “Remember to ask Mr. Henderson for guidance no matter what issues you may encounter. Always obey his instructions, okay?”
“Understood!” Helen nodded repeatedly.
Mason’s smile faded as he was consumed by fatigue. He quickly closed his eyes and drifted off.
The expensive medical equipment next to him revealed that all was well with him. Helen sighed in relief.
Kevin’s head drooped. He had a complicated expression on his face.
“You can leave now!” Helen said with a disgusted tone. She couldn’t stand the sight of these people anymore.
The bodyguard released them. Dwayne and the others felt remorseful as they sighed repeatedly. They were completely in the wrong this time.
But Kevin didn’t leave immediately. He picked up a pen and paper and wrote his name down in reverse.
“Mr. Henderson, I apologize for what I said. I was too arrogant because of my past achievements. From this moment onward, I’ll abandon all my authority and status. I’ll leave the medical field.”
Kevin kept his head down, but his tone was resolute.
“You don’t need to do that,” Woody replied.
Kevin shook his head. He said with determination, “I’m no longer worthy to be a doctor. I have realized how stubborn and arrogant I have been.
“I’ve been staying in my comfort zone for far too long. I wasn’t willing to accept new methods, and I wasn’t willing to admit that someone could be better than me.
“It would be irresponsible to the patients and their families if I continued to practice medicine. I am truly unworthy!”
Kevin wasn’t a completely hopeless person. At least he realized his own mistakes.
“It’s great that you realize your mistakes and mend your ways. That being said, it wouldn’t be wise if you simply chose to run away from your problems.
“You’re not perfect, but you’re still quite capable in your profession. If you give up now, you’ll only disappoint the people who trust and need you.”
