Chapter 10 by Lorelei Thunder
“I don’t even know him! How could I possibly have contacted him?”
Helen’s eyes widened as she quickly explained to Woody, “Mr. Henderson, please trust me. This has got nothing to do with me!”
Asking for help from two different people for the same matter wasn’t too nice of a thing to do. Since she’d already asked for Woody’s help, naturally, Helen wouldn’t have asked another person to get involved.
That would show that she didn’t trust Woody. Helen would never do something so childish.
“Huh? Then, who is he?” Clement was dumbfounded. “He followed us in when we carried Mason into the ward earlier. I had assumed that you had sent him here, Ms. Cartwright.”
Right then, a group of doctors in white coats came in through the doors. At the forefront was the director of the hospital, Dwayne Maxwell. Behind him followed a group of specialists.
“Ms. Cartwright, please allow me to make some introductions. This is my senior, Dr. Kevin Barker, who’s one of the most knowledgeable people in the whole of Kingsvale in the fields of neurology and toxicology!” Dwayne said.
Helen’s eyes lit up at once, and she exclaimed, “He’s Dr. Barker? The Dr. Barker who was known as the doyen of medicine?”
The elderly man turned around and gave Helen a glance before waving his hand humbly.
“Yes. I’m Kevin Barker, but I’m not all that great. My peers do flatter me so.”
Helen knew his name because when Mason’s condition deteriorated, she had sought out all the best specialists, both in the country and internationally, to treat him. And the first name on the list was Kevin Barker.
Unfortunately, he had been too busy then. No matter how the Cartwright family tried to get his help, their attempts all ended up in vain.
“Consider yourselves lucky. Kevin had just facilitated a technical workshop in Ciasee Province, and as he was passing by Tiusto, he decided to come and visit me,” Dwayne said proudly.
“It just so happened that he saw Mr. Cartwright being admitted while he was here. As an ethical doctor, he couldn’t bear to see patients in bad shape, so he decided to help Mr. Cartwright. He’s doing you a great favor!
“There are many rich and powerful people out there seeking his help and offering a great amount of money for it. But none of them succeeded.”
Helen was excited and anxious as well. She was excited that a professional like Kevin Barker was there of his own accord.
At the same time, she was also anxious because she had already got Woody there. It wouldn’t be appropriate for her to let someone else treat her father.
However, she didn’t wish to let go of such a great chance to find out the cause of her father’s condition and to provide him with proper treatment. After all, this was a rare opportunity.
Clearly, the chances of her father’s successful recovery would be higher if the two great doctors handled his case together.
As Helen was contemplating how to get the both of them to help her father, Kevin shook his head and said, “Ms. Cartwright, please be prepared. Your father’s condition is way more complicated than it seems.
“I am very sure that he has been poisoned, so it is of utmost importance to find out where the source of the poisoning was and to find out what exactly he was poisoned by. Only when we have this information can we prescribe him the right medication.
“Also, with the patient’s current conditions, he should not have been transferred to a hospital so far away. Why did you transfer him from Centralton Hospital, which has better facilities, to Premier Hospital? Have you gotten hold of my schedule and deliberately come here to try your luck?
“If that’s the case, I must reprimand you. As the family of the patient, you are being very irresponsible! I understand your concerns, but what would you do if you didn’t meet me here? The patient would have ended up in a dire condition!
“You cannot be overconfident! Luck will not always be on your side!”
He ended up nagging at Helen for what she’d done.
Helen was quick to explain, “It’s not what you think. I’ve got Dr. Henderson here …”
“Who?” Kevin’s eyes instantly went wide as saucers as he cut Helen off. “You mean the swindler who claims that he can bring the dead back to life?”
