One Mate and a Rejection

Chapter 8

Chapter Eight

The first thing I did this morning was quickly get out of bed, wash my face, and put on some proper cloths.

I was at the hospital by about seven o’clock, hoping this would be a quick visit.

Jasmine saw me in the waiting room,” You coming to see Jared?”

“Yeah,” i answered, stepping around her.

She grabbed my arm,” Its one person at a time.”

And then she stepped around me and headed to his room.

Frustrated, i sat on the slippery hospital chairs, feeling every single second that passed by.

Finally, after about half an hour, a doctor approached me.

“Are you here to visit...” he paused to glance at his clipboard,” Jared?”

“Yes,” I stood up,” is everything okay?”

“Everything’s fine, but it’s past 7. You can go see him.”

“Yes, but Jasmine is with him. Its one person at a time, so I’m waiting for her to come back-”

“It’s not one person at a time. His whole family is in there with him. He’s better now.”

“So I’m allowed to go in?”

“Of course.”

Jasmine had lied to me. I defiantly hated her,” that’s okay. I think I’ll be leaving. But are you sure he’s fine?”

“Better than ever,” the doctor smiled.

I nodded, well aware that I was running late for school,” thank you.”

I walked away, but not before peeking into Jared’s room.

He was lying on his hospital bed, clutching Jasmine’s hand while he talked to his family.

His skin had returned to it’s normal color and it sucked badly knowing it was because of his mate.

I felt relaxed to know that he’s all better and walked away towards the exit.

In my car, I noticed the visible bruises and scratches on my face from the side view mirror.

I sighed, silently cursing Amanda and her witch-like nails.

The rest of the school day went by agonizingly slow and I couldn’t help but notice that Blade wasn’t there.

I wondered just how much trouble he must be in with our pack.

Jared’s father, our alpha will probably meet with him, maybe even kick him out of the territory.

I was shocked at the displeasure that shot through my chest. I couldn’t possibly care about Blade. We were enemies, I should feel disgusted with him.

Especially after what he did to Jared.

Lisa and jack has questioned my bruised face and I hesitated before I lied.

I assured them it was merely an accident. I had been driving and banged my head against the window.

It wasn’t a complete lie because the scratch from when that really did happen was still there.

I was looking forward to being home and just laying on my comfy bed.

After school, but when I peeked through the window and saw Jason and Amanda, I headed the other way.

I reached the forest in a couple of seconds, stripping as I walked.

I leaped into the air, savoring the great feeling of my flesh furring and my senses improving.

I ran within the trees letting my legs be my guide. I sped past trees, and tiny forest creatures.

I caught sight of everything visible with my new eyes. I was introduced to many different odors.

Some as pleasuring as the scent of the pretty roses that grew between the shrubs and some as disgusting as the manure that the animals laid.

I ended up at the cliff, sniffing loudly and calling for my mate, but after a while I realized he wasn’t there. Dropping to the ground, I tried to dispose my disappointment but it was impossible.

I can’t expect him to be there for me whenever I needed, that’s unrealistic.

But than I thought of Jack and Lisa, who were always there for each other.

I began to run again, my rapid paws scraping upon the edge of the surface.

After about fifteen meters, I lost the cliff and found myself deep within the wet trees again.

I ran and ran until I saw a house that I remembered from a while ago.

I had been broken with no one to turn to, and collapsed onto the ground.

Deep within my vision, I had seen a big, blurry wooden house.

I ran towards it at full speed, somehow avoiding making contact with every single tree.

When I reached the house, I wondered what brought me here. Why did I feel pulled in here?

All of the sudden a lucky figure stepped out from the balcony.

I awaited until they stepped out of the shadow and into the rain of sun.

Blade.

I almost laughed to myself.

Whom else could it been!? I should have remembered this house from the party he threw. But I had entered from the front, with no idea of how the back looked like.

He glanced down at me, immediately catching sight of where I stood and just stared.

His golden eyes shun even from a distance and I feared he’s assumed I was a rouge or an intruder.

But somehow i couldn’t look away.

I stared back, wondering where I’ve seen those eyes before.

Blade broke eye contact first when he looked to his side quickly.

Another figure stepped out. Slim and curvy with long blond hair.

She was wearing nothing but a bath robe.

“Oh my goodness!” she screamed, her bright blue eyes wide and staring down at me,” is that a wolf?”

Blades eyes fell upon mines once again and they looked guilty.

I didn’t know why i was feeling so shattered inside but I couldn’t ignore it.

My eyes dug into blades for a moment longer and I realized just how familiar they are.

They stared at me with guilt and regret, just as unexplained as my resurfacing hurt.

I stood up from where I was crouching and ran towards my house, hoping to leave the pain behind.

But it remained with me and it seemed like the harder I pumped my feet, trying to get away from it, the faster it chased me.

It was unexplainable really, why i felt like the remaining pieces of my heart who were beginning to give me the slightest of hope had been stepped on by non other than Blade Russell.

An enemy. The son of a traitor.

The attacker of Jared and the reason he’s in the hospital.

I realized that I should bring my unidentified mate into this.

Shouldn’t I feel guilty for being in love with Jared when I had a mate already.

Shouldn’t I feel guilty for feeling things for Blade that I shouldn’t be able to feel for an enemy!

Ever! Imagine the look on my fathers face as he learns his daughter is a betrayer! Imagine now I’d ruin their reputation!

But I didn’t feel guilty.

In fact, the opposite really. I grew angry as I thought of just how messed up my life is.

I’m in love with a guy who has a mate.

I’m receiving strange feelings for an enemy, and I have a stranger mate who won’t show me his identity.

Back home, I was grateful for Amanda’s and Jason’s departure.

It gave me an hour or so of studying. Mom barged into my room, her face wrinkled with stress.

“There’s a pack meeting tonight with the enemy pack, all the adults have to go, nobody below twenty-one. Will you be alright by yourself?”

“Yup, do you know what the meeting is about?”

“Blade Russell putting Jared in the hospital. It’s obvious.”

I nodded, my stomach flipping when she said blades name,” Is Dad going?”

She shrugged,” I don’t know. I haven’t heard from him.”

With that, she exited the room, leaving behind a trail of misery.

Suddenly, I felt disgusted with myself. I had been so caught up in my own personal problems to notice that my parents might be on the verge of divorce, Jason hates me and I probably caused Amanda some real damage.

I sighed.

I really didn’t know what was wrong with me.

My phone suddenly rung, snapping me out of my pity party.

I picked it up, the screen flashing Lisa’s name.

“Hello?”

“Hey,” she answered,” get ready and meet us downstairs in five minutes.”

“What? For what?” I asked, getting up.

“Just do it. Dress in something warm.” with that she hung up, bearing me no more explanation.

I quickly got up and dressed in some jeans, a hoodie and a sweater on top.

Lisa and jack were waiting outside in a car.

" about time!” yelled Jack as I entered.

Lisa laughed,” we just got here.”

We drove for about ten minutes, singing a long to the radio.

When we pulled up in front of the carnival, I began to jump up and down.

“Yes! I haven’t been here in so long!”

Lisa and jack laughed, watching while bounce up and down.

We exited the car and a shadowy figure caught my eye.

“Who is that?” I asked, creeping closer.

Lisa smirked,” You’ll see.”

The shadow figure neared us, and I recognized him by voice first.

“Hey guys,” said Ben, finally in proper eye view.

“Hey,” I muttered. For some reason i was disappointed. I was hoping it would be someone else.

Ben stood besides me as we entered the carnival, buying out tickets and cruising around to see what rides to play.

“Let’s get on the Veggie knock out!” yelled Lisa, bobbing up and down on her heels.

“Are you kidding? It’s for kids,” complained Jack.

“No, it’s fun,” I said, dragging Lisa with me as we headed towards it,” You and jack get your own car. Me and Lisa are going together.”

“It’s too easy!” yelled Ben.

“fine, losers buys the winners a Carmel apple!”

“Your on!”

Lisa and I entered a car, putting on our seat belts and waiting for the guys to catch up.

The ride began and all of the sudden we were speeding towards massive plastic vegetables.

Me and Lisa knocked out the cucumber but the boys weren’t so lucky.

I laughed out loud when Jack almost fell off and wondered if I should be having so much fun while Jared is hurt.

But than again, Jared and his pretty little girlfriend were probably making out right now, with me at the last of their thoughts.

Yes, I deserve to have fun. Even if it’s for one night.

Lisa served the car to the side, trying to knock out a tomato. We missed that one, causing the boys to laugh.

We sped past them, knocking down some of their vegetables.

Jack stood up and hollered,” That’s not fair!”

Lisa shrugged and blew kiss’s at him.

By the end of the ride, we had managed to knock down thirty-three vegetables, beating the boys by eight.

Me and Lisa high-fived each other,” You get to buy was caramel apples!”

The boys did buy us caramel apples but they didn’t seem to mind it.

Jack and Lisa sat besides each other, kissing every few minutes, causing me to look down every time.

Ben cleared his throat as they were at it,” So, it’s really nice out.”

I nodded,” I love this carnival.”

“I’ve only ever been here once.”

I laughed,” I used to come every fall with my parents.”

“Where are they?”

“at the pack meeting. No kids aloud. Do you know what gonna happen?”

Ben suddenly looked uncomfortable,” uhh, no. I don’t.”

Confused by his strange behavior, I decided to let it go and enjoy a night out with my friends.

Lisa and jack finished up and after riding almost every ride there is, and winning three big teddy bears, we decided to head home.
