One Amazing Trip To Garzon

Chapter 7: Going Back

Tyler didn’t want to hear what Carlyle’s bad news happened to be. So many thoughts were racing through his mind about what Carlyle was about to say. The one that concerned him the most of all was that maybe Carlyle knew his brother wasn’t going to live and he wouldn’t have been able to tell Tyler until he was already on the plane, afraid that he would just stand there motionless in the middle of the room, and he too would die.

“I don’t know how to tell you this, but first off how old did you say you were?” asked Carlyle.

“I am twelve years old and Jason is fifteen, answered Tyler as he wondered what his age had to do with anything.

“Well, let me just say it in the best way possible, you are probably going to be Jason’s age when we get you back home.”

“It is going to take us three years to get back? demanded Tyler. “So you are telling me that I will have to spend that many days stuck on this stupid spaceship?!”

“Yes, it is going to take about three years in Earth days to make it back to your home. Earth is really far away from the planet Garzon. Although this spaceship can travel extremely fast, the distance between the planets is far too great to be able to reach your planet any faster,” stated Carlyle.

“So why did you not let us know about this when we were still back on your planet? We could have maybe thought of a quicker way to get home than three years.”

“I knew that if I had told you guys back there then you would have said something similar to what you had just said. I knew this was the only way for you guys to be able to get back home and you can’t tell me that you don’t want to go back there, even if it does take us a couple of years,” mentioned Carlyle.

Tyler was beginning to realize that they would have tried to find a different way home because three years just seemed like such a long time. At the moment though he wasn’t worried about when he would get home he was worried if his brother would be okay. He was glad that Carlyle’s bad news wasn’t about his brother, so at least there was some hope for him. He really didn’t feel like being on this spaceship for three years with a dead body that belonged to his brother.

Another thought had just gone past his mind. Tyler was now thinking about his parents and what would happen to them. Would they still be living there at the house they are now, or would they have moved away giving up hope that they would return? At the moment he wasn’t sure if it would just be him returning or him and Jason.

“Hey, I heard somewhere that you travel through space so fast that if you were to return to where you live, you would still be young, but everyone else would be a lot older or dead. Is there any truth to that?” asked Tyler.

“No, we aren’t traveling at those type of speeds, while we are going extremely fast through space, we aren’t going that quickly. To be completely honest with you I am not even really sure that there is any truth to that or not. Until I hear a story of that happening to somebody, I won’t believe that it can happen. When you get home your parents will be three years older than they were just like you will be,” answered Carlyle.

It had been about thirty minutes since Jason had been hit by the Lightning gun and both of them were really starting to worry about him.

“If he is going to be okay, how long should it take Jason to get up?” asked Tyler.

“Well we determined that he was hit by the gun eight times, so it would normally take about a half hour or maybe just a little bit longer than that.”

“It has already been a little longer than a half hour,” answered Tyler.

“I have never seen anyone from another planet get hit so I am not quite sure how long it should take him to recover. Also, he has a different body type than anyone on the planet Garzon being smaller than everyone else so that should make a little bit of a difference.”

Tyler was now beginning to think that if it took a taller and larger person only thirty minutes to get up after being hit that many times, he was worried that a smaller person might not be able to survive that many shots, but he was just hoping for the best now.

Time was passing by what seemed like an alarming rate as they were hoping for Jason to wake up. Time felt like it was going as fast as they were flying on the plane as another twenty minutes had gone by. So that meant it had now been fifty minutes since he had been shot and there was still no sign of any movement from him.

Tyler couldn’t believe what was happening to Jason as he just sat solemnly with his hands over his head staring at the ground. Neither Carlyle nor Tyler said a word to each other as time was passing by.

Another ten minutes passed by making the time now an hour since the shootings. In these ten minutes neither Carlyle nor Tyler had said one word to each other just like they hadn’t the previous twenty. Things were starting to really look grim. Finally after not talking for such a long time there was a voice. It was Carlyles’ voice.

“I am really beginning to worry now. It has been over an hour since he was shot. I remember that the records for someone getting up after being shot is at around one hour even. It has been longer than that for him. I hate to say it or even think it really, but I just don’t know.”

That was all that Carlyle was able to muster up and say.

Tyler was now looking out the window to outer space. Although they were going at very high speeds, since space was so vast it seemed as they were going in slow motion. The scene was just like it would be in any movie that you would see about space except for him it was real. He could see the stars up close and could even see a few planets that they passed. He didn’t care to look at the planets or the stars right now though. It looked like it was going to be a lonely three year trip so he would have all the time in the world to look at the view later as he continued to put his hands over his head.

Another five minutes had passed when Carlyle heard a cough.

“Are you okay back there Tyler, you don’t sound too good?”

“That isn’t me coughing, its Jason!”

Carlyle turned around to look and couldn’t believe his eyes. Jason was just starting to be able to move and he was alive!

“Congratulations, you officially own a record now,” said Carlyle who had a smile on his face so happy to see him okay.

“What, where are we?” asked Jason.

“We are on our way home,” said Tyler who was so glad to see his brother alive. “It is a good thing you lived because I don’t know if we would have been able to handle you not coming along.”

“Well technically I would have been along for the ride with you guys, I just might not have been very talkative,” said Jason who was beginning to laugh a little bit as he cracked a smile.

“That’s real funny, it’s good to have you back bro,” said Tyler.

“So about that whole record thing you were talking about, I seriously broke a record, for what?”

“No one had ever woken up after being out for as long as you had been, we were so worried about you,” answered Carlyle.

“That is kind of cool, I can now say I hold a records on a different planet, maybe they will put it in the Guinness Record books,” joked Jason. So, how much longer until we make it home? I can’t wait to eat some of mom’s good food, I am starving.”

“I am really sorry to tell you this new, but we aren’t going to make it home for another three years,” said Tyler.

“Three years? Three years? You have got to be kidding me, you mean we are going to be stuck on this thing for that long, how are we even going to survive?” asked an upset Jason. “We aren’t going to make it home because there is nothing to eat is there?”

Jason was now beginning to think about what Tyler was thinking earlier. He was wondering if his parents would be there or not, or if they would have given up hope on them after all this time.

“We will be able to survive because of a shot of food that we will take,” answered Carlyle.

“A shot, what in the world are you talking about? I don’t want to take any shots,” said an upset Tyler.

“It isn’t like a shot that you are thinking of, it is a little piece of food about the size of a piece of gum, you take it once a day and it will give you enough nutrition and energy for the entire day. The people of Garzon created if for trips just like this and it works amazingly. There are also different flavors so you aren’t eating the same thing every day. Here, I will show you guys a piece of the A-D-N-E.”

“What does that stand for?” asked Tyler.

“It stands for an all day nutritional energy pill,” said Carlyle.

Carlyle put the plane on autopilot for a little while and opened up a huge container in the back of the plane that was filled with little pieces of what looked like gum. There had to be over ten thousand pieces, which would be plenty enough for all of them over the three years. There were also many different flavors including green apple, orange, raspberry, strawberry, lemonade flavor and much more. There were also some pieces that said they tasted like pizza, steak, or even a cheeseburger.

“Go ahead and grab a piece,” said Carlyle.

Tyler grabbed a piece labeled cheeseburger flavor, and Jason grabbed a pizza flavored one.

“Wow, these are really good,” exclaimed Jason. “That tasted exactly like a piece of cheese pizza. These things really do work.”

Both of them were completely full five minutes after eating the piece and felt that they couldn’t eat another piece today even if they wanted to.

“So is there anything to do on this ship to keep us from going insane?” asked Jason.

“There are plenty of movies available for you guys to watch, I could probably program them later to English so you would be able to understand them,” answered Carlyle. “Also there are a few books to read and some board games that you can play.”

“No video games though?” asked Jason.

“Sorry, no video games, but the board games that are made in Garzon are pretty cool, you guys should enjoy them. They always have similar things on each spaceship to keep the people riding on them from getting too bored,” said Carlyle.

It was now starting to get pretty late as all three of them were becoming quite tired.

“ What time is it right now anyways?” asked Jason.

“Well, I have no idea what time it is in your time and our clock system is a little bit different than yours so it’s hard to tell, sorry,” answered Carlyle.

“It has probably been ten hours or so since we left our house so I would imagine it is like two or three in the morning then,” said Tyler. “No wonder I am so tired, I can’t remember the last time that I stayed up quite this late, I’ll be heading to bed now.”

The seats on the spaceship looked exactly like the seats that you would see on an airplane but they had something special about them. There was a small button on the back of the middle seat in each row and it would lay down all three seats turning it into a nice bed.

“You know what, I think that I am going to get some rest as well,” said Carlyle. “I will just turn the spaceship into auto-pilot and call it a day.”

“I was just wondering something,” said Jason. “If you can turn this spaceship or plane, or whatever it is called into auto-pilot, then why do you have to control it at all?”

“When the spaceship is in auto-pilot, it will go twice as slow as when I have the controls in my hands. Also, every once in awhile it might take off in the wrong direction out of nowhere and that would really slow down our time of you guys making it back home. Plus, there isn’t a whole lot to do here so I really enjoy flying it.”

“Do you think that you could let me fly it someday?” asked Jason.

“I don’t see why not,” said Carlyle. “There will be plenty of time for me to teach the both of you to fly this thing. It won’t take too long before you guys get the hang of it.”

“Hey, I just came up with a great idea,” said Jason. “Once Tyler and I get used to driving the plane then we could switch off every few hours while the other two people sleep so that it would cut down on time and we could get home a lot faster.”

“That is a pretty good idea and it would probably cut down the time of getting you guy’s home from three years to about two to two and a half years. How about we all get some sleep right now and we will discuss those arrangements tomorrow.”

“That sounds good to me,” said Jason.

So the three of them each made their own bed and were ready to call it a night.

“Goodnight,” said Carlyle.

“Goodnight,” Jason and Tyler repeated back.

Tyler and Jason couldn’t believe how comfortable the seats had turned into. They were going to be on this spaceship for a long time so at least they would be comfortable while they were sleeping. In a way they were wishing that when they woke up the next morning they would be in their own room back home but they knew that would just be a dream and they would have a lot of nights left before they woke up at their house.
