One Amazing Trip To Garzon

Chapter 1: Into The Woods

The loud alarm of music playing woke the kids up at the scheduled time of nine the next morning. The sound on the alarm must have been turned up all the way because it made both of them jump out of bed as if they were on fire. Tyler reached up as soon as he could to turn off the annoying sound.

“Why did you have the alarm turned up all the way, that was so loud?” yelled Jason as he continued to hold his hands to his ears as if the noise was still going on.

“My bad, I must of accidentally hit the volume knob when I set the alarm last night,” said Tyler as he had to slow his breaths down as he felt like he was about to have a heart attack.

“What is all that noise in their?” asked Mr. Greenwhite as he came running into their room.

“I mistakenly turned the volume up all the way when I went to set the alarm last night,” said Tyler.

“Oh well make sure you guys get ready for today, it looks like it is going to be another nice day outside,” said Tim. I would like to leave the house by at least 10:00 because I have to show a house to somebody today at 2:30, and it is a pretty far drive from our house. I am really looking forward to going fishing with you guys today.”

As the boys were also looking forward to the day ahead of them they sat down and ate some cereal. While Tyler had orange juice for breakfast, Jason had his usual pop.

“Why are you drinking pop for breakfast?” asked Tyler.

“You know pop is pretty much the only thing that I ever drink,” answered Jason who was drinking it as if it was his first drink in days.

They both enjoyed cereal quite a bit. Some days they wouldn’t just eat it for breakfast they would eat it at any time of the day for a snack. In fact, they planned on bringing some Frosted Cheerios with them on the fishing trip for a little snack for whenever they got hungry. The kids finished eating, got all of their fishing equipment, and started to head outside with their father.

It was right around ten when they all headed outside for the trip. As soon as they took a step outside something had already felt different than it had the previous day. Today it was preparing to be a lot hotter than it was yesterday as they guessed that it had to already be at least eighty five degrees outside and it was still early in the morning, so who knew just how hot it was going to be by mid-afternoon.

“It sure is a lot hotter outside today than it was yesterday, “said Jason as he looked up at the sun beating down on the three of them.

“You sure aren’t kidding,” said Tim. “I hope that we are able to catch a lot of fish today, it has been a while since we have had the chance to go fishing. I feel kind of bad not taking you guys fishing more, growing up it was one of my favorite things to do and I was pretty good at it also. Did I ever tell you guys about the time when I caught forty fish in one day?”

In fact they had heard the story a couple of times before but they listened to their dad as he stated he had caught forty fish that day with one of the fish weighing at least thirty pounds and this was when he was just eleven years old. Both of the boys thought that their dad had been exaggerating just a little bit with his story. They had caught fish many times before and the biggest they had ever caught was only a couple of pounds.

Their dog Jessie came up and followed the men as they were on their way to the creek. She always liked to follow them to where they went and run around in the woods. A lot of times she would enjoy chasing other animals that lurked in the woods. It wasn’t too far of a walk to the creek, as it took them only a few minutes to get to the place. The place was very nice looking. It had, what looked to be somewhat fresh water running, it was a great location in the woods, and the colors of the woods made the place look very vibrant.

The men found the best place to sit down and fish from which were on some large rocks that were surprisingly soft and kind of comfortable. The guys fished for over an hour and Jessie continuously chased different animals, whether it was squirrels or rabbits all over the place. Some more time passed by and it was almost noon and nobody had caught anything yet. It looked like it was going to be a slow day.

A few minutes later Jason felt something on his line. “Hey, I think I’ve got something,” he said very excitedly. “It feels pretty heavy I’m not sure if I can pull it in by myself.”

He struggled to pull it up as the fish squirmed around trying to get away from the hook and just before Tim had come over to help Jason with the line he was finally able to do so himself. It was a pretty big fish, probably the largest that he had ever caught in his life. Jason wasn’t very good when it came to identifying fish so he asked them to take a look and find out what kind of fish it was.

“It looks like a bass to me,” said Tyler. “It has to be a good eight or nine pounds, or maybe more.”

Time went on and it was now around 1:00. Mr. Greenwhite had ended up catching two fish which for him was a disappointing day when it came to catching fish. Sometimes Tim would be able to catch ten to fifteen fish on a good day. Jason caught another two to get his total up to three, and Tyler really got on a roll at the end as he ended up catching five fish. They didn’t keep any of the fish they just tossed them back into the water after they had caught them. They all enjoyed fishing but never did end up keeping any of the fish that they caught. Now that it was afternoon it was significantly hotter. The temperature had to be a good ninety degrees at least. It would have felt even hotter if they weren’t shaded by all of the trees.

“Well, I think it’s about time for me to start heading back inside and getting ready to show that house here in a little while,” said Mr. Greenwhite. “ I’ve got to go inside and get cleaned up, as his shirt was soaked from the hot weather. You guys are more than welcome to continue fishing if you would like to.”

“Yeah, I think that we may stay down here for just a little bit longer,” responded Jason.

Tyler on the other hand was kind of ready to head back inside and get something to eat but if Jason wanted to stay out here, than that meant he was probably going to end up staying outside as well. Another reason he wanted to head in was all of the bugs and spiders that kept finding their way onto him. Once he looked down and saw three spiders crawling up his legs, so he hit them off as fast as he could. He always had a fear of spiders so to see so many crawling up his leg was a horrible feeling and made him very nervous and almost sick to his stomach.

Just as soon as Tim started to walk towards the house Jason stood up to stretch and he slipped on the rock he had been sitting on that had gotten a little bit slippery and he fell right into the pond. Both Tyler and Tim could only laugh as they watched him get soaked and punch the water with his hand as he was upset he had been so clumsy and had gotten his clothes soaked.

“Alright, well you guys have a good time and good luck on catching some more, when I get back home I would like to know how many more fish you caught, called Tim. “It will probably be around seven by the time I get home so make sure that you guys go inside and cleaned up by that time because we are all going out to eat at a nice restaurant tonight. Also try to stay out of the water for the rest of the day Jason.”

“Okay, see you later dad, good luck showing the house” the boys said together.

As Mr. Greenwhite started to head out of the woods and into their backyard their dog Jessie followed behind him and soon both Tim and Jessie were out of sight.

The kids fished for a couple more minutes and were trying to figure out why they were going to a nice restaurant. Usually they only went somewhere nice like that when it was a special occasion, mostly because it was about a forty minute drive to the nearest restaurant.

“I wonder why we are going out to eat tonight?” asked a confused Tyler.

“I’m not really sure,” Jason shot back. As he continued to think what was so special about today, it hit him and he remembered just what happened to be so special about it. “I just remembered what today is. It’s our father’s birthday and we forgot. I feel horrible.”

“Your right, I can’t believe we forgot his birthday, he is probably so disappointed with us,” said Tyler. “I guess since it is summer and we haven’t kept track of the days that we just forgot what day it was. We should go inside and tell him happy birthday before he gets going so he won’t be as mad before he heads off. How could we have forgotten?”

As soon as the kids started to get up and head back to the house they could see a car driving down the street. Their dad was driving off in the distance and both of them felt upset for not remembering his birthday.

“We have got to make sure to tell him as soon as he gets home,” said Tyler.

“Yeah,” Jason responded back.

In fact their dad wasn’t mad at all that they couldn’t remember his birthday. He was just glad to have been able to spend time with them and was especially glad to go fishing since that was one of his favorite activities. He had fished for almost his whole life at that same creek. The only thing he didn’t look forward to about today was having to go and show a house.

The kids just sat on the rocks looking at the creek for a few minutes without saying a word. They had to admit that they were really looking forward to going into town because it had been almost a week since they had left their house. They always had fun staying home and playing sports but every now and then it was a nice relief to go somewhere and get away. Most of the people at their school lived in the city while they were one of the few who lived so far away, that’s why it was nice to go in town and see some of their friends at one of the local stores or at the restaurant. This time it might be a little awkward driving with their dad after they had forgotten what day it was.

Jason had put all of his fishing equipment by his side on the ground and was now watching Tyler as he still tried to catch some more.

“Are you about done fishing for the day because now it is starting to get a little bit boring?” asked Jason.

“Yeah, I am done now,” said Tyler. “Do you want to go and explore the woods for a little bit? I mean we have lived here for almost our whole lives and sometimes it seems as if we haven’t even seen all of our backyard.”

“I am pretty sure that we have seen all of the woods over all the times we have been back here, there is just so much that it doesn’t seem like it, Jason chimed in. There isn’t really anything else to do until dad gets back home besides maybe play some basketball but my arm kind of hurts from yesterday so we can go for a walk in the woods. Let me get a drink real quick though, because I am really thirsty.”

“Bring me out a drink when you go inside to get one. Go ahead and get me a coke or some water because I am thirsty as well,” Tyler said. “Also, if we have any candy bars inside the house grab me one.”

“Okay, I will be back out in a couple of minutes or so,” he shot back. Jason walked out of the woods and headed in to the house to grab two drinks and some candy bars.

Tyler just stood up on the large rock that he had previously been sitting on and he now tried to skip smaller sized rocks across the pond to pass the time. He had a couple that he threw that skipped across the creek a pretty good distance and skimmed off the water a couple times before settling underneath the creek. As Tyler continued to wait for his brother to get back he stood up and started to walk around for a minute. He climbed up some rocks and looked around in the woods for a moment and there was something that had caught his eye. It seemed to be a huge tunnel that he could barely see in the distance. There didn’t seem to be anything special about it, but for some reason it interested him because he had never seen it before. It was over in the woods where he had never been and he was curious to see where it would lead to. He figured it would just lead to more woods, but since they were going on a hike anyway he thought he should tell Jason he wanted to go through the tunnel to see where it would go. From where he was sitting he couldn’t see how long it was and he decided that he would wait for Jason to get back before going through.

A few minutes later Jason returned with a couple of canned sodas in his hands.

“Did you bring any candy bars out with you?” asked Tyler.

“Yeah they are right here,” said Jason as he reached into his pocket and took out two Snickers bars and handed one of them to Tyler.

“I was so thirsty,” Tyler repeated as he finished his drink in what was probably thirty seconds or so. “Hey Jason, do you see that tunnel over there in the distance?”

“Yeah, I see it,” Jason replied, as he too finished his drink and candy bar quickly.

“Well I was wondering if you wanted to go through it to see where it leads. We are going on a hike today anyways so we might as well check it out,” Tyler answered back.

“We might as well, there isn’t anywhere else to go and on top of everything I don’t think that we have ever been through it. I can’t believe that we have lived here for so long and never noticed it. I mean look at it, there is a huge tunnel over there and we haven’t seen it, that’s kind of strange. I guess you can only see it if you stand up on these rocks though,” said Jason as he climbed onto some more rocks to get a better view of it.

The two boys started off on their way towards the tunnel. To reach the tunnel they were going to have to cross the creek. To do so, they had to jump on rock after rock as they tried to avoid falling into the creek. After already seeing his brother fall in Tyler was very skeptical about walking across because the water was deeper here than it was when Jason fell in. If they did happen to fall in, the creek was probably about nine feet deep where they were. Nine feet may not seem all that deep but for Tyler who wasn’t a great swimmer it was plenty enough to scare him. Both of them got across the creek relatively easily, although the rocks were pretty slippery because they were wet at the tops of them. As they had gone across they had seen plenty of butterflies flying around along with all kinds of little bugs and other insects moving around. Now they had to climb up a small hill that was all mud and then they would be on level ground.

“I really don’t want to get my shoes all muddy going up this hill,” said Jason. Maybe we should just go back across the creek and go hiking somewhere else that we have already been and is less muddy. The only thing that tunnel is going to lead to is just more woods like we have already seen before. I should probably go back inside and get some older shoes at least.”

“No, we have already made it across the creek. Let’s just go ahead with this and see where it goes. I don’t really feel like waiting any longer,” Tyler shot back as he looked up at the hill full of mud.

Tyler had surprised himself telling Jason where he wanted to go because normally wherever Jason would want to go Tyler would follow him. This time he was being the leader and he quite enjoyed it.

Tyler made it up the hill onto level ground easily but as Jason tried to make it up he wasn’t as lucky. His shoes were old and worn so they didn’t have very good traction on them and it was making it slippery as he went up. As he struggled to make it up the hill, he slipped.

“I can’t believe it, first I fall into the creek and now I fall again and my shirt is completely covered in mud,” said an angry Jason.

Tyler looked down and saw that Jason had slipped in the mud and noticed that his pants and shirt were covered.

“Hey don’t worry, at least you made it up this time,” said Tyler as he watched a frustrated Jason make it up the hill the second time without any problems.

“This better be worth me getting my clothes all dirty,” said a muddy and irate Jason.

The kids walked a little bit more until they had finally reached the tunnel. When they got to it, they stopped to look inside it. It was filled with dirt and also had a strange smell to it.

“I don’t think I want to go through this tunnel, I mean look in it, it is full of who knows what,” said Jason, who seemed to be very hesitant to take a step inside of it.

Now as they stepped near the tunnel they could see what it looked like and exactly just what was inside of it. It was circular shaped, and was probably anywhere form fifteen to twenty feet high. As they looked down the tunnel they realized it was probably about one hundred and fifty feet in length, or half of a football field. Alongside the walls were a ton of spider webs and in the middle it was a lot worse, worse than either one of them wanted to imagine. There was muddy water all in the middle of the tunnel that was probably a foot deep so they wouldn’t want to walk across that part. The muddy water didn’t really bother them at all. The part that frightened them more than anything was what they could see crawling around the water and onto the sides, SNAKES. There had to be at least twenty snakes crawling across the tunnel and now the kids weren’t too thrilled about going across the tunnel at all. Getting through the tunnel was going to be a nightmare.

“Okay, enough is enough, there is no way in hell I am walking across that tunnel with all of those snakes and spiders in there. You know how much I hate both of those things!” said a frightened Jason. “On top of everything else look what you see at the end of tunnel, the only thing that I see is more woods just like we have all over the place. We can just as easily go hiking somewhere else in our backyard without having to deal with snakes and spiders!”

For some reason Tyler was determined to make it across the tunnel now more than ever. He saw the snakes and spiders as a challenge and he wanted to make it all the way across and complete the challenge. He was less afraid of snakes than his brother Jason, but he still was afraid of them. He seemed to be more bothered by the hanging cobwebs and the spiders hanging down from them more than he was of the snakes, although he wasn’t the biggest fan of those either. He had already impressed his brother yesterday by beating him in basketball and now he wanted to show him he could do something that Jason was so scared of.

“I know that neither one of us likes what is inside of the tunnel, but I think we should go through it to prove to ourselves that we can do something like this, it will be kind of fun,” said an enthusiastic Tyler.

“This isn’t really my idea of fun and you can count me out of it,” Jason snapped back. “To be completely honest if this is what is involved then I don’t care to prove anything to myself today. In fact the only thing I want to prove today is that I will be able to see tomorrow, so I guess I’ll see you later.”

“Okay, you can stay here and watch me or you can go home and stay inside all day if you want. When I get back home remind me to laugh at you for chickening out. I don’t care what you say because I am going to make it across the tunnel,” Tyler answered back.

Tyler took a couple of steps into the tunnel as nervous as he had ever been in his life. When he looked back he saw Jason behind him starting to head into the tunnel. There was no way that Jason was going to let his brother walk across a tunnel conquering his fears while he just simply observed. They had to walk a little ways up on the tunnel, kind of at an angle to avoid snakes and the muddy water. Both of them knew that going across the tunnel at this angle was very dangerous because one wrong step and they would have snakes crawling all over them. As they walked across they continually had to wipe spider webs out of their face which was something neither one of them enjoyed. They had made it about halfway across the tunnel when one of the snakes started to come right at Tyler.

“I don’t know what to do, it’s coming right at me,” said a very frightened Tyler.

“I think that there is only one thing to do and that is to, RUN!” screamed a very scared Jason. “Let’s get out of here as fast as we can!”

Since they were running at an angle it was extremely hard for them to keep their balance. Tyler was ahead of Jason so now that snake that seemingly was headed towards Tyler was now in front of Jason. Jason didn’t stop, as he stepped on the snake and squashed it. Jason was now closing his eyes as he didn’t want to see what was ahead of him wishing that this was all just a dream or even a nightmare at that. They were now brushing spider webs and spiders out of their way as fast as they could while trying to avoid the snakes. While they were near the end of the tunnel, Tyler looked down and saw a snake trying to crawl up his leg! He panicked and kicked frantically trying to get it off. As he was doing so, he lost his balance and now he was the one who fell in the muddy water! While Tyler had fallen, Jason opened his eyes back up and he completely jumped over his brother and ran as fast as he could to get out of the snake infested tunnel. He turned around and he saw Tyler starting to get up. Tyler now ran quickly out into the woods as far away from the tunnel as he could.

“Phew, it seems like we were in there forever,” said an out of breath and frightened Jason. “I can’t believe you fell down back there that had to be pretty scary falling into that muddy water with all of those snakes. I know I would have been freaked out, but hey we actually did it though. We defeated some fears in that tunnel.”

“Yeah, it sure wasn’t too fun though,” said Tyler as he looked down at his clothes that were now just as dirty as his brothers’ were. “Our parents are going to kill us for our clothes being this muddy and dad is really going to be disappointed in us now, first for forgetting his birthday and now we look like a dirty mess. They aren’t going to want us to go inside looking like this. I am just glad to make it out of there.”

“I know, but there is nothing that we can do about our clothes being dirty now though,” replied Jason.

As they stood there with their hands on their knees completely out of breath and exhausted they looked in amazement just how dirty their clothes were. Both of them didn’t feel like moving as the weight of the mud and water weighed them down to the ground. Jason finally caught his breath, stepped up, and saw something unimaginable out of the corner of his eye.

“Oh my gosh, do you see what I see?” as Jason pointed to the thing he was looking at.

Tyler turned around to see what his brother had just seen and he stood there in awe. They were now looking at what appeared to be where a plane had crashed. There were parts all over the woods that looked to have come from an airplane.

Neither one of them could believe what they were staring at. They saw what appeared to look like a cockpit scattered all through the woods while a lot of the pieces of the plane seemed to actually be buried into the ground.

“This is completely unreal!” said Tyler. “The thing that is really weird about all of this is, I wonder why we are the first to find out about it. You think that it would have been on the news or that, he paused as he really took in what was about to come out of his mouth, people would be looking for lost ones who might have been killed in the accident. There is no way that we could be the first people to find out about it.”

“Your right, I don’t think that anyone knows about it so this crash might have happened last night or something. I think we should look for someone. Who knows, maybe we could even save somebody’s life, let’s hurry up and look around,” said a horrified Jason.

They looked all throughout the woods looking for any indication that somebody was there but they couldn’t find one single person. It seemed as if the plane was quite larger than a normal plane and that most of it had to have been buried. It looked like there were more areas and rooms on this plane but they were either blocked off or scattered on the ground in tiny pieces. There was, however, a small opening in the place where passengers would normally sit.

“Is anyone in here?” asked Jason as he nervously looked around the torn up seats looking for someone.

There were only four seats on the plane that he could see and he wondered why there weren’t that many. Neither one of the kids knew a whole lot about planes since they had never been on one in their life but they figured that it must have been a large plane that for some reason was meant to carry only a few passengers. The weird part that puzzled them was why there wasn’t any indication that someone had been occupying one of the seats. Around the cockpit there was no sign that somebody had crashed, nothing.

“This just doesn’t seem right, I mean how can it be that a plane crashed and there are no signs that someone was ever on it?” asked a confused Tyler who was shaken up by the thought of this.

“I am not sure at all, maybe we should go back inside and tell mom about this and hopefully she will be able to help us out a little bit, or she can contact someone to help straighten all of this out,” answered Jason.

The two of them started to head back towards the house when they noticed something that looked like some kind of light just appearing on the ground on the other side of the plane. They walked around the wreckage and they got a much clearer view of it.

“Whoa!” that was the only word that managed to come out of either one of their mouths.

“What in the word is it?” asked a startled Tyler.

“I have no idea, answered Jason. I am not really sure I want to find out either.”

What they had been amazed by seemed to be some kind of portal. It was a big blue glowing light about the size of a doorway and was only as wide as a normal sized door. They walked around the other side of it and saw that it was very thin and were amazed by what it really was. It was even skinnier than a screen door.

“I am kind of wanting to run through it, I’m not quite sure what it is, but it doesn’t seem harmful,” said Tyler.

“I don’t think that is such a good idea, we have no clue what kind of secret magic that it might hold,” replied Jason.

“You don’t really believe in magic do you Jason? It’s just something weird looking that can be explained but I highly doubt it has magical powers. It was probably made just like a rainbow is, instead of different colors and in the sky, it is blue and on the ground.”

“You mean to tell me that you are looking at this crazy thing and don’t believe it has magical powers? Are you even looking at the same thing as me? I am pretty sure that no one has seen something like this, have you really heard of anything like it, we should just head back inside and stay as far away from it as we can,” demanded Jason.

As soon as those words were out of his mouth it was too late. Tyler had already been walking towards it as if he had been mesmerized by the thought of going through. When he got within a few feet from the portal there was nothing that he could do. It was like he was being dragged into the middle of it and there was no escape. He tried to turn around and run but it was no use, he was heading toward the “doorway” of the portal. Jason tried his hardest to reach Tyler and pull him out, but as soon as he could reach his brother the exact same thing happened to him and quickly he was being pulled towards the center of it with no escape. They tried getting away but the powers of the portal were too strong and wouldn’t let them. Both of them felt that this had to be the end of their lives. They were now dragged into the middle and just like a doorway the portal seemed to open and swallow them. It quickly felt as if they were falling very fast. Traveling this fast could only lead to bad things. It felt as if they were nothing, falling so fast in what appeared to be total darkness that neither one could feel anything. They looked around as they were falling but all they could see was darkness. Both of their hearts were beating quickly now, their palms were sweaty, their knees were weak not being able to anticipate what was about to happen next. They were falling so fast now that they knew that when they hit something, it had to be the end of their lives.
