On the Sly : The Grange Complex Book 2

On the Sly: Chapter 29

Tobias

I slid my fingers over her magnificent heart-shaped arse. Her skin was soft and perfect. My heart hammered loudly, as the blood rushed through my veins pounding a beat in my eardrums. She belonged to me and I wasn’t going to fucking share her, especially not with scum like Lurkin. I smelled her arousal and loved how wet she was for me, that she wanted me to touch her clit, to fill her up with my stiff cock.

“Oh, Tobias, please touch me,” she purred. I didn’t want to pleasure her, I wanted to punish her for thinking about that arsehole, but I didn’t think that I could hold on any longer. I owned her pleasure, her sex, and tried to fight those unfamiliar emotions of love that rocked through me.

I bent down on my knees and breathed out over her clit. Her whole body shuddered and I smiled to myself. I stood up and pressed my body over to hers, kissing her neck, nibbling small bites on the back of her neck. I bet her cold nipples were aching against that hard metal door, eager to be teased by my mouth. Her skin smelled divine, like fresh rain in the summer mixed with her distinct vanilla perfume.

Fuck, what’s gotten into me? I shouldn’t be feeling like this, so euphoric and high on my desire. This was just sex and I couldn’t let myself fall for her. She probably didn’t even feel the same way, and I knew that I couldn’t stay in Edinburgh.

“Keep your hands on the wall. I’m planning to fuck your wet pussy hard, but remember this is for me, not you.” I moaned and then proceeded to drop my trousers.

My dick twitched in response. I was so hard that I had trouble keeping calm. This wasn’t my first rodeo, but I had to keep taking steady breaths to calm myself. I needed to kill off the feelings that had been growing for her with each passionate moment between us. She was my healer, my calm in the storm, my safe haven, and even though it was the sex that brought us together, even when I wanted to lose control and fuck her, it was with love.

I grabbed my cock and started teasing her, rubbing it against her entrance, sliding up over her sensitive clit. I was ready to thrust myself inside her, but after a moment I went down on my knees, wanting to tease her for a bit longer. I had no idea when I would fuck her again, if ever, and I wanted to keep that memory for myself, to reflect on in the future.

I flicked my tongue over her wet pussy, and she cried out. This wasn’t how this whole thing was supposed pan out. Her pleasure was mine and only mine.

“Angel, be quiet; otherwise, I will leave you here stranded.”

“Tobias. I need to have you inside me.”

“Your wish is my command,” I growled, quickly tearing the condom and put it on, lifting myself up and thrusting my cock inside her. She felt unbelievable. I gripped her hips and started thrusting deep and hard, panting as I was just about to explode. I dug my nails into her hips, pounding into her hard, and she kept moaning.

“Oh, Tobias, this is—”

“Be quiet. Remember this when you think about fucking another man,” I said, angry that she was still considering seducing Lurkin. She felt so good, and my cock responded in appreciation, fucking her faster. I leaned back and watched as my dick entered her, seeing us joined together as one. Her arse pushing back against me, that perfect untainted arse. I slapped it hard, hearing her beg me for more. I was riding her sweet pussy, making her feel things that other men would never give her. Sweat broke over the back of my neck, but I didn’t stop until I was coming, arching my head backwards. She felt amazing hanging there, panting for me.

I wiped the sweat away and pulled out, after heat slammed through me, easing off the pressure that I had felt all day. I stood back and watched as she slumped forward, head down against the door.

“Good girl. Every time you think about someone other than me and get aroused, I will know, because I’m under your skin, baby,” I told her, placing a kiss on her head and fixing her dress.

I restarted the elevator and we finally began to move. Ellie was leaning against the side of the lift, eyes closed and brows drawn; she was flushed, taking long pulls of air. This was a test and it looked like I didn’t pass because I still wanted more from her than just fucking. I wanted to love her. I didn’t have much time to think about that because, as soon as the door opened up, we were greeted by the porter from downstairs and Claire, who didn’t look happy.

“Is everything all right, Mr. McCune?” he asked, looking from me to Ellie. Claire shook her head, hiding a smile. Yeah, yeah, she was intelligent enough to see that I was a needy bastard and I crashed the lift in order to fuck Ellie.

“Yes, I think it got stuck. I wouldn’t bother calling an engineer. It was just a glitch, right, Miss Frasier?”

“Yes, it was a glitch.”

She dropped her eyes, glanced at Claire and then headed out to her apartment, not looking back. I felt elated, but still angry that I couldn’t control my feelings, that I couldn’t control myself when it came to my Angel. The problem was—after all that, I still wanted her again.

Ellie

I sat in the car nervously waiting for the right moment to drop the bag of money into the bin on the corner of Church Street. This was the location that the blackmailer had asked for. He gave me very clear instructions: I had to drop the money at eight o’clock when the streets were abandoned and empty. I couldn’t believe that I was prepared to give away five thousand pounds in order to silence someone.

Late last night I had another message with the details and I texted Tobias straight away. I was too embarrassed to knock on his door again, knowing that Claire was there. She had seen me all flustered right after Tobias and I had sex in the lift. She didn’t need to say anything at the time. She knew what we were doing as soon as the door opened up.

I had no idea what Tobias wanted me to prove to him. He was so obsessive about Adrian. I had been squashing these feelings inside me, assuming that we were both using each other for sex because we were afraid to find out what would come next. I had committed to seeing Adrian again and dreaded how Tobias would react. Tobias’s dead wife deserved to get justice. I was still coming to terms with what I now knew—Andrew was rotten to the core and I couldn’t believe that I hadn’t seen it.

I glanced at the clock realising that it was a minute after five.

My father hadn’t called me back. I felt a little sad, because I honestly thought that I made some progress—that he finally was going to take me seriously. Growing up I had never paid attention to money, but since I started living alone I learnt to save. Bills were slowly getting on top of me and it was easy to keep spending what I didn’t have.

The night was dark and cold, and the streets were empty. This was a rough part of the city. I wouldn’t choose to come here on my own. Tobias assured me that this whole thing needed to be believable, and I had to follow the instructions. I took a deep breath, got out of the car and dropped the money into the trash. I didn’t even look back when I was driving away. Tobias told me that I had to leave the money and get out of there as soon as I could.

Most people never cared about me; my friends weren’t bothered when I moved away. It was obvious that money and status were more important than real friendship. I didn’t make any new friends at work. Mimi was a bitch and Jordan, like the rest of the team, was stuck up in his own arse.

I drove back to the complex, thinking about the future. I swore to myself I’d never fall for anyone again and now I had been struck by Cupid harder than I realised. I didn’t want to compare my feelings to the last time I was in love. The fact was I had to keep pretending that I was all right, making out with Adrian, but deep down all I could think of was Tobias and his endless sexual punishments, which I loved.

My phone started vibrating when I was pulling up outside the complex, and when I saw Adrian’s face on the screen, my blood went cold. I needed to hurry this up, especially after finding out what happened with Tobias and his wife.

“Hey, beautiful, I’ve missed you. Please tell me that you’re free tomorrow evening?” he asked, getting straight to the point. Claire had been trying to find out why he had to go to London the other day, but she wasn’t getting anywhere, even with the bugs that had been installed in his car.

“I will be finishing at five as usual,” I said.

I could hear people on the other side of the phone. He was probably at a party or in the depot.

“Sorry, hon, but I’m very busy. I just called to confirm everything for tomorrow. I’ll pick you up at seven,” he said and then hung up. My stomach made a funny jolt when I thought about telling Tobias about this. He was clear that he didn’t want to share me with anyone, and especially not with Adrian.

I unlocked the door to my apartment and checked my house phone for messages. I didn’t know why I kept doing this to myself. My father didn’t care. Andrew must have told him that he saw me outside and he concluded that I was trying to discredit him because of what happened between us. I went there to give him a heads up in order to protect his business, his reputation, but he acted like he didn’t believe me, that I was doing this because Andrew was now working with him.

That night, I went to bed early. I was up at five the following morning, wondering if Tobias was coming home at all. I needed to tell him that I was going to see Adrian, no matter what. He wanted me for himself, but I couldn’t let him jeopardise this operation because of that. When I got to the office, I kept busy finishing all the articles from Phil and making slow progress on my own story. As soon as my day was over I drove home. Tobias liked working out in the afternoon and this was my chance to let Claire know that I was seeing Adrian tonight. It was a low blow, but I knew how he was going to react. I didn’t need any drama right now.

“Hey, are you all right? Tobias has just popped out. He needed to speak to Adrian about something.”

“Adrian is going to pick me up in an hour,” I said, getting straight to the point.

“Okay, good, but before you go, I have to show you some photographs,” she said.

“Photos, what photos?” I asked in confusion.

“A few potential associates. People that he is getting into business with. I have created a portfolio. You need to keep your eyes and ears open. If you recognise anyone from my list, then try to get their name.”

I nodded and Claire quickly disappeared into the other room, leaving me a little stunned. It looked like she was fine with me going out with Adrian again. It was a good thing that Tobias wasn’t here. I knew that he was going to seriously freak out once he found out where I had gone.

I started looking around their apartment, thinking about this evening, when I noticed a headed letter on the big cupboard by the door.

I took a step forward and picked it up. It was addressed to Tobias and it looked like something important.

Tobias,

I have received your resignation, and I don’t want to believe that you’re ready for this kind of transition. You have been a value member of my team and have served the police force for a number of years. No one wants to see you wasting yourself in Ireland, doing something that we both know you will hate.

Maybe you need some time to think about what’s next. You should go on annual leave and reconsider your decision, then see me, so we can discuss it.

Moving away won’t resolve your problems, and you won’t be happy working at a desk rather than being out in the field. You have been a great officer. I value your work and commitment and I don’t want to let you go.

Think about this. For now I have arranged the transfer to Belfast to begin next month, but I hope you will change your mind before that.

Walker

I re-read the letter a few times, trying to digest the message. Tobias resigned and requested a transfer, away from Scotland, away from me? But why? No, no, no, this was impossible. He couldn’t do that to me after what we both had been through. I’d fallen in love with him, even knowing that there could never be anything between us. There I was again hoping for a fairy tale, but this was real life.

I put the letter away, just in time, because Claire came back to the room. She started showing me the photos, but I couldn’t focus. All I could think of was Tobias, and the fact that he was leaving. He never said that we had a shot, but he did say that he cared for me. This letter clearly stated that once the operation was over our romance was too.

I kept looking at the men on the pictures, trying to memorise their features, but they were all very similar, all Asians. I told Claire, that I would have my eyes open and after an hour I went back to my own apartment. I should have known that this was going to happen. Tobias was never serious about me. We both agreed that we would fuck and then forget about it. That was my intention from the very beginning, but I didn’t expect that I would fall in love.

I guessed that I was screwed more than ever before, because I’d fallen for my one-night stand guy.
