Chapter 2
I haven't always been the lowest of the pack. I was the Beta's daughter before the attack. Loss always seemed to follow me. My mother disappeared when I was one, assumed dead. My father would not tell me what happened, but we moved to the Dark Moon pack shortly after as the Alpha had offered my father his position as Beta back. As far as I knew I had no other family.
I have one photo of her and my father holding me when I was born. It is my only possession. My mother was beautiful. She was also small with white, blonde hair but her eyes were a perfect violet when mine are bluer. Katie with her bright red hair and green eyes would tell me they are purple when I am mad. My mom's hair was pure white while mine has some golden and silver strings.
The only time my father would talk about her was to tell me how much I was like her, how he missed her and that she loved me. My father, as Beta, was constantly training and traveling to other packs. When home I would watch him train and at four began learning the different moves on the sidelines and training hard to be fast and strong.
These years were the best of my life. Shortly after arriving at Dark Moon pack I was put with the Alpha and Gamma's kids for school. I had many friends. Even though Alex and Dane were 4 years older we would always play and train together. Even Amanda, Dane's sister would join to watch.
She was my best friend when my dad was away, I would stay with the Arrendo family during some of his travels. We would have huge slumber parties and pull tricks on the boys. If the Arrendo family was too busy I was left to various Omega families to assist in raising me.
I remember Katie's Parents would watch me the most. They would stay on the Beta floor with me. I was overjoyed when they were pregnant with Katie! I would walk around with my pups and act as if I was the best big sister. Maybe this is why we are so close now. I wish those days could have lasted forever.
I can't remember a day that wasn't filled with laughter and love. I was an ace in school, top of training classes, and even could best Alex on occasion. I had no real worries, cares, or responsibilities. As happy as a child can get.
But as the saying goes all good thing come to an end and when I was 12 my happiness was ripped from me. This was not only the worse day for me as I will lose my father but also for the pack. Dark Moon had always been a strong pack only bested by Violet Moon Pack and the Royal Lines who are said to have been a mix between wolf and witch.
My father was away on trip to the neighboring pack Violet Moon when we were attacked by rogues. The Arrendo's were in a meeting and setting up for a celebration so Dane, Alex, Amanda and I were all playing near the forest being watched by our Omega nannies. We had just finished a race which had ended at the tree line, when 15 rogues came out of the forest.
I remember it like it was yesterday. The rogues came right for me and Amanda. I told Amanda to link her parents and run. I ran in the other direction hoping to give Amanda a chance. Most of the rogues followed me but our Omega watchers linked the warriors and held them off if they could. Four Omegas died at the hands of the rogues before the warriors arrive.
One rogue had gotten through the lines and had pinned me. I was so scared I must have blacked out. The telling of the tail is the rest of the battle was short, and, in the end, 6 warriors and all 15 rogues laid dead without a scratch on them. How they died no one will talk about.
When I awoke the next day, I was told that the Violet Moon Pack had planned the attack and that they had executed my father. War raged between the two packs for two years ending in a sort of peace. After this I was no longer looked at as a Beta daughter. People scurried away from me, and rumors spread that my father had turned and was a traitor and the Alpha himself had killed him instead of the Violet Moon pack. I am not sure the truth only that I was alone. Except for Katie.
I was taken to the pack house and to an omega room to share with Katie. Katie's parents were two of the Omegas that had died. She was only one. We shared a room till I was 14, when I got my own, so I could wake up earlier to attend my daily chores. Katie, being only five, does very little work and still attends most the day at school or daycare. I was not allowed the opportunity to attend real school after my father's death as there was too much work to be done. Mrs. Loveta worked to get permission for me to attend online school. I graduated from this online High School last year when I was 15.
I work full-time now, cooking, cleaning, and doing other chores. The Luna is always nice to me, but I think she hides it from the Alpha. The money the Luna gives me goes to pay for some required items, Katie's school supplies and requirements. What little is left I have saved for when I can finally leave the pack.
Leaving the pack has been a long time in the planning. To date, I have saved $8,000. The plan was to leave when I reached $15,000. This would allow for a one-bedroom apartment rent for a year, so Katie and I would have a place to stay and live. The amount was so if I couldn't find a job right away.
Leaving will be hard for Katie. The pack is great with her and how could you blame them? She is always such a ray of moonlight. This plan has been put into overdrive. We will need to leave sooner than I thought. I just want to be able to get my wolf and shift for the first time before I give it up to live in the human world.
Finally, it was 10 p.m. the guests have arrived, dinner is over and I am almost done with my clean up and can head back to my room to shower and rest as the party goes through the night. I put up the last dish when I hear "Hello my darling."
