Chapter 42
**Elena**
After the moment Sebastian and I had on his desk, one of his assistants knocked on his office door. I quickly got dressed and my face felt like a fire was smirking just under my skin, and keep my back to them as I try to get myself together. I had no idea what being bonded to an Alpha would be like. Our school made the relationship seem almost clinical, but what Sebastian and I have done is not that. In fact, it feels more primal than anything else. Every time Sebastian is near me it feels like his scent caresses me, making me ache for some contact with him. I need to ask Aria how long these sort of feelings will last because I'm not sure how I'll be able to have a clear head around Sebastian if things go on like this. I still had Eli to worry about, even though Sebastian's mom seemed excited about taking care of Eli. It still boggles my mind how small Eli is. In wolf form it's hard to really know it's age when it's small like that, but when he shifted...he looked so helpless. Also, I've noticed how much more protective I feel toward him, like seeing him in his human form has locked in my mind that he is my pup and I would do anything to protect him.
"Sorry about that." Sebastian's deep voice startles me from my thoughts just before his warm body wraps around me from behind. "I want to run away and keep you all to myself, but unfortunately, running a business means all my time isn't my own."
"I understand. Maybe it was a mistake for me to come with you today. I've been distracting you." I feel a twinge of guilt for that.
"You definitely are a distraction, but the good kind. Also, you saw something about that client that both me and Miles had missed. You helped us out. How did you do that? I don't want to sound like an asshole, but you didn't know how to use a phone. Did they teach you anything about business in that Omega School?"
I shake my head. "No. It was mostly how to be a good Omega. Cooking, cleaning, caring for a family, that sort of thing. We studied a few other things, but I also have a photographic memory, so all I had to do was read something once or be shown how to do something and I'll remember. The doctor who worked at the school would sneak books to me sometimes. She also had lots of medical books in her office that I would read whenever I had a treatment done."
"What kind of treatment?" His voice sounds different and when I turn in his arms to look up at him he has a worried expression on his face.
"Sometimes we would need a more extensive exam. Blood work, and they would check to see that we were frugal. Sometimes the girls would have symptoms of going into heat, but that wasn't allowed at the school. So we were also given treatments to help ward it off until it was time for us to be with our Alpha. I had a few symptoms here and there, so I had to go through a treatment to suppress the symptoms." It had happened three times actually.
"They suppressed your heat? How? With medications?" His voice has gotten tighter and the way his jaw clenches makes me think this subject is upsetting him.
As an Omega, seeing my Alpha agitated made me instantly want to relax him, so I wrap my arms around his neck and rubbed my fingers over that area to try and calm him. "It's fine and very common. They made sure to test our fertility after each time. It had no negative effect on me."
"I would still like my own doctor to check you out. Aria is a good pack doctor but a more specialized doctor might be needed."
As much as I would prefer not to see a doctor ever again, I understand his concern.
"If that will help ease your mind. Sure!" I smile up at him and hope he doesn't see my discomfort with the idea.
We end up staying at his office for a couple more hours. While I waited for him to finish his work, he had me read over some of his past accounts and get familiar with what they did here. I'm not sure why he wanted me to understand his work, but I read through everything he gave me and I started to get an idea of the kind of work he did. Mostly he bought companies and reworked them to be more successful, but sometimes that meant firing people. The idea of people losing their jobs made me feel sorry for them, but as I read more I realized those people were asked to leave because of other matters.
One past employee had been sexually harassing his female coworkers, another was skimming money, and another had gone as far as stealing out right. I noticed a few employees who did they're jobs well got moved to other positions in Sebastian's company. For the most part, what he did made sense to me.
Then I noticed something odd. I went through a few more similar documents in the folders Sebastian gave me access to and I realized I was looking at his company's finances, not a clients. A payment was being made every month to an account that is called "gym" which wouldn't seem odd. What was odd was that the payment for this was ten-thousand dollars. I don't know much about the world and nothing about gym memberships, but that seems like a lot. "Sebastian?" I say without looking up from the small screen in front of me.
He had someone bring me a laptop to use and I'd sort of gotten the hang of how to use it.
"Yes love?" he replies.
My head snaps up at the word of endearment, but I don't think he realized he used it since he looks busy.
"I found something off, but not with a client." I say and his eyes move to me.
"What do you mean?" He pushes his chair back and stands.
"It's the company's financial report. I don't know if you meant to give it to me, so I started looking through it until I realized it was this company's reports. Sorry."
He shakes his head. "Don't be. What did you find?" He walks over and sits next to me on the couch.
I change the position of the laptop to show him what I've found. "There's an unusual charge here. I don't know what a normal gym membership costs, but they don't usually cost ten-thousand-dollars do they?"
His brow furrows as he looks at the charges I have found. "No not even close. If someone spends a hundred, it's too much. In my opinion anyway. This makes no sense. I haven't approved a charge like this since I picked up where my father left off."
"This is a reoccurring charge." I tell him.
He starts opening more windows and what looks like a website for a bank. I watch him type a few things and then a list of charges pops up.
"This charge has been reoccurring for the last twelve years. I've never seen my father step foot in a gym or anything like one. My mother either. I can't make sense of this." He pulls his phone out and starts tapping on the screen. "I'm going to have Miles look into this further. I need to talk with the financial department as well. Will you be okay for a little while?"
I nod. "Of course, I'll keep working on these things while you're gone."
He nods looking deep in thought, but when he stands he makes sure to leave a kiss on the top of my head. I watch him as he stands a little taller and a look of determination and almost indifference settles over his face. This is the part of him that his employees see, and I have to admit I don't hate it. He looks dignified and almost regal. The way an Alpha is expected to look.
Once he's gone, I focus back on my assignment. My mind is split as I think about the odd charges and whatever else I'm doing. I'm not sure how long I work for before a woman opens the door and walks in. She doesn't seem to notice me as she moves toward Sebastian's desk. When she glances up she gasps and nearly topples over at the sight of me. The shock melts away fast and is replaced with a scowl. Her arms cross over her chest and she scoffs. "Who the hell are you?" Her scent is artificial, so it's safe to say she isn't like us.
"I'm here with Sebastian." I say simply.
She let's out a humorless laugh. "You? He wouldn't look twice at you. Now how did you get in here? I'm calling security."
I don't know what to say. If she is human, would she understand what I am to Sebastian?
