Chapter Just A Normal Day

Chapter 15: Just A Normal Day

My eyes snapped open and surveyed the room. I was still in Maraberry, my body was slumped against the wall.

“We’ve got her.” A voice mumbled.

I noticed a man pacing back and forth. He had a golden sword slung on his hip; his white blonde hair tied back in a ponytail. He wore a white tee-shirt and jeans, nothing that could mark him as unordinary. As he turned, I caught a glimpse of his back. Protruding out of his shirt where two folded white wings. He turned to look at me and I snapped my eyes back shut, hoping he didn’t see me. He continued to shuffle, and I peeled my eyes back open.

“I don’t know why we are teaming up with demons.” He muttered as a look of disgust danced on his face.

“Get up.” Nyra hissed in my head.

I used the wall to brace myself up, he looked at me with a smirk.

“You look absolutely ridiculous.” He laughed. I growled in response, “Are you supposed to be a bride or something?” He laughed again.

“They said I had to bring you back, they never said you had to be unharmed.” He pulled out his sword.

He swung at me. I raised my hand a red and black sword appeared in my hand. What do I do with this? I don’t know how to use this.

I raised my sword and blocked his. The sword weighed down and I almost dropped it.

“This is so sad. I almost feel bad for you.” He casually swung again, as if he was bored.

I blocked again, “Stop defending and attack. Channel your demonic side.” Lyra commanded.

He swung again, I ducked. Using the edge of the sword I poked it into his hand. The sight of a dark golden liquid momentarily distracted me. He shoved me to the ground, the sword was knocked out of my hand.

“Get up!” Nyra yelled.

“Shut up!” I growled, trying to concentrate.

A surge of unfamiliar power raced through my veins. The man laughed and used his sword as an axe. Trying to maim me, but not severely hurt me. Interesting. I opened my hand; the sword moved a couple inches closer.

I inhaled, redirecting the power to my hand, “Come.” I shouted at the sword.

It flew off the ground and into my hand. My own Thor’s hammer, cool.

“Stay focused.” Nyra reminded me.

“Right.” I said as I blocked another blow.

“His feet.” Nyra whispered.

I looked at his feet, I could knock him off his feet. As he swung again, I lunged for his feet. I grabbed onto his feet, but he didn’t move.

“What are you doing?” He laughed.

I thought if I got to his feet, he would somehow be knocked down like in the movies. If I wasn’t so worried, I might have face palmed. I put a lot of my energy to hit the back of his knees with my sword. I thought back to all the times Adrian kneed me in the back of the knees. He toppled backwards and I rolled away from him. Grabbing both my sword and his. His sword stung my hand, but it was not unbearable. I shakily stood up, angling both swords in his direction.

“Kill.” A voice whispered in my ears.

“What?” I asked confused, “I’m not a killer.”

“Good to know.” The man said, thinking I was talking to him.

He used his foot and knocked me back to the ground. He climbed on top of me, trying to steal his sword back. I used my knee and hit him where the sun doesn’t shine. He grunted in pain and rolled off me. I tossed both swords to the side.

“What are you doing?” Nyra asked in a panic.

“I have no idea.” As I began to panic.

“You are really stupid.” He stood up again.

We began to circle each other like animals. Heat began to build up at the base of my neck, suddenly the room was getting hot. Suddenly a flash of gold was sent flying in my way. I put my hand up and closed my eyes, bracing for impact. When nothing happened, I opened my eyes.

I giant wall of fire stood in front of my hands. Did I do this? I moved my hands, and the wall fell. I shouldn’t have done that. I silently cursed at myself.

A sword was thrown through the fire. I guess, he found his sword. The sword pierced my leg, a searing pain rippled through my body. I wanted to fall to the ground with a cry, but I knew I couldn’t do that.

I mustered the last of my energy and charged at him. His eyes widened in shock, as we both fell to the ground. My hands began to burn as I throttled the life out of him. I wanted to stop but I couldn’t, I was now fighting against myself. I tried to pull myself away, but my body wouldn’t let me.

“Nyra, help me.” I whispered when I raised my hand which was engulfed in flames.

“I can’t.” Her voice was weak, “You need to stop.”

My fought against my hand before it slammed down into the man’s face. He was already unconscious. Calm down. His golden blood smeared my uniform, his breath was jagged. I’m killing him. The sudden realization diminished the fire. I pushed away from the unconscious body. I sat down on the floor, looking at the mess I caused. I’m going to be in so much trouble.

“Twyla!” Kai’s voice echoed through the room.

He rushed over and pulled me into a hug. I let the sparks engulf me as I closed my eyes.

“I’m fine.” I muttered into his chest.

“What are you talking about?” Nyra asked, “You just fought off an angel by yourself and won. Granted you couldn’t have done it without your demon side.”

“You need to get checked up.” Kai began to move the veil, I forgot was on my face.

“That’s not a good idea.” Alvina stopped him, “We have company.”

I peered up from behind Kai’s shoulder. Students with their cellphones began to survey the room. Most eyes watched me intensely, probably wondering how I did this. I was still wondering how I did this myself.

“Kai, you need to let go.” Zephyr pulled on Kai’s arm.

Kai didn’t move, he just stared at me, “I’m sorry I wasn’t there to protect you.” He apologized.

“I don’t need protecting.” I motioned to the unconscious angel, “But there is something you need to know.”

“Not now. You can inform at the debriefing later.” He whispered.

I nodded, “What time is it?”

“6:55.” Clementine immediately responded.

I pushed away from Kai and struggled to stand up. I almost collapsed back into Kai’s arm, but I caught myself.

“What are you doing?” Kai asked, his arms still open in case I fell.

I swatted my hand at him, “I have class.”

Zephyr laughed, “You are going to class, looking like that?”

I peered down at my disheveled uniform. My white sock had a bright red rip through the center.

I pulled down my sock, “Do you have a band-aid?” I asked.

“I do.” A small voice responded somewhere from the crowd.

I turned to face, this medium size red head. She handed me a pink Hello-Kitty band-aid. I thanked her as I moved to get it.

I slapped the band-aid on my leg and pulled back up my sock. Problem solved.

“You can’t be serious.” Kai looked at me incredulously.

“I knew I liked you.” Alvina said at the same time.

I fixed my uniform and brushed off the dirt. I tried to tame my hair with my fingers when I hit a knot, I winced.

“In your bag, I put a brush.” Clementine handed me a brush from my backpack.

I brushed my hair, until I was sure I didn’t have a single knot in my hair. I retied my hair and ignored Kai’s disappointed look.

“I think I look better.” I twirled.

“You sure you want to go to class. You have an excuse.” Zephyr asked again.

“Yup. I am not ditching class.” I didn’t want to say that I was already behind and couldn’t afford to miss a day.

“You are such a good child.” Zephyr laughed at me.

I curtsied at him, “Thank you.” I slightly winced at the pain in my leg.

“You could be infected.” Kai tried again.

“I would never let that happen to you.” Nyra said, she was defiantly offended.

“Nyra said, we are fine. I’m okay, really.” I patted him on the shoulder.

“You can speak to her?” Zephyr asked confused.

“Uh huh.” I nodded slowly.

“Fascinating” Alvina said as she looked me over, “Maybe you aren’t as weak as we thought.”

“Thank you.” I said, but it came out more of a question than an answer.

“You ready.” Zephyr asked.

“You’re coming to class?” I asked, my eyebrows shot up.

“Someone has to watch out for you.” He laughed.

I grabbed my bookbag, “See you guys at lunch.” I turned at waved at the group. M

Most who looked dumbstruck. I turned back as walked arm in arm to Intro to Demonology with Zephyr.
