Northwood

Chapter Chapter Ten

Tobias walked back to the room with a grin on his face, the girl had survived. The issue now was that she fell under Kane’s protection and getting rid of her while she was under his roof would prove rather difficult.

A darkness quickly settled over Tobias. Kane had everything he had ever wanted and as far as he knew didn’t want for anything and now a beautiful young unmated woman fell in to his territory because Tobias was too slow to kill her.

The wheels in his head turned slowly as his walk slowed to match, there had to be a way to get them apart, and there had to be some way to poison Kane against her. Tobias knew that it would take time for him to formulate a plan and in that time he would learn all that he could about the Northwood pack so that he and his family could take them down as well.

He scoffed at the thought of it, “Northwood, so powerful and strong. We will see how strong you are with a weak leader,” he laughed maniacally to himself as he wandered off around the mansion trying to find the room he’d left Kane in. The damn mansion was far too big and grand. Who in their right mind would flaunt wealth in such a way?

He’d made his mind up long ago that Northwood needed to be taken of and now all he had to do was convince his father.

Knowing the female had survived would add more to his campaign to take down Northwood. He knew that was all his father would need to infiltrate and take down Northwood from the inside out.

“Tobias!” Called a voice along the corridor in which he walked. Turning his head towards the source he smirked as Kane walked towards him, “what the hell are you doing?” The annoyed look on Kane’s face started the wheels turning again.

Composing himself slightly he shrugged lightly, “apologies Alpha Kane, your rather stately home had me walking in circles trying to find your office again.”

Tobias watched Kane carefully and noted the look on his face. He didn’t seem to believe what came out of his mouth but before Tobias could add anything Kane shrugged his shoulders lightly and motioned for him to follow.

“As I was saying,” began Kane again as he and Tobias walked towards the back patio of the home. Now that he knew the girl survived all he wanted to do was report back to his father and siblings. There were plans to make, they needed to find a way to separate the girl from Kane so that they could be rid of her. Tobias had a great memory and he noted that the others she had run with were nowhere to be seen, he also noted that Myrna seemed more than a little protective of her and Kane......well he couldn’t tell what Kane was thinking, he never could. It was then that Tobias noticed Kane had fallen silent and stopped talking. “Well if I bore you that much I suppose we are done,” said Kane with some annoyance in his voice.

“Apologies Alpha I don’t mean to be rude I just can’t help thinking,” began Tobias as the wheels in his head turned slowly, a plan was forming to extract as much information from the man he had to call Alpha. “On my way back to your office I came across a girl named Abigail and was wondering if you would introduce us formally?” Tobias knew that her false identity would be revealed sooner rather than later but he wasn’t expecting what Kane said next.

“What business is she of yours?” He questioned with a glare and offered nothing more to the querying tone Tobias offered.

“Well I just thought if she were a guest of yours.....you know? You could set us up.” Tobias knew well that she was Kane’s special woman but he didn’t need to let Kane know that straight off the bat. Tobias would do anything to get what he wanted and he and his entire family pack had proven that.

For many years they had been held at bay by the Hutton family, they had been treated poorly and kept at a distance so when he and his family decided it was time to invade the territory the hatred they all had for the Hutton’s only added fuel to the fire and now that he knew Adline had survived he and his family needed to rectify that. It didn’t matter if Kane and his family got in the way.

They now had the location of one sibling and all that was needed now was the location of the two brothers. It had been a great failure of Tobias and a stain on his name. Needless to say his father was more than a little disappointed in what he had not managed to do, he couldn’t even catch and kill a girl, how had he managed to lose a girl? One single girl?

Tobias noted the flaring of Kane’s nostrils and the crease in his brow, what he’d said must have struck a nerve and he waited patiently for Kane to declare war on him and his family. It would have made everything a whole lot easier.

“Unfortunately that will not be possible Tobias, not now, not ever.” Replied Kane with so much composure it looked like he had a stick shoved up his rear end. At least that’s what it looked like to Tobias.

“And why is that? Pretty little thing like that is going to waste in this place all on her own,” pressed Tobias. He wanted the girl badly but it wasn’t for his own guilty pleasure it was for something much darker.

“Harvey,” called Kane loudly as he could and within a minute Harvey turned a corner and headed towards the pair.

“Sir?” A slight questioning tone to his voice made Kane look at him annoyed.

“Escort our guest here back to the border,” he demanded of Harvey quickly before turning his attention back to Tobias, “inform your father that the next meeting will be on neutral ground. I will not host you in this manor again.”

Tobias turned on his heel and headed out the door closely followed by Harvey. Walking towards his beat up old pickup truck sitting out the front of the stately home. Climbing in to the driver’s side he watched as Harvey got in to a black vehicle behind him, with a sly grin he pulled a phone from his pocket and dialled a number quickly.

“What’s the news?” Answered the voice on the other end, the familiar and impatient tone more than familiar to Tobias.

“The girl is here within Northwood borders,” sighed Tobias quickly as he heard a gasp on the other end.

“Did you get rid of her?” Questioned the voice again, it seemed rather keen on Tobias to put his own life in danger to be rid of Adline.

“It isn’t that easy!” He retorted quickly as he started the vehicle and put it in drive, “she is Kane’s mate and he and his asshole of a mother are more than a little protective of her.” Pleaded Tobias as he crept slowly down the driveway.

“Well that is utterly disappointing son I expected more of you,” Tobias felt his father’s disappointment rush through his entire being in the blink of an eye, to say it felt like a heavy burden was an understatement. Things had only gotten worse the older he got.

With a sigh he hung up and threw his phone at the passenger’s side door. His father expected too much from everyone. It wasn’t even an issue that Tobias’ two brothers had managed to let the Hutton boys escape! The focus was squarely on Tobias and his failure.

“I’ll get it done, but not before I get rid of you first old man.” He gripped the steering wheel tightly and pushed his foot to the floor as his truck quickly gained speed. He was well and truly over his fathers ridiculous orders and it was about time he took his leave from the pack. It was Tobias and his brothers that brought the Hutton family down and the territory was rightfully theirs.

Of that he would make sure.
