Brodie's eyes were bloodshot as he looked at Clara. "Thank you."
Clara gave a faint, reassuring smile. "You need to stay strong, Brodie. Katherine is counting on you."
"I know."

The surgeon emerged with a grave expression. "The patient's liver is critically damaged. We need to perform a liver transplant immediately. We've contacted all the donor registries, but there's no match available yet. The family should get tested right away."
When he heared this, Brodie's hands involuntarily clenched into fists.
His voice trembled. "Okay, I'll get tested right now."
Teo chimed in, "I'll get tested too, and I'll call some more people over."
He immediately whipped out his cell phone and dialed a number.
Soon after, one by one, people started arriving to get typed.
Hours passed, and the test results finally came in.
Brodie rushed to the doctor and asked, "Well? Did you find a match?"
The doctor looked serious. "Only you're a match, but your blood type doesn't align with the patient's. Given her weakened state, she can't accept a liver from a different blood type. Ideally, we need to find a liver with the same blood type."
Brodie's heart sank. "How long can my mom hold on? I'll contact relatives abroad to get tested."
"There's no time," the surgeon said solemnly. "The transplant must happen today, or she won't make it."
A weight seemed to hit Brodie's back, causing his upright frame to slouch.
He was painfully aware of the severity of the situation.
Finding a liver match in such a short time frame was a tall order. His grandfather, halfway across the world, couldn't possibly make it in time. And even if he did, at eighty-years-old, he wouldn't survive such a major surgery.
That was when Teo suddenly spoke up, "lan's type A blood. Let's have him tested, and I'll round up some more A types."
Brodie swallowed his fear and nodded his thanks.
At this point, any glimmer of hope was worth pursuing, even though he knew the odds of a non-relative being a match were slim.
Clara patted his arm, offering comfort, "I'll take the doctor to lan's room for the test. You stay here with Katherine. Trust me. We will find a match."
She flashed him a victorious sign, just like the little girl she once was.
She was his beacon of light, shining through the cracks in his tumultuous life.
Every time a storm hit, it was her encouragement that gave him a reason to stand tall and keep going.
Brodie gave a faint nod. His voice was hoarse. "Take care of yourself."
"I will. Don't worry."
After saying that, Clara led the doctor into lan's room.
lan, already informed by his father, was waiting on the bed.
