Chapter 421
Chapter 421 Theft
The two opposing brothers confronted each other. Jamie broke the silence first and hissed in irritation, “Edward, she’s already
gone. You can put the knife down now!”
Edward stubbornly shook his head, “If I put it down now, you’ll immediately send someone to chase after her, won’t you?”
He knew his brother all too well.
The
very
least he could do now was hold himself hostage for as long as possible. That way, there would be a greater chance for Freya to
escape from Jamie’s twisted grasp.
Edward pursed his lips as he thought of that. It was as if he could feel her getting farther and farther away from him.
Perhaps this would be the last time he would ever see her.
Freya vaulted over the wall and immediately headed towards a small path after landing on a
crouch.
She had been brought here while she was unconscious. Still, it didn’t prevent her from figuring out the direction based on the
sunrise and sunset.
As she swept her gaze across the surrounding trees, she quickly determined that she was in the north of Kundin. In Kundin, the
safest place was the capital.
On the other hand, the north of Kundin was... a mess.
Freya darted down the small pathway heading south.
Time passed bit by bit. Meanwhile, Edward was still standing under the tree, his eyes never straying from Jamie and Monkey.
As the sky darkened, the lights in the villa had already been turned on..
Jamie looked at Edward’s pale face and said, “Put down the knife. I promise I won’t go after her anymore.”
Edward chuckled lightly before retorting, “Jamie, we understand each other too well. Don’t bother trying to deceive me.”
Another half an hour passed, and Edward’s body began to tremble slightly due to the strain.
Jamie’s gaze was fixed on the knife in Edward’s hand. He was genuinely terrified that Edward might accidentally pierce his own
artery.
15
Since Edward had been raising his arm for quite some time, it had gradually become stiff and numb.
He was already in the advanced stage of stomach cancer. So, his physical strength was also failing. He was currently relying on
nothing but his strong willpower and love for Freya to support himself.
Another hour passed, and Edward suddenly lost strength and fell forward.
Jamie hastily stepped forward and caught him.
Edward regained his senses almost immediately and was about to make a move. Alas, Jamie read Edward’s mind before
Edward could pull yet another stunt by raising his hand and knocking the dagger out of Edward’s hand.
He gritted his teeth as he stared at his own younger brother, snarling, “You’re really the best brother in the world. Blackmailing
me for the sake of an outsider!”
Jamie turned to Monkey and growled, “Take him back and keep a close watch on him! Don’t leave any sharp objects in the
room!”
Once he handed Edward over to Monkey, he walked outside with a grim expression on his face.
Edward was weak and gasping for breath as he questioned sharply, “You’re going to find her, aren’t you?”
Jamie turned to look at him and snapped, “I won’t stop unless she’s dead! Otherwise, I will definitely catch her! It doesn’t even
matter if I have to go all the way to Caltun again!”
Edward pursed his lips and mumbled, “Jamie, it seems like you’ve fallen for her.”
This was the second time today that Edward had said this.
“I need her to cure you,” Jamie spat.
Edward simply chuckled lightly upon hearing his response. “I won’t let her fall into your hands. Your love is toxic.”
After their parents passed away early, Jamie had no choice but to take on the heavy burden of supporting the family at a young
age.
He had nothing, and with his status as a teenager, he was at the bottom of the food chain. It was precisely this particular
vulnerability that cost him, forcing him to see the ugly sides of society.
Jamie endured unimaginable humiliation and hardship to get to where he was now. He had
used the darkness and transformed into nothing but a demon in human skin.
He became accustomed to stealing whatever he wanted when he wanted it. His mood swings were unpredictable at best and
downright terrifying at worst. Due to his past, he was ruthless and meticulous to a fault.
Edward closed his eyes bitterly,
He couldn’t protect her any longer. Still, he had managed to stall Jamie and his men for at least half a day. Hopefully, she had
managed to flee far enough that Jamie would never be able to get his hands on her again.
Freya’s road to Kundin’s capital was a rough one.
This country was plagued by constant turmoil and was underdeveloped as a result of the strife they suffered. So, the road was
lined with desolate forests and irritating undergrowth.
The moonlight illuminated the trees by the road, giving off an eerie atmosphere.
Freya stumbled through the forest, unable to walk on the road as it would attract too much. attention.
There were very few vehicles passing by, and in the two hours she had been walking, she had only seen three. However, judging
by the worn-out cars and the anti-theft windows, she knew the people in those cars were far from savory. If she were to stop the
wrong car and seek help, she might end up being sent to some illegal organization to work as a slave or
worse.
There was even a high chance of being on the wrong end of a surgical blade and getting her kidneys harvested.
Thus, she had no choice but to avoid those cars and make her way through the forest. Nonetheless, she made sure to stay at
least ten meters away from the road in order to avoid being discovered and prevent herself from losing her way.
Freya felt her strength gradually returning as she kept a brisk pace.
She usually took some medicine to replenish her energy every night. However, she hadn’t taken any tonight. Frankly, she was
surprised to feel even more energetic despite walking for so long.
She finally saw a dilapidated road sign after another half an hour.
There was a small town just ahead.
Unfortunately, this was Kundin, and this country was globally known for its chaos. So, she had no intention of staying there. She
just needed some food.
33
Freya furrowed her brows as she looked ahead. She wanted to enter the town because only by entering the town would she
have a chance to find transportation. Otherwise, there was a high chance of her starving to death, being targeted by a pack of
wolves, or being captured by illegal organizations as she made her way to Kundin’s capital. Her current location on the outskirts
of town was far too dangerous.
Yet, she also had to consider the fact that it would be difficult to escape Jamie’s men if she entered the town once they
discovered her.
She observed the small town from a safe distance. Just as she expected, this particular town. was in a state of decay and
underdevelopment. There were only a few high-rise buildings in the nearby industrial park, while most were two or three-story
buildings. There were even some tent settlements dotting the outskirts.
After careful consideration, she decided to head towards the slums.
The people in the slums were clearly malnourished and had either vacant or intimidating.
gazes.
Freya passed through a row of tents and entered the town.
As she walked past a small grocery store, her gaze fell upon a row of bamboo poles tied together to form a clothes rack not far
away.
Among the clothes hanging on the rack were women’s garments.
She pondered her options for a few seconds before making a decision and swiftly grabbing a set of women’s clothes. Then, she
hastily fled the scene of the crime.
This was the first time she had ever stolen in her life, so she felt a little guilty.
Freya hastily ducked into a secluded alley, used a large trash bin as a shield, and changed into the local attire.
The Kundin clothing was similar to Florin’s, albeit rather outdated. In fact, it looked like something straight out of the ’80s.
The set she stole was a denim outfit, and she definitely fit in better after putting it on.
Unfortunately, her exceptionally fair complexion still made her stand out in the crowd.
Freya soon felt two people tailing her.
She narrowed her eyes and listened to the unmistakably disordered and heavy footsteps behind her. Could it possibly be Jamie’s
men?
This area was quite chaotic. Hence, it was unsafe for women to be out alone, especially since
1
night was falling.
Freya pursed her lips and turned into a narrow alley.
Once inside, she remained still, waiting. Before long, two local Kundin men emerged at the entrance of the alley.
She sized them up as she eavesdropped on their conversation. Once she noted their lewd. expressions, she immediately
understood their intentions.
As one of them approached her, she swiftly raised her hand and dislocated his wrist.
The man stared in astonishment at his now limp hand that was now as useful as a piece of wet pasta. He was so shocked that it
took him two seconds before he finally cried out in pain.
She wasted no time striking the back of the man’s neck with her palm, enraging the other man. That man hadn’t expected what
he thought was easy prey to harm his partner. So, he rolled up his sleeves and stomped toward her.
Freya sneered in disdain and charged toward him.
Five minutes later, both men were writhing on the ground, howling in agony.
She ignored their pleas and promptly removed one of the men’s caps before mercilessly kicking them a few more times. Then,
she looted them for all they were worth and left them high and dry.
Finally, she delivered a decisive blow to their family jewels before turning and walking out of the alley.
She was finally less conspicuous in the small town with the cap on. Alas, she was still a woman traveling alone, so she still
attracted the attention of many ill-intentioned men.
