Chapter 400 A Crucial Clue
Inken’s stern voice echoed through the phone, “What’s missing?”
“It appears to be the medical equipment that Miss Kaufmann left behind.” Michael gazed at the gaping. void. “Mr. Ink, Miss
Kaufmann, and the three medical scientists have vacated this villa ever since the drug research was successful. Why would
anyone break in to steal things? Could it be connected to those. people?”
Inken’s voice deepened. “Please investigate the whereabouts of those three scientists who were collaborating with Freya on the
drug research immediately!”
If the intruder had taken Freya’s medical equipment, then their objective....
A sudden realization dawned on him.
Perhaps that is why they didn’t trade her for the book, as they need her medical expertise.
Michael promptly agreed to initiate the investigation.
At eight in the evening, Inken received a message from Michael.
The three medical scientists who worked with Freya had vanished simultaneously.
His vague suspicion was validated, and Inken promptly initiated a video conference call with Braxton and Radley.
His expression was grave. “The three individuals had vanished without a trace, and even Michael couldn’t ascertain their
whereabouts for the time being. The modus operandi and the level of secrecy are strikingly. similar to Michael’s disappearance.
Furthermore, the intruder also stole the medical equipment, which suggests they might have ulterior motives. I suspect that
there’s a critically ill person in their organization. who requires Freya’s medical assistance, which is why they haven’t handed her
over yet.”
Radley narrowed his eyes. “This is a significant lead.“
“Indeed.” Braxton pondered on the other end. “If the organization indeed has a critically ill person, it’s highly likely they’ve sought
treatment at major hospitals, so we can extract all the hospital treatment. records.”
Inken nodded in agreement. “This is a more efficient approach than scouring the globe for them.”
The trio outlined the investigation area and then ended the video call.
The next day.
At seven in the morning, after Freya had freshened up and opened the door, she found Jamie leaning against the wall opposite
her door.
“Mr. Fraser, how may I assist you?” She inquired coldly.
His hands were tucked in his pockets, and he straightened up upon seeing her.
“The medical equipment you requested has arrived, so I’ll take you to inspect it. You can also guide them on where to install the
equipment.”
She was somewhat wary, scrutinizing him. “That was quick.”
Ciency a good thing:
She followed him downstairs and spotted the familiar medical equipment in the villa’s courtyard.
He stood beside her, and his hand stroked the stubble on his chin, as he eyed the towering medical equipment and operating
table with curiosity.
“What’s this for? It doesn’t seem like it’s for physical examinations.”
She coldly retorted, “It is for drug research, as Edward needs targeted drugs. I can develop more potent and purer targeted
drugs with this machine than those available in the market.”
He frowned. “Didn’t you mention a new treatment plan? Is it solely for drug production?”
She pursed her lips and glanced at him. “Would you comprehend if I explained, Mr. Fraser?”
Her disdainful attitude irked him, thus disrupting his train of thought.
He regarded her with a frosty smile. “You’re right. All I need is to see my brother’s condition improving. Freya, your time is
running out.”
She directed the workers to move the medical equipment to the adjacent office.
He shadowed her every move.
He spoke up after she had overseen the installation of the machine. “I had visited Edward this morning, and he seems to have
lost considerable weight.”
She glanced at him and scoffed. “Patients with gastric cancer already have poor absorption, and you’re always keeping him
unconscious. It’s inevitable that he’s losing weight as he’s either receiving nutritional supplements or consuming liquid food all
day.”
He narrowed his eyes, and his tone laced with menace.
“According to you, is it best to stop administering those drugs that keep Edward unconscious and let him. regain
consciousness?”
She nodded.
A dangerous aura suddenly enveloped the room.
He seized her neck and pinned her against the cold medical equipment.
He chuckled maliciously and stared at her. “Freya, don’t think I’m oblivious to your scheme. You’re aware of my brother’s
infatuation with you, so you’re trying to wake him up to confront me for your escape, aren’t you?”
Her throat constricted when she felt the hand around her neck gradually tighten. She couldn’t even cough. and her voice became
husky.
“Jamie, you might as well strangle me to death!”
His eyes narrowed coldly. “You think I wouldn’t dare?”
She was gasping for breath, and her hands clenched tightly. Then, she no longer resisted and gently closed. her eyes, seemingly
awaiting her impending doom.
He was seething as he had never encountered anyone so fearless in the face of death!
He tightened his grip and hoisted her by her neck.
Watching her face turn crimson, she seemed on the brink of death at any moment..
He was livid as she was clearly exploiting the fact that he needed her to treat Edward and confident that he wouldn’t dare kill her.
What a brazen woman!
He released his grip, and she slid from his hand, thus collapsing beside the medical equipment. She gasped for air and coughed
incessantly.
“Freya, provoking me will not benefit you.” He approached and looked down at her.
“You have only one month left, which equates to four weeks starting from today. If I don’t see any improvement in my brother by
next week, I’ll kill that useless Maddox first.”
He crouched down and lifted her coughing face. “During the first week, it’s Maddox. In the second week, you can choose either
Lucius or Russell. Another one during the third week, and by the last week, your one-month deadline will be up. What do you
think of my plan?”-
Her throat was hoarse, and she couldn’t speak, so she could only glare at him.
“Jamie, I want Edward to get better more than you do!”
He squinted. “What do you mean?”
“You should at least provide the necessary conditions even if you want me to perform a miracle. Edward is unconscious all day,
and if you don’t even give him a chance to eat properly, it’s all in vain no matter how I treat him!”
She met Jamie’s gaze with her firm voice. “Can’t you trust me once since my life is in your hands now? Please let Edward wake
up, and I won’t tell him about your kidnapping. I’ll just say he was diagnosed with disease, and we found a villa for him to rest
while I treat him.”
Freya continued speaking when she saw him hesitating, “Don’t worry, I won’t let him take any risks.”
He laughed. “Of course. I trust you, Miss Kaufmann.“
She knew that he had agreed to this, but she cursed silently in her heart. Believing in nonsense. The look he gave me just now
was almost as if he wanted to kill me.
