No Escape From the Ex-husband by Summer Winters

Chapter 6

Chapter 0006

“Sorry, I can’t. I have something important to attend to,” Samantha replied without hesitation. Her mind was preoccupied with thoughts of her parents. She didn’t notice who the waiter was referring to.

She tried to walk past the waiter. Several burly men appeared at the entrance and surrounded her.

Gritting her teeth, Samantha questioned the head waiter, “What’s going on?”

“Miss, please come with us.” The waiter was very polite to Samantha, but he grumbled inwardly.

Every woman in Sentius City would be over the moon at the mention of Kendrick. Spending a night of passion with him was considered a great privilege. But, this woman was different.

Not only was Samantha indifferent toward Kendrick, but she also tried to avoid him. Yet, Kendrick seemed inexplicably interested in her.

Regardless of the situation, they had to uphold their principle. They needed to provide their customers with what they desired. This was a fundamental rule of the Enchanted Nightclub.

Through clenched teeth, Samantha said, “I told you, I have an urgent matter.”

“Many apologies, Ms. Duncan,” the waiter said. Before Samantha could react, her b*dy was lifted up into the air. A burly man hoisted her over his shoulder.

“Let go of me!” Samantha struggled. With a pointed look from the waiter, the burly man carried her steadily and went upstairs.

Samantha felt like a mouse caught in a trap. Any resistance was futile. They brought her to a door leading to a room.

The waiter knocked on the door. Hearing a response, the waiter opened the door and called out, “Mr. Ford, we have brought her.”

“Leave,” Kendrick ordered. The waiter left and closed the door politely after himself.

Panting heavily, Samantha glared at the three men before her.

Damien couldn’t contain his impatience any longer. He ran up to Samantha and sized her up curiously. Damien remarked, “Mrs. Ford, I didn’t expect you to have such amazing talent!”

“You’d be surprised. There’s so much more that you don’t know.” Samantha rolled her eyes at him and turned to leave.

A deep and charismatic voice stopped Samantha in her tracks. “Samantha …”

Her hand which was reaching for the door froze. She had no choice but to turn back around.

A familiar man got up from his seat. Kendrick’s handsome face wore an unreadable expression.

Samantha believed that she would have greeted this man eagerly if she had met him yesterday. She had missed him dearly then. Instead, Samantha realized that she was unmoved at the sight of Kendrick. She felt like this was a miracle.

“Is there something you need?” Samantha asked, arching an eyebrow. Her tone was calm and indifferent, as if they had never shared a bed before.

Something was amiss. Even the slow-witted Damien sensed that the atmosphere was off. He exchanged a glance with Jude. Both of them simultaneously took a step back.

They were wary of getting caught in the crossfire between Kendrick and Samantha.

For some reason, Kendrick’s heart ached when he saw the cold expression on Samantha’s face. He took a while to regain his composure before asking in return, “Why are you here?”

His words conveyed more warmth than he had expected. He wondered if he cared about Samantha.

Not only did Kendrick seem taken aback, but Samantha also had a look of bewilderment in her eyes. However, her astonishment was brief.

Samantha quickly chided herself for being irrational. She was just a woman whom he discarded. Even when she was kidnapped by loan sharks, he remained apathetic. Nothing had changed since.

She let out a chuckle and said mockingly, “Loan sharks are pressuring me to pay up and yet, my husband couldn’t care less.”

With that, she opened the door and left.

Kendrick’s l*ps twitched. A loud smash echoed in the room as he destroyed a wine glass to vent his frustrations.

Kendrick said, “Jude, cancel all my evening appointments. I need to go home.” A sinister expression appeared on his handsome face. Illuminated by the dim lighting in the room, he looked like a bloodthirsty demon.

The other two men shivered in unison.

Samantha ran downstairs and escaped without a hitch. Fortunately, no waiters intercepted her on her way.

Samantha left the Enchanted Nightclub and hailed a taxi. She arrived at the hospital in under five minutes.

Samantha hurried to the front desk and inquired about her father.

Finally, she stood at the door of Room 202. Her eyes were filled with tears as she looked at her father, who lay motionless on the bed. Her mother seemed to have aged significantly.

The doctor standing nearby apologized, “I’m sorry, Ms. Duncan. We did our best, but the cerebral hemorrhage in Mr. Duncan’s brain was too severe. Unfortunately, he was brought to the hospital too late.”

He continued, “However, there have been cases where people recovered from paralysis miraculously. It is not unheard of in the medical field.”
