No Escape From the Ex-husband by Summer Winters

Chapter 15

Chapter 0015

Upon receiving such an unequivocal response, Kendrick seemed to hear the echoes of the past crumbling to dust.

In reality, he was just aggrieved.

They were together for over three years. It wasn’t that he didn’t feel her unwavering devotion to him all that time. It was that she was the one who forced their marriage in the first place–a fact that he had never reconciled with. That was why he staged the entire scene to provoke her into leaving.

Witnessing her wild and seductive side stunned and angered him to the fullest extent. Someone like her should have rightfully been his from the start. If he dn’t want her, no one else should be allowed to covet her.

He was infuriated. He yearned to punish her, but the thought of her dying never once crossed his mind.

The man calmly lifted his head, an unfeeling smile played on his l*ps. “Your story is fabricated quite well, Samantha. Do you think I’m a fool?”

Samantha simply smiled. Not a trace of panic was visible on her face. “If you’re so great, Mr. Ford, why don’t you verify the truth yourself? I doubt it’ll be difficult for you to investigate if Ms. Duncan is still alive.

“It’s just that. If you cared so much for her, I wonder why you didn’t meet up with her during her time in Meriscape. All you had to do was poke around a little, and you would have learned what kind of life she was leading. Why pull such an expression now?”

Kendrick was perplexed as to what expression he was wearing. He subconsciously brought a hand to his face. Suddenly, he realized that the woman before him had taken the lead in their conversation, and he had inadvertently started going along with her flow.

He sneered and said, “In that case, I must have mistaken you for someone else. You may leave now.

Goodbye, Mr. Ford.”

He watched as she prepared to leave in an unbothered state. As he did, his heart sank even further.

He spoke again, “Ms. Meadows, I apologize for my lack of respect earlier. Your talent is something every company in the country desires. I sincerely hope for

“I’m sorry, but I do not wish to stay. I’d rather not be a source of annoyance for anyone. I don’t want to be branded a transgressor in the eyes of Ford Corporation.

He took a deep breath and said, “I don’t know if Samantha ever mentioned this to you, but I was her husband. That’s why I was momentarily anxious. Please forgive me.”

Samantha stared at him with a complicated look.

If this was four years ago, seeing the expression on his face would have put her on cloud nine. She would have been ecstatic enough to help herself to seconds for dinner.

But now, she only found it ironic.

As this was the situation, she couldn’t understand why he went through the trouble of hurting her, making her suffer, and leaving her to fend for herself thousands of miles away from home.

She suppressed the overwhelming sadness weighing down on her. She whispered, “If so, I’ll stay. Though I do have one condition. I hope that you won’t mistake me for Ms. Duncan again. I don’t believe that I look anything like her.”

Before she left, she turned to look back at the man, who was still immersed in his thoughts. She couldn’t help making one last statement. “Mr. Ford, I don’t know what happened between the both of you, but I have a word of advice–cherish those before you.”

With that, the door slammed shut. Kendrick picked up the phone on his desk and called Jude’s number.

“Find out everything that happened to Samantha in Meriscape in the past four years. I want to know every single detail!”

Having exited the president’s office, Samantha heaved a sigh. She headed for the restroom. She freshened her makeup and flashed a professional smile at her reflection in the mirror.

Once she was satisfied with her flawless appearance, she packed up her things to leave. At this moment, a curly–haired woman walked in while talking on the phone.
