No Escape From the Ex-husband by Summer Winters

Chapter 10

Chapter 0010

“Your total payment is 200 thousand dollars. Here’s your receipt, thank you.”

Alexis retrieved her gold card and walked over to Samantha, shoving the receipt into her hand. “Here, it’s all sorted.”

“Thank you, Alexis,” Samantha said gratefully.

“Come on, why are we talking about this between friends?” Alexis had a

straightforward and direct personality. She couldn’t stand Samantha being all sentimental and emotional.

Alexis sat Samantha down and put an arm around her shoulder. “So, what next?”

“I don’t know, but I’ll pay you back as soon as possible,” Samantha replied.

“Samantha, stop talking about money with me!” Alexis was about to continue when she was interrupted by her phone’s ringtone.

“Hello, what is it?” Alexis answered the call impatiently. Her expression changed instantly.

“What? Say that again? Where are you now? Alright, I’ll come right away.”

Alexis hurriedly hung up and apologized to Samantha, “I’m sorry, Samantha. My dad just had a heart attack. I need to return home immediately.”

Samantha understood how important Alexis‘ father, Michael Garcia, was to her. She urged Alexis to go. “Go ahead. I’ll be fine. Let’s stay in touch.”

“See you!” Without another word, Alexis hurried off.

What they both hadn’t realized was that a sinister gaze was watching their every move nearby.

A phone rang and the woman placed it by her ear without so much as glancing at the caller’s name. “Hello.”

A cautious voice spoke up on the other end of the call, “Miss, I have done as you instructed. However, I don’t think I can continue working at the Garcia Residence much longer.”

She sounded guilty and a little afraid.

“Don’t worry, I won’t mistreat you.” The woman smiled and put her phone away. Snapping her fingers, a group of men dressed in black approached her.

She spoke through her red l*ps calmly, “Proceed with the plan.”

“Yes, Miss.” The black–clad men nodded respectfully.

The woman smirked and put on her sunglasses. “Let’s go.”

Samantha watched as Alexis‘ silhouette faded into the distance. Sighing, she was about to head back when her phone rang again.

She checked the caller ID and realized that it was an unknown number. After

some hesitation, she answered the call, “Hello?”

“Hello, is this Ms. Duncan? I work at the Enchanted Nightclub. Our boss was enchanted by your performance yesterday. If you’re available, we would like to invite you personally for a detailed discussion.”

Samantha bit her l*p. “I’m sorry, I…”

She was about to decline when the deep voice on the other end spoke again. “We are paying a monthly salary of 30 thousand. Ms. Duncan, are you interested?”

She needed the money.

Samantha gritted her teeth. Her knuckles turned white from gripping her phone too tightly. After a moment, she replied, “Yes.”

“Please step outside and get into the black Audi.” The person on the other end of the line seemed confident that Samantha would accept the offer. The call was abruptly cut off.

Samantha stood rooted to the spot, her eyelashes quivered with fear. She closed her eyes and made her decision. Taking a deep breath, she walked out of the hospital.

There was indeed a black Audi at the entrance.

Walking over to the car, she knocked on the window and got in. Before Samantha could speak, her head was covered by a sack.

Samantha tried to struggle, but her delicate wrists were easily restrained. A cold sensation washed over her. Dismayed, Samantha soon realized that her

consciousness was fading. She fell into a deep sleep.

The plan was a success. The black–clad men in the car exchanged glances. The driver started the car and sped off. One of the men in the backseat rummaged for Samantha’s phone and tossed it out the window.

Meanwhile, Alexis rushed home at breakn*eck speed. She was surprised to find her father leisurely reading a newspaper.

“Dad, how are you okay?” she exclaimed in shock. Michael rolled his eyes at

What’s wrong with you, Alexis? Are you hoping that something bad will happen to your father?” Alexis‘ mother, Diane Jones, walked out with a fruit platter.

Diane continued nagging at Alexis. “Look at you, you lack the grace and poise of a young lady. Why aren’t you more like your brother? He is very mature and grounded.”

She handed an apple to Aaron Garcia, Michael’s eldest son. Aaron ignored her offer, and Diane withdrew her hand awkwardly.

Alexis glared at her stepbrother for being respectful to her mother. Their eyes. met in a tense moment.

Alexis suddenly noticed something amiss.

“Where’s the caretaker?” Alexis asked. It was the caretaker who had called and informed her of Michael’s heart attack. She had rushed home because of it.

“I have no idea! She hasn’t turned up all day.” Diane gave Alexis a strange look. She was about to say more when Alexis slapped her thigh and took off like a gust of wind.

Diane shouted after Alexis, “Hey, are you having dinner at home?”

Diane knew that she wouldn’t get an answer. Alexis‘ figure had already disappeared through the front gate in a blink of an eye.
