Chapter 97
Chapter 97: My Wolf
Drexel POV
My anxiety was getting the better of me. I walked after Steven, unsteadily. My clothes were soaked with blood. Some of it was mine but most of it belonged to others
"Are you coming with us?" Steven asked, his brows knitting, as if he couldn't believe that I would go with him to find Penelope
My heart thumping against my ribs, I placed a hand on my sore throat. "Yes," I managed to speak. It was not difficult to note the tremor of terror that rippled through me. The terror settled
in my chest and it wreathed my soul because I couldn't- Oh God. Deep down I was cracking. I took a shallow breath as my eyes locked with Steven's
"Is she your mate?" Steven asked, his eyes wide but his voice laced with trepidation
My heart cracked even more. "Yes," I whispered, unable to stand any longer. My head was going dizzy with anger, with terror and with something unknown
Steven's hands closed in tight fists as he tried to maintain his calm. But he failed. A snarl slipped past his throat and the next I knew was a sharp pain lancing on my temple. He punched me on my face. I stumbled back without saying a word
My warriors were ready to charge at him, but I put my hand up to stop him as I wiped blood from the corner of my mouth. I deserved it
"Steven!" Kimberley came by his side to grab his hand to stop him
That seemed to soothe Steven, but he was still mad on the inside. He should be. Penelope was in this condition because of me. I didn't want it to happen this way. But I really needed to expose Freya and her band of conspirators once and for all. Then I was going to focus entirely on Penelope. But this development took me by surprise
"Steven," Kimberley said in a low voice. "There is nothing we can do. Mateo said that the stalker
took her after killing Nina and tasing all the security."
My stomach plummeted. Did the stalker tase Penelope too? I was going to chop every finger of his one by one, slowly, painfully. I closed my eyes and I saw... Penelope. I saw her laughing. I heard her begging for more. I walked past Steven to sit in his car and as soon as I sat inside, I gripped the hair of my scalp, pulling them so hard until I felt the burn
I was a husk before Penelope entered my life. I could hear her saying: 'No one can love you more than I.' No, this was not how it was supposed to happen
I heard the car's engine starting and Steven
revved it up. In no time we were on the route to the Gold Crest pack
"Alpha Drexel," Kimberley said softly. I could sense the sadness pouring from her voice. I didn't like that sadness because my skin absorbed it
She touched my upper arm and I shuddered

"We will get Penelope back," she said, her
words a promise. "We will, Alpha Drexel."
My chest hummed with a dangerous rumble. I felt like I couldn't breathe. The pain and fear of her safety, of her wellbeing tore at my heart. I was hoping against hope that the kidnapper didn't do anything to her. "Stop the car!" I rasped
Steven pulled the car to the side. I opened the
door and tumbled out of it. My knees sank on the ground. We were surrounded by darkness of the woods around us. The moon hung in the sky and I wondered if the Moon Goddess was smirking at me or angry with me
Penelope... Who would have kidnapped her? Why?
Throwing my head back, I roared as rage erupted from me. Over and over, I imagined Penelope being tased. Over and over, I sensed Penelope's fear. Somewhere in the distance, thunder exploded, sending the birds flying out of their nests
I felt like killing everyone and everything. My wolf was clamoring to come out. I let him. The
bones snapped and I welcomed the familiar pain of shift. The next I knew was that I was running through the forest in my wolf form. Moment later Leo came after me. My wolf knew the destination
I must have run fast, even faster than Steven's car or mine that Eric was driving with other warriors. When I reached the Gold Crest pack, my wolf didn't shift back into his human form

He ran wild around the pack to catch the smell of his mate
It was already early in the morning, but my wolf wasn't receding. I was on the edge, and I realized that staying in my wolf form calmed me. I let him take his time to sniff his mate
The Gold Crest pack must have experienced heavy deluge of rain and that was why the ground was wet and slippery. My wolf must have tumbled a number of times through the woods and mounds, but that was nothing. He Just continued to search until he was exhausted
My beta asked me to come back, but my wolf disregarded him. I think Leo left me some time during my hunt for Penelope
After he had wandered for the whole day around the Gold Crest pack territory, my wolf lay on the ground beneath an oak tree. He couldn't pick up her smell. He closed his eyes and allowed me to shift
When I woke up, I was naked. Tired and burned out, I coughed as I pulled myself on my haunches. It was dark in the night and I realized
that my wolf had roamed around the pack for the entire day
With legs feeling like boulders, I walked to Steven's manor. I must be looking like shit because Kimberley shouted at the servants to arrange a hot water bath for me
There were several men sitting in the main hall, who looked like security people. They had laptops in their hands, perhaps showing videos
My gaze went to Steven. "Did you find her kidnapper?"
