Chapter 129
Chapter 129: Hinderance
Drexel POV
Every day with new Penelope was like a blessing to me. I had had lengthy discussions with Dr. Blake about her amnesia and he had said just one thing- "Don't force her into remembering anything. It is better she remembers them all on her own. And when she does, be there with her."
I was dreading the day she would remember it all, but I was also preparing myself. I had a lot of explanations to give her. I think it would be best to claw my heart and gift it to her ina velvet box. Yeah! I was going insane
Her memories were coming in small flashes and she was trying to connect the dots. I wanted to help her with that but she wasn't discussing it with me. And that was all the more worrisome because it was necessary that she took my help instead of taking anyone else's. Blake had said that she needed freedom. I was giving her the freedom. If she didn't want to discuss her feelings or memories with me, I decided to give her time, but for how long?
It was when Boris told me through our mental link that she was at the log cabin and had asked about Freya, I panicked. Though I knew she would come to know about her eventually, it was her condition that was creating havoc on my emotions. I asked Boris to get her back for the appointment with the stylist
"Correction. You are the most beautiful," I said to her, meaning every word. She was the elixir of my life. "And I love you." When she gazed into my eyes with her moss green ones, my breath lodged in my throat and I knew that she was conveying the same to me
After finalizing her dress, we came back to our home. Throughout the way back, she didn't speak with me and I could sense that she was still dealing with her memories. I held her hand tightly in mine to assure her that if she needed my help, I was there
I took her to our room. "You must sleep for some time, Penelope," I suggested. "It's been a tiring day..." She nodded slightly as she went to the bathroom. I followed her there and watched her washing her face and hands. "Do you want to talk to me about something?" I goaded
She shook her head. It frustrated me that she was not sharing her memories. So, I went to her and curled my arms around her waist. I tilted my head and watched our reflection in the mirror. I kissed her temple and said, "Penelope, do you need my help in anything? I am right here for
you..
Her lips lifted into a smile. "I am waiting for your wolf to meet mine."
"Goddess. I love you so much. Give me a day, okay? I am crazy busy right now. And I can't rush my wolf with you. He wants to spend a lot of time with his mate." Boris had informed me about the rogue problem in the south of our pack. Though I had dispatched a team of twenty gamma warriors with him, I was still unhappy about the situation. What did they want? My mind went to Freya and Walker and the rest of the Alphas in the dungeons and I became restless
"Okay..." she said in a low voice
I scooped her up in my arms and brought her back to the bed. Once I set her there, I tucked her in the blanket, kissed her again and left for the office
I went to my office where I called Leo. "T want to talk to Walker. And what 1s the information on the rouges? Why 1s there a sudden attack on our territory? Things were going well as far as I
remember!" This sudden attack made me think twice about the timing. Both Steven and I were planning on getting married in our packs and then hosting a joint party for our pack members
We were both about to send invitations to our people but this small hindrance bothered me greatly
Leo sat at the table. He pursed his lips. "I don't think it's just the rogues out there. There are some who are also loyalists of the imprisoned Alphas amongst them. So I do think that it is about the timing."
I got up from my chair and walked to the glass wall which overlooked the gardens. "This means that there are more rogues than what you see out there!" I rubbed my hand on my mouth. "We need to re-strategize this. Send another team of
two dozen gamma warriors. And I will ask Steven to send his men as well. Gather more warriors from other packs, but do not touch a single warrior from the packs we have recently got in control. I wouldn't know who the mole is." I turned back to gaze at him and in a stern voice said, "I don't want anything to go wrong in our wedding."
"Yes Alpha," Leo replied. When he left, I knew that things were far from over. I also knew that this attack was not just a rogue attack. Under the facade, it was an attack to destabilize me while taking advantage of my situation. And suddenly it occurred to me. Penelope was also in grave danger because now everyone knew she was my weakness. My wolf became restless inside me. He wanted to come out and be with his mate. 'Calm down, Wolfe,' I chided him
'You must hide her.'
I decided to go to south when the night fell. I called Steven and several other Alphas who were under me. We had to ambush the rogues and whosoever was there. If they thought that they could take me down, then they didn't know me. I was going to take them down and not let anything happen during my wedding. I was so looking forward to it. I wanted to give Penelope a peaceful beginning. That night-
