Chapter New 6

Chapter 6

With that, Aubrey threw down the document onto the table and prepared to storm out. The Cohens were too shameless for their own good!

“Aubrey!”

Randell jumped to his feet and yelled at her. “If you take this to court, you won’t get anything out of it, and we won’t be paying you a single cent either. You have no parents, no background, and no experience. You’re going to lose the case if you sue us!

“So instead of walking out with nothing and still taking the blame for the whole divorce nonetheless, why don’t you just sign this agreement and get a few million dollars in return as compensation? Might as well end this on an amicable note.

“Take the money and go back to your countryside. Nobody there is going to know about you and Mr. Miller. It’s only going to circulate amongst the elites here anyway, so nobody else will know about it. I don’t like telling other people that you cheated on me either!

“You can start all over and still have millions of dollars in savings in the bank. Find some guy you like in the countryside and marry him. You’ll still be able to carry on with your life happily.

“You better not reject this offer while we’re still being nice to you. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.”

Aubrey turned around and glared at Randell in fury. She couldn’t believe that she had been married to this scoundrel for three years!

Her eyes were red as aggrieved tears began swirling in them. However, she was a stubborn lady and refused to let her tears fall.

“Randell, I don’t mind divorcing you, but I refuse to be the scapegoat. If you insist, then I will never agree to the divorce!”

With that, Aubrey stormed out of the mansion without looking back.

She bumped into Lindsay in the yard.

“Madam Aubrey?” Lindsay called out to her, worried.

Aubrey had taken care of the house chores for three years, and all of the household staff were fond of her.

“Are you okay, Madam Aubrey?”

Aubrey wiped the tears from her eyes and said in a trembling voice, “I’m fine, Lindsay. I’ve been expecting this to happen.”

She just never thought that the Cohens could be so shameless as to pin the blame on her and accuse her of cheating so that people wouldn’t point fingers at them when it was Randell who had cheated instead.

“Mr. Randell and Ms. Stowe have had feelings for each other for a long time. Madam Aubrey, it’s just that you can’t… Madam Aubrey, you need to take as much as possible from this incident. Don’t shortchange yourself.”

Lindsay felt sorry for Aubrey. However, since she was only a member of the household staff, there was nothing she could do for her. She couldn’t even speak up for Aubrey on her behalf.

The only thing she could do was to remind Aubrey to look after her best interests and not let the Cohens take even more advantage of her.

Aubrey bit on her lower lip and said, “Don’t worry, Lindsay, I won’t let that happen. I’m in a bad mood now, so I’m going out for a drive. I probably won’t be coming back tonight, so you don’t have to leave the gates unlocked for me.”

Lindsay said in an understanding tone, “Yes, Madam Aubrey. Take care of your health and don’t let the anger sit for too long or you’ll get sick. You can’t let anything bad happen to yourself.”

Aubrey nodded and walked past Lindsay to get to her car.

No, it wasn’t her car. It was just loaned to her. She didn’t own it.

A while later, Aubrey drove out of the mansion grounds. She called her only best friend, Isla Dunn.

Aubrey had been friends with Isla even before she got married to Randell. They had been friends since high school. Although they had been in different classes, they still managed to become close to each other. Aubrey supposed it was fate.

Back when Aubrey told Isla that she was going to marry Randell, Isla had advised her against it. She had told her that it wasn’t easy to marry into a rich family. Also, the Cohens only allowed Randell to marry her because they were repaying her a favor on her father’s behalf. With no real feelings involved, the marriage wasn’t going to last long.

However, Aubrey couldn’t bear to turn down Grant’s wish. She finally gave in and agreed to marry into the family so that Grant would feel better and less guilty about the past incident.

She was simply too kind and soft for her own good. And this was how her kindness landed her in boiling hot water this time.

“Isla, ready some snacks, and let’s get drunk tonight.”

Isla asked Aubrey in concern, “What’s the matter? Didn’t you go back to make lunch for your husband?”

“I’ll tell you when we meet. I’m in a terrible mood now and I just want to get drunk out of my mind.”

“Alright, then I’ll wait for you before having lunch. I just finished cooking.”

Isla didn’t press any further and promised to wait for Aubrey to arrive before having lunch together.
