Chapter 565
She was done for...
Gwen heard her inner self roar like a wild beast. As soon as Linus said those words, she collapsed onto the couch.
"Linus, do you actually mean that?"
"Yes, and I'm sure you've long known how I felt. You know that the one in my heart... isn't you."
Gwen gripped her hair with one hand and her chest with the other. She felt pain from head to toe, her entire body screaming in agony. She could hardly catch her breath. "You..."
Gwen could not manage a complete sentence.
"Gwen, Moose once asked me this. When you first joined the organization and were ostracized by everyone, humiliated by your father, and used as a cash cow by your mother, would I still choose to help you again if given the chance?" "What did you say?" Gwen asked mechanically.
"I said I would still help you."
"Linus..."
"Gwen, you need to understand that there are limits to human emotions. Anyone with a conscience won't just walk away after seeing you beaten and scarred."
Perhaps other people in this ruthless organization would do that, but not him. He was an outlier.
"Linus, I don't want... I don't want to leave you."
Linus was getting tired of this. It seemed that Gwen had not grasped his intentions.
"Forget it, Gwen. I have some important matters to discuss with Mr. Zimmer, so take care of yourself."
Linus knocked on the door to the study and entered after receiving permission, leaving Gwen alone staring wide-eyed at the closed door. 'Gwen, are you really going to let go?' The voice inside of her became clearer and clearer, to the point of almost piercing her eardrums. No, she was not.
...
"Mr. Zimmer, I hope I'm not disturbing your rest."
Daniel, who had rested for a while, stood up with his cane as soon as he saw Linus at the door.
""Linus, you're finally back."
"Yes, sir. The last mission was completed successfully."
"Well, I never doubted you. You're the most reliable person in the entire organization."
"You're too kind, Mr. Zimmer."
"No need for false modesty. Did you have a chat with Gwennie just now?"
Linus clenched his teeth. "Yes..."
"This granddaughter of mine is truly a troublemaker. I hope you understand."
Daniel struggled to bring up the subject Gwen asked him to discuss with Linus, feeling that Gwen had overstepped.
Sensing his dilemma, Linus tactfully
avoided the matter. "Mr. Zimmer, ve gathered quite a bit of information regarding the matter you wanted me to investigate."
"Is that so? That was quick."
"Leon Corporation is now under complete control of Matthew Leon, but he's much harder to deal with than the previous leader. If we were to confront him head-on, it would be very dangerous for us."
Daniel's expression turned grim. He was well aware of the current state of Leon Corporation. Even five of their organizations combined would not be enough to defeat it. Most importantly, they could not afford to be exposed, so they could only operate in secrecy.
"In that case, let's not approach this from a corporate angle. Instead, let's start with Matthew's social circle."
Daniel handed a document to Linus, and at the top of the file was a photograph of a woman-Lucy.
"Use your own identity to approach this woman."
