Nephilim and the Nun

Chapter 13: •Company•

Quinn:

Why was the woman everywhere I went? I questioned myself.

My eyes darted to the two men with her. I couldn't recognize them but they were holding guns and the woman was tied up. There was a shovel on the ground beside a fresh grave they must have dug to bury her. There were also two flashlights on the ground.

While they were still frozen to the spot, I took the guns from the men and shot them in the head. Next, I untied the woman. Thereafter, I unfroze them and the men fell to the ground, dying on the spot. The woman's eyes widened, unable to comprehend what had just happened. She looked from one man to another before her eyes finally landed on me.

"You". She exclaimed, in annoyance.

And here I was, thinking she'd be grateful. My subconscious asserted.

"You're welcome". I muttered, a scowl marring my face.

"Do you follow me everywhere I go?". She asked, frowning. I couldn't help but notice the way her lips formed into a pout.

"I should be asking you that". I looked down at her. She was still seated on the floor but she wasn't dressed like a nun. Instead, she was wearing denim shorts that stopped mid-thigh, a tank top, and sneakers. This time around, her hair was the wavy blonde I'd seen on her phone. "What business did you have with these men?". I gestured towards the bodies on the floor, eyes staring intently into hers. "That's none of your business". She spat out in a harsh voice.

I smirked in response. If only she knew I was aware already. While I stared into her eyes, I took that time to scan her. I remained silent, as I continued scanning her till I got what I was after. The information I discovered wiped my smirk from my face.

The men were sent to assassinate her by father Eliot. He was her biological father.

I narrowed my eyes at her, trying to make sense of the information. I knew the man was a monster but to the extent of wanting to kill his daughter? Again, how doesn't the church know he has a daughter? I could only get one conclusion. He hid it to remain a priest.

"I'd appreciate it if you stop looking at me like the weirdo you are and show me a way out of here".

Her silky voice broke my reverie.

"You're in the middle of nowhere and wouldn't be able to find your way out this late". I finally took my eyes off her.

The discovery of her being Elliot's daughter still hovered around my head.

"What are you even doing here?".

"You advised me to run, didn't you? Well, I live here now".

She barked out a laugh.

"Wow, you must want to live". She said, still laughing. Her eyes wandered around the forest that was dead quiet. For a moment, I saw fear registering in her eyes but it was gone as soon as it'd appeared. Her eyes wandered to the dead men and she gulped before returning her eyes to me. They were much softer than they'd been. It was almost as if she was about to cry but she swallowed back the tears. "T-thanks for saving me". She muttered in a low voice, returning her gaze to the ground.

"You're welcome but try to stay out of trouble. Your smart mouth is more than enough to handle".

She rolled her eyes at my response, standing to her feet. She dusted her ass. Again, her gaze traveled around the forest.

"I guess I'd just find a place to lay my head on till it's dawn". She muttered under her breath while her gaze continued scanning our environment.

"Not so fast honey". Her eyes snapped to mine. "You have bodies to bury". I stamped my words with a smirk.

"What?". She exclaimed in shock. "You can not be serious".

"Honey, I'm dead serious".

I picked the shovel from the floor and threw it at her. It landed a little distance from her.

"Get to work". I ordered, leaning on a nearby tree.

"Why should they be buried?". She whined in protest.

"If you want to risk getting found by whoever sent them, then leave their bodies here, unburied".

She frowned at my words.

"I didn't even kill them". She threw her hands in the air. "You did".

"And I did you a favor".

I could help her bury the bodies but I was enjoying her reaction. It was a punishment for her smart mouth.

After a while of glaring daggers at me, she took the shovel and continued digging the shallow grave that would have been used to bury her. After digging for a while, she stared at me, her eyes begging for help but I wasn't going to cave in. Not even if she said the words.

"Come on, get to work". I ordered, enjoying every bit of it.

Ignoring me, she walked towards the first body. Grabbing the man by his legs, she began dragging his heavyweight to the edge of the grave. Thereafter, she rolled him into it and he landed in with a heavy thud She did the same to the second body before covering the grave with the sand.

"Good girl". I mockingly complimented her, grinning.

I moved from my position on the tree and picked up the shovel, the flashlights, and the guns.

"Hold my hand".

She arched her brow questioningly at me but I stared at her with a blank expression. Sighing in exasperation, she grabbed my arm and I blurred back to the cabin, with her.

I wasn't skeptical about using my powers around her because she already knew who I was from the church. Fellow nuns must have told her of the evil within me. And the fact that she wasn't scared of me, nor my abilities made it easier to use them around her. It also hinted at how different she was from who she claimed to be, a fucking nun.

I dropped the items I was carrying to open the door.

"You know, I thought you were living at the top of trees". She chuckled to herself while I shook my head.

Just one punishment wasn't enough to tame her smart mouth.☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐☐
