Chapter Origin stories
While I sat and ate my berries picked by ash and flint I began to wonder. I knew my origin story I mean it was only three days ago yet the others never said a word about how they met. I had to know.
“Hey Ash”
“yeah” She replied with a mouth full of food.
“ How did you like meet flint cause well it cant have just been a case of you being friends then both on the same day seeing that you had powers.”
Both Ash and flint looked at me kind of surprised kind of smug.
I knew straight away what they were saying “Is that really it. No awesome fight scene no tragic ending just you one day are like oh cool we got powers mine have something to do with fire and mine earth. We shall call ourselves flint and Ash and live in the woods eating berries for the rest of our lives.”
I was being very joking and sarcastic until Ash said “pretty much yeah”
My jaw just dropped. I was not impressed. How can these warriors go from nothing to everything just like that. Even Bart Simpson has a cooler origin story and he hasn’t got any superpowers.
I turned to Sye and asked him “so what your thrilling tale of origins” scowling at ash on the word thrilling.
He remained silent for a moment looking at the lake. He spoke softly as if it really hurt him.
“I used to have a home. A real one with a mum and dad and an older brother. We were always so happy together. I can't think, of a single time that I was truly angry at them. We went out in the car one day just a routine visit to the dentist. My dad was driving. I had always wanted to learn but I wasn’t quite old enough. As we arrived at a very busy crossroad we had a red light and I kept saying just go there are no cars. Go , go. My dad went stiff. I did not stop staring at him I once again said everyone c’mon let's go there are no cars. My dad listened. He put his foot down and just as we came to the other side a lorry came speeding past and slammed into the side of us. They were all killed instantly. I got away with just a knock out a few broken ribs and a missing tooth. They were all gone. Now every time I get someone to do something for me I remember what happened and that’s why I do it so infrequently. I don’t want to hurt you guys.” He pulled out a photo in his back pocket of his parents and his brother. They looked like such nice people. By that point, we were all in tears.
We spent the rest of the day crying and mourning our families. The others helped me up and we made a small grave for our parents. I placed down in the hole a part of my charm bracelet my mum gave me when I was little. Ash took a handkerchief from her pocket. She unravelled it and it held a handful of ashes from her home and family. She took a pinch of it and sprinkled it over the grave .Flint took a small ring from his pocket and placed it ontop.it was his mother's wedding ring. He was going to place his fathers as well but he just couldn’t let it go. Sye stood there and did something I never thought he would do. He took a rock and cut his hand. Three drops of blood fell. One for each person. He said “this blood belongs to my mother and my father and my brother.” He took a step back.
People were so close to bursting into tears so I spoke softly “these were our closest friends. The ones we loved. We will never forget them but we will not let ourselves tarnish their names. Let it go down in history that these brave people have cared an loved us for as long as they were on this earth. They will never stop loving us and we will never stop loving them”
Ash took an old bit of wood and burnt into it ’ many people rest here the forbearers of the mystics the ones who started it all ’ Flint raised the grave and covered it in dirt and grew grass over the top and had seven primroses grow on top. One for each of the fallen. I couldn’t take it anymore. I burst into tears and in turn, so did the others.
This was the final resting place of the mystics. We all turned away and above the grave appeared something truly magical. One of my voids appeared. Around it was a ring of fire. It sang a silent song in our minds. The dirt pillars grew from the ground to surround it. We were all in awe. I asked, “ what do we call this?” Everyone had no idea but then a girl came from behind us all and said. Call It the elemental heart. She went over to the grave and placed an old photo then the elemental heart gained small cloud resting on the centre of the black hole. She was air!
