Chapter 20
Chapter 20
Sara couldn’t believe her ears. She had her doubts about how Selina would fare after walking out on the Harvey family. Considering Selina was one of them by blood–missing for twenty–one years and suddenly back–it would make sense she’d have a hard time cutting ties. The Harveys didn’t expect this drama, let alone Selina wanting it. But looks can be deceiving. Selina wasn’t just getting by, she was killing it, even teaming up with Lydia, whom Sara didn’t trust as far as she could throw. And to top it off, Selina had the guts to serve Sara a lawsuit threat.
“Selina, how did it come to this? You and Manuel are siblings, no changing that Ashley said. “Do you really despise me that much! Enough to hurt Manuel If push comes to shove, I’d leave the Harvey family..
Sara chimed in, “Ashley, stop your ranting. You’re an heiress. If you left, where would you even go!”
“Mom, I’m Selina’s flesh and blood, we’re both Harveys, but we lived in different worlds, Ashley said. “Ever since Selina returned, she’s been jealous of me, luating her own life. She’s the eldest. I’m younger. We’re both your daughters, but how did we get here? It’s just tearing me apan!” Ashley broke down, covering her face and sobbing, lier tears slipping through her fingers, looking utterly broken.
Manuel glared at Selina with rage–filled eyes. “Ashley Selina, you cold–hearted woman! Seeing Ashley’s tears, how can you not feel guilty!!”
Selina’s eyes were like ice. “This isn’t some soap opera, Ashley. Cut the act.”
Ashley’s sobbing intensited. She looked pitifully at Selina. “No, Selina, I didn’t mean.
“Forget it! The Harveys are like a trashy reality show, Lydia chimed in, rolling her eyes. “Tm gagging from the fake vibes in here. Good for you. Selina, for daching this circus”
Lydia thought she knew people, having seen all types. But Ashley’s act was next level–queen of drama queens. Her tears seemed engraved in her DNA. And Sara and Manuel! They were eating it up like it was prime–time entertainment. She started wondering how their family business survived with these brainless people running it.
Selina stayed silent: her face said it all. In the old days, the Harvey family played on Selina’s yearning for family love and knocked her down over and over. Now, she wouldn’t waste another tear on them. They weren’t worth it
“Officer, we’re not sending this privately. My lawyer will handle things from here” Selins stated firmly. “Let’s roll. Lydia”
Making gagging noises and waving her hand as if clearing the air, Lydia groaned. “Should’ve brought air freshener for this thick layer of fakery. It’s giving me nightmares”
As Selina walked away, Sara shouted after her, “Selina, are you really doing this! Going against your family, sending your own brother to jail?” Selina didn’t flinch. “You started this mess, and another thing. You guys are not my family. We’re done. My only real family, my sister, is right here with me.” Hand in hand with Lydia, Selina didn’t look back as they headed for the door.
“Selina… Out of the blue, Ashley bolted toward Selina, reaching out to grab her. But Selina was quicker, spinning around and delivering a sharp slap to Ashley’s face. The slap rang out, silencing the room.
The police station hushed like it was midnight in a ghost town Ashley’s cheek burned as she turned away, her eyes shook with shock. She had planned to come off as the sweet, concemed little sister trying to stop her big sis from making a huge mistake. Her goal: To paint Selina as the black sheep and shut the door on her coming back into the Harvey family. But Ashley never saw that slap coming. She was just about to
to say her piece.
“Oh, my bid, totally reacted on instinct. Felt someone coming at me and I thought, better safe than sorry.” Selina said coolly, flipping the script and calling it a “misunderstanding.” It was all because Ashley had to go charging at her.
“Ashley!” Sara quickly stepped in to protect Ashley and was just about to dress Selina down when a newcomer showed up at the door
“Babe, sorry I’m late. The deep, smooth voice washed over the room, a calm amidst the storm. Heads swiveled to Trevon, his chiseled features bathed in sunlight, making everything else pale in comparison. He eased up to Selina, slipping an arm around her shoulders with the tenderness of a devoted husband
Everybody had different thoughts going on in their heads at the sight of Trevon.
Lydia couldn’t peel her gaze of Trevon’s hand cozying up on Selina’s shoulder. ‘Man, remember your marriage is just for show! Act like it, will you? Keep this up and I might just have to start teaching you a lesson, she thought.
And Ashley, still nursing her cheek and biting her lip, uned to seem like she was fighting back tears while wrapped in Sara’s arms. But Trevon showing up threw a wrench in her scheme. Her tears kept coming, but her expression was pure shock, almost laughable.
Selina glanced up “Honey, why are you here?”
“I heard someone was giving my wife a hard time. I’m her husband, I gotta be here, Trevon said, putting their closeness on full display, and then shot a fierce look at Manuel and the rest. “Can’t the Harvey family take a hint! Selina obviously wants nothing to do with you. So why are you still all up in her business?”
