My (Monster?) Hero Life

Chapter 47: Tough Choice

His hands trembled as he sat there unmoving. He felt something rising up within himself. A cold rage. Almost strangely calm while still holding onto his thoughts calmly even though a voice was screaming "Kill them all!" in his head.

He could feel it. Something had snapped in his mind. He would never be the same as he had been again. Rising off the floor one final tear slid down his cheek. Falling onto the wooden floor as a final farewell for his friend.

His footsteps sounded heavier as he slowly walked the rest of the distance to the front door. If the paintings on the walls had been alive the people within would be running for a place to hide.

His very presence gave off that feeling of primal fear. Like when you are in a pitch black room and convince yourself you just seen something move out of the corner of your eye. Too afraid to look incase you really did see something.

Well, that was what was happening on the streets outside the mansion as he stepped outside. Whether they were a hero, a normal human or even a monster. None dared to look his way. A silent prayer was sounding in the back of their minds that he was not real.

As he walked past if any human accidentally got too close they were struck down on the spot. Causing panic within the allied forces ranks. As they tried to move out of the way of the path he was taken he would suddenly adjust it, just to make sure they did not escape him.contemporary romance

One brave woman finally snapped and attempted to strike him. However, with a cold in his golden eyes she froze in place as he released his aura.

'It's like standing at the peak of the coldest mountain without any protection!' her lips trembled and her face flushed with a red colour. Her arms went limp with the feeling of being helpless washing over her.

Kace continued his cold stare as he arrived before her. She dropped to her knees and kept shaking her head as if to to and deny what was going to happen.

"I'm sor..."

Splat! Kace swung his halberd with an incredible force. Using the flat of the head of the weapon as a hammer he turned her once somewhat pretty features into a meat paste. Further shocking those around him.

He was a calm, cold, murder machine as he passed unobstructed. Another hero was about to kill an orc before he could however a cold sharp spear protruded through his throat. Leaving him coughing and spluttering as he tried to figure out what happened.

It was of course an [Ice Spear] sent by Kace. The monsters and the allied forces were starting to realise. Since he had arrived not a single monster had been successfully cut down!

Meanwhile a few streets away...

"Durz!" Vaskra roared as pain entered her voice. Just hearing her wail would make you believe someone incredibly important had been lost.

Her eyes flashed menacingly, as her knuckles turned white as gripped her staff. Kharja's eyes turned bloodshot, the blood rushed to his muscles causing them to bulge. Roaring like a maniac as he charged at Sarah.

The warhammer he was carrying swung brutally at her. However with slow graceful movements she turned the force away from herself as she parried the blows.

Like a professional dancer she weaved around the lumbering orc. Inflicting small cuts here and there where his armour did not offer much for protection. With each new cut Kharja could feel his teeth grinding hard against each other.

Vaskra swung her hand. Attempting to slice Sarah in two with fast wind blades. With a bored look in her eyes her eyebrows only slightly frowned with annoyance as she easily used her flexibility to bend backwards to avoid the first, the air millimetres from her chin as it flew over her face. For the following two she she just had to casually side step them as they were sent in a vertical manner.

"This is too easy..." her melodious voice rang out lazily. She felt absolutely no pressure at all.

She reached out a single finger and pointed it towards Vaskra. The air around it became charged with energy. Right before a thin bolt of lightning raced out a breakneck speeds.

Vaskra's eyes went wide, a hint of hear could be seen within them. She did not have the time needed to prepare a defensive magic!

The smell of burning flesh permeated the air. Kharja groaned, raising one of his big hands to cover the hole in his waist. His other hand holding tightly onto Vaskra's clothes.

He had made it! If he let this annoying hag die he would not last in this fight. He was no match for Sarah physically so he was relying on Vaskra's magic to keep him in the fight.

A metallic object bounced on the road at Sarah's feet. Her eyebrows lowered creating two sharp arches as she glared at it. This was a mistake on her part.

It exploded to creating a blinding white flash! Temporarily blinding her. Her hand rose involuntarily towards her eyes. With the other visibly shaking as she held out her sword unable to tell where her enemies were.

Gyn laughed gleefully from the balcony of the building right next to the group's fight. Kharja had recognised the device and had covered both his and Vaskra's eyes before it went off.

Using this chance he lifted Vaskra and fell back. There was a too large a gap in strength between his group of three and this crazy female hero.

On the front lines...

Grugda was feeling the pressure! Phillip's fire magic was a bad match up for him. Although his earth magic could defend against it his magic that controlled the tree roots and such was completely useless.

Phillip would burn them to ashes whenever he would try to use them. Covering himself with an earth dome he broke apart one of the bones carried on his wait. Drinking the fluid within that would stop the bleeding and allow a few of the smaller wounds to heal.

The allied forces had launched their attack in the morning after Kace had been returned to them. Not once letting up their assault. He had lost count of just how many he had killed by this point however the toll was a heavy one.

He was almost running on empty as he was forced to deplete his mana each and every day. Not giving him the chance to recover at all. While the opponent he was facing had not stepped on the battlefield at all these past five days. Leaving him in peak condition.

The air turned red as a fresh wave of flames licked at his defensive dome. Noticeably melting the solid earth at a fast pace. Grugda used one of his bony hands to wipe the sweat from his brow as he continued to try and reinforce the dome with more mana.

Behind him lay the bodies of several trolls that had already suffered being cremated alive. The others were too busy giving their all to try and deny the ordinary troops of the allied forces from interfering with the fight at all.

At this point he felt his last bit of strength waning as the last of his mana was used up. The fire melted through the dome and rushed towards his defenceless body. Threatening to devour him...

A few minutes before both of these events...

Kace wracked his brain as fast as he could as soon as he read the message. There was a good chance he was going to have to sacrifice one of the group's as he could not immediately think of a way to save both at this moment in time.

'Damn it!' he screamed infuriated in his mind. Taking only moments to steel his heart before picking a direction and racing off with a new sense of urgency in his steps...
