Chapter 23
Chapter 23 Naive and Innocent
"I read the recommendations on the Internet. There is a local
restaurant with delicious dishes, but it's a bit far away. If we
go late, we have to queue up!"
In the past few years, Athena had been by Byron's side. Those people she had come into contact with were either scheming
or dissolute.
She hadn't seen someone as innocent as Gabe in years.
Occasionally, there was such a moment.
Athena seemed to have seen herself before the major change.
She was enthusiastic and sincere at that time.
"Okay, since I'm treating you to dinner, of course, you have the
final say on what to eat."
Athena nodded patiently as if coaxing a child.
Gabe was pleased.
Athena took her bag and went out with Gabe.
In the autumn, the streets of Salin City were filled with yellow leaves, making a beautiful scene.
Athena sat in the front passenger seat, listening to Gabe's joyful introduction to her about the passing attractions.
He seemed to have done a lot of preparation.
Athena was at leisure, and she didn't reply to him enthusiastically.
In Gabe's eyes, her gesture now was to his liking.
"After this intersection, there will be a traffic jam," said Gabe.
He saw a parking space on the side of the road and slowly
parked the car in. "Athena, what about getting out of the car
for a walk?"
"Sure." Athena was bored in the car, feeling a little
uncomfortable.
She always wanted to vomit.
Athena opened the car door and breathed in the crisp, chilly
autumn air.
The feeling of nausea disappeared immediately.
Her baby was considerate of her.
It was only when she was too emotional that she was prone to
nausea. Most of the time, she was not uncomfortable.
Gabe strode up to Athena.
They walked towards the restaurant side by side.
They were not aware, however, that they were followed, either
at a distance or near at hand.
Gabe made a reservation at the restaurant in advance.
They arrived at the restaurant. After waiting for someone to leave, Gabe went in with Athena.
The dishes at this restaurant were mostly beef and mutton.
It was a bit greasy.
Athena didn't have much appetite.
So, she didn't eat much.
On the other hand, Gabe, carefree, happily ate a lot.
It was a pleasant lunch.
The two walked to find the car.
In the middle, Athena answered two work calls.
The second pass was outrageous.
The other party was a general manager of a subsidiary of Imbe Group.
As the call was answered, he asked immediately, "Miss Newton, we can't get in touch with Mr. Crawford..."
Athena interrupted coldly, "Sorry, please call the Office of the President directly. I am no longer Mr. Crawford's secretary." The manager was taken aback.
He hastily said something and hung up the phone.
Gabe looked at Athena.
He couldn't help but say, "Athena, at the pier that day, a very strange woman spoke much ill of you to me!"
Athena glanced at him.
She then looked forward.
The autumn wind blew up a cluster of fallen leaves on the
ground.
ena asked,
"Forget it. It doesn't matter." Gabe wanted to slap himself. Everything was perfect, and he just heard her mention Byron. Why was he so talkative?
"Do you want to ask about the relationship between Byron and me?"
Gabe was stunned.
"Athena, I..." He was a little flustered.
In any case, it was a question of prying into others' privacy.
"I have indeed been with Byron for five years." Athena looked at Gabe, her eyes clear and her words frank.
Gabe was stiff for a moment.
Athena was not surprised at all.
She was not an innocent and naive girl.
Gabe was so attached to her. Was he willing to be her friend?
Moreover, she was pregnant.
She had no plans for a boyfriend.
Wealthy families were complicated.
She had witnessed too many tragedies during the last five years at Byron's side.
Nor was she interested in marrying into a rich family and living in misery.
