Chapter 2 Yes, You
But it didn’t stop Leo, he was way too curious to care about anything else.
What he just witnessed somehow defy the story about Susie, all the things of she living as a Buddhist, looking ugly and stuttering
when she speaks, he was told.
Were they all just rumors? She just talked to him without stuttering at all.
Leo walked up onto the stage quiet slowly, dying to see how things would go, while everyone else felt nothing but awkwardness.
And there came Susie’s voice again: “We shall continue.”
No way she has problem speaking, and her voice was like a nymph, Leo thought to himself.
“Well...” The priest was in a dilemma hearing the bride’s demand since he was invited by Xie’s family.
“It’s all okay, just listen to her.” Leo smiled to the priest and said.
“May I have your last name, sir? “Clearly the priest knew not who Leo was.
“Jiang, Leo Jiang.”
And the crowd went noisy again.
Leo Jiang, that’s hell of a big bell that rang in everyone’s head. As the leading family of the four families, Jiang’s family had been
keeping a tradition that each generation of theirs would have only one child, and till then it was Leo.
So how wealthy and powerful is Jiang’s family? It outplays all the wealth and prestige of three other families combined, and the
boss of the Chamber of Commerce is also Leo’s father, Zuwen Jiang.
It was unbelievable for everyone in the hall that it was Leo who just stepped up onto the stage.
But Susie seemed calm.
The priest could do nothing but resumed the wedding.
“Leo, do you take Susie for your lawful wedded wife, to live together after God's ordinance, in the holy estate of matrimony? Will
you love, honor, comfort, and cherish her from this day forward, forsaking all others, keeping only unto her for as long as you
both shall live?”
Leo thought about it for a few seconds:”Yes.”
“How can he...” Leo ‘s mother almost had an heart attack seeing her son messing around the wedding.
It was unreasonable to Xie’s family, but they didn’t make any sound since it was all their fault. It was their child running away
from the wedding anyway, not to mention the news on the screen.
The priest turned to Susie and asked: “Susie, do you take Leo for your lawful wedded husband, to live together after God's
ordinance, in the holy estate of matrimony? Will you love, honor, comfort, and cherish him from this day forward, forsaking all
others, keeping only unto him for as long as you both shall live?”
Susie’s answer was immediate: “Yes.”
“Father, we pray for all married persons, that they may continue to give, be able to forgive, and experience more and more of the
joy of the Lord with each passing day. Let’s all make a toast and congratulate the couple.”
It took around three seconds for the applaud to come, apparently everyone was still not sure what just happened.
“Darling...what’s...” Mrs. Hua was nearly speechless.
But Josh was surprisingly calm. He comforted his wife:” Easy, this is a great deal for us. Think about it, that Danny is just a
spoiled silver-spoon youngster, and Leo is the only son of Hua’s family who’s going to inherit all the wealth. We hit the jackpot
this time.
Caring about pros and cons of the marriage instead of his own daughter’s happiness, true it seemed unreasonable, but that’s
what people called the upper class.
And the priest spoke again: “Leo, you may kiss the bride.”
It sent shivers down Leo’s spine even though he had seen it coming: It was his first kiss, first kiss after more than twenty years
having no intimate interactions with girls.
