Chapter 49
Chapter 49
"Uh..." Cole understood what Jasper meant despite his unfinished sentence. Once he thought of asking Bradley to wake Esther up, his temples throbbed. "It's too difficult."
"That's why..." Jasper said sadly, "To a man who doesn't love her, anything she does is wrong. Her life was unworthy of mention to him."
"I'll try." Cole sighed and said warmly, "I'll try to persuade Mr. Warner."
Jasper took a deep look at Cole and said slowly after a while, "Esther said she has no friends, but if you ask me, you're her friend too."
Cole smiled awkwardly. He was not.
If he had treated Esther as a friend, he would not have hidden the fact that her daughters were still alive for five years. How many five years would one have in life?
Esther's most beautiful youthful years had been spent in prison. If he had defied Bradley's orders and disclosed to Esther that her daughters were still alive, she might have been released sooner. She might even have been able to see Thomas for the last time.
The small decision Cole had made had changed Esther's entire life.
"Cole, this is the hospital under the Warner Group, so you must be more familiar. Could you introduce a caregiver to take care of Esther?" Jasper coughed lightly and said with careful consideration, "It's not too appropriate for me to do it since I'm a man."
"Okay, leave it to me," replied Cole.
He got the list of caregivers from the hospital logistics department. All caregivers who worked in the private hospital under the Warner Group had obtained a professional nursing certificate and had undergone various checks.
After all, the patients in this hospital were either rich or powerful. It would not be good if anything went wrong due to the caregiver's behavior.
Cole selected a female caregiver who was friendly, capable, and had a lively and cheerful personality for Esther. After arranging everything, he was about to go to Bradley when he suddenly remembered the call he had received from the head of the laboratory.
He took a detour to the laboratory.
The head of the laboratory greeted Cole when he saw him from afar. "Mr. Johnston, you're here!"
Cole smiled gently and said, "Sorry, something came up suddenly and took some time."
"Look at you. You're the busy man around Mr. Warner. I certainly can understand if you have official duties," the laboratory head said, handing two brown paper envelopes to Cole.
"This one contains what you gave me, and this one is for Mr. Warner."
"Okay, thank you." Cole took the two brown envelopes for DNA paternity testing. "I'll buy you a meal another day."
"I'd want good food," the laboratory head said with a smile.
Cole also laughed heartily, saying, "Surely enough food and alcohol."
"Okay, let's drink and talk then. You go ahead and carry on with work."
"See you around."
After bidding farewell to the head of the laboratory, Cole took the brown paper envelopes and entered the elevator, intending to go to the parking lot. As he was about to press the elevator button, he thought of the envelopes in his hand.
After some thought, he pressed the button for the underground parking lot instead. He found his car and unlocked it, then bent down to keep the DNA paternity testing envelope with his surname in the car's password box.
He turned on his phone, intending to call the director of Sunflower Welfare to ask some questions, but he thought it was too late and decided to visit the welfare home himself tomorrow.
Cole picked up another DNA paternity testing envelope and walked into the elevator from the underground parking lot.

Bradley returned to Felix's ward with some chilliness from the rooftop. The boy was watching The Avengers with Clark.
