My Hunted Mate

Chapter Sixty Six

Corinna

Rushing through the house, I grab a blanket that was thrown across the arm of the sofa, wrapping it around me while making my way through the house and upstairs.

Along the way, we pass Sabine, Lila and Dahlia who fall silent at the sight of me speed walking past them in a panic and Phoenix following quickly a few steps behind.

* Corinna? What's wrong? " Lila's soft, feminine voice calls out, the concern is clear in her tone, but I find myself unable to answer her, I take note of their footsteps joining along side Phoenix's as I move quicker throughout the different floors of the house.

After what feels like hours, I finally reach the bedroom door but as I push it open my senses are overwhelmed with a mouth watering scent and that hunger is back without sparing a second.

With each breath I breathe, my fangs extend further, I feel my eyes change and the veins return and in a flash I'm across the room, tackling Jack to the ground and sinking my teeth into the veins on his neck, gulping down mouthfuls of his blood, I barely process Gia's loud horrified scream echoing off the bedroom walls.

Phoenix shouts something from behind me but it is completely drowned out by the sound of Jack's slowing heart rate, the brief subconscious thought that I am taking his life sounds in my mind, but I am unable to stop, each time I take a mouthful of blood, I promise it's the last only to take another.

Suddenly I am being tackled and pulled away from Jack by multiple hands, I struggle against them, blood running down my face and dripping from my fangs. " Corinna! You need to listen to me! * Dahlia shouts, but her voice only angers me and gives me the strength to push the people restraining me off.

As I charge across the room back to my food source, I hear Sabine pipe up, my movements falter * Corinna, you have control over this. You need to take a step back and remember that you are feeding on a person, an innocent person.

" He's not innocent! " I growl. " He trapped my mother, experimented on her for years and then called Cain on me! *

" Well what about Gia, she's innocent and this is her mate. Don't allow her to lose her other half as you did. " She argues, this brings me to a complete stop, I glance over at Gia who is sobbing uncontrollably and pressing herself up against the wall.

" You don't want to do this in front of your little boy, look at him, look at your son Cori. " Sabine continues, my eyes snap from Gia to the bassinet next to her.

My feet move cautiously toward where my son lays, the moment my eyes meet his blue-grey ones, my face returns to normal and tears cloud my eyes. I turn back toward where I dropped the blanket on the floor, gently retrieving it and wrapping it around me again.

Sniffling lightly, I hesitatingly pad across the room to Elias. Gia shuffles further away with the closer I get, until finally she sprints across the room to her mate. In the background I can hear Phoenix feeding Jack his blood to heal him and Gia crying.

But all I can focus on his the tiny person in front of me, as I lean over and gently take him into my arms. Tears pour out of my eyes as I watch him look up at me and gives me a smile, kicking his legs out as he takes a hold of one of my fingers and brings it to his mouth to use as a dummy.

Eventually I turn back around to everyone, they watch me cautiously as I take a step toward Gia and Jack. " I'm so sorry. " I whisper. * I don't know what happened, I'm so sorry. "

I go to move closer, but freeze when Gia begins to scream at me. * No! No! You stay away!

" Gia, she didn't know what she was doing. She hasn't even been turned an hour, she needs to learn. * Phoenix tries.

"No! " Gia growls

" Control is hard, even I couldn't- " Lila starts, but she gets cut off.

"1 said No! " Gia growls much more furiously. " We are going home and I never want to see your fucking demon faces again! *

" G- " Jack goes to speak but has the same luck as everyone else.

* Jack, don't you fucking dare. " She glares at her mate, wrapping her arms around herself as she walks toward the door, shooting all of us hateful looks as she exits the room.

Jack turns to me. " 1 won't hold it against you, I never did apologise for what I did to you and your mother, so I guess in a way I had it coming. He sends me a weak smile, following after Gia without letting me reply to him.

My thoughts begin to spiral as soon as the bedroom door shuts behind them, my brain sending me into negative and self hateful headspace faster than anyone could blink. I always had a thing about taking innocent lives, it's why I couldn't leave Gia to be killed, the same with Lila and the other humans she had been captive with, but now, I was no better than Maria, her brother, Cain or my father.

"1 know what you are thinking right now. " Lila whispers, snapping me away from my negative thoughts, her shy nature still present as she speaks. " You think you're just as bad as anyone else who has no problem taking someone's life, the people who would have taken yours but that's not true, the difference is that you didn't take a life and more importantly you feel remorseful about nearly doing it. *

Not replying, I take a couple of minutes to allow her words to process and I repeat them over and over again trying to convince myself of their truth. The silence that had taken over the room is cut short when Darius knocks on the door at the same time as he pokes his head inside the room.

"1 really hate to do this right now, but we have a situation in the basement.
