Chapter Fifty Nine
Corinna
"I'm so sorry, I got here as quickly as I could. " Jen tells me as she and her coworkers burst into the bedroom and rush to my side to check up on my wellbeing, making sure everything is as it should be, before moving to then check how dilated I am after hours of contractions.
My body already feels exhausted despite not having even started to push yet, so when I hear Jen announce that the time is getting close, I can't help but be relieved.
True to her word, fifteen minutes later, Jen tells me I'm ready to start delivering my child into the world. Kai stands beside me, holding my hand tightly and doing his best to whisper soothing words to me as I start the process of pushing.
The process feels like it takes years, my hair is damp with sweat, my body is weak and exhausted and the pain has me on the brink of defeated tears, until I finally I hear the loud wailing cries from my child and Jen say; " It's a healthy little boy! Congratulations. Would dad like to cut the cord? *
My body falls slack as I watch Kai nearly stumble toward where Jen is holding our tiny baby, his eyes are wide as he looks at him, only drifting away when he's giving the scissors and shown exactly where to cut.
Kai comes up next to me, as Jen wanders off with my son. Kai pushes my hair away from my face softly and plants a kiss on the top of my head. " I guess we argued about girls name for no reason then. " he chuckles.
"1 guess so. " I tell him weakly. " Where's the baby? "
" Jen is just getting him cleaned up, he'll be with you in just a minute my darling. You did so great. " He whispers to me, running his hand through my sweaty hair repeatedly.
After what feels like forever, a nurse walks over to me holding my son wrapped in a little blue blanket with a white cotton hand on his head, she gives me a warm smile as she places his small body into my arms carefully.
The nurse mumbles a wish of congratulations then wanders off, leaving the three of us in our own little bubble. As I look down at my son's face, I can't seem to pry my eyes away, as a burst of completely joy and unconditional love courses through my body.
" Hello my little man. * I mumble to him, softly running my thumb against his cheek. " I'm your mama. "
" What should we name him? " Kai whispers, no doubt just as entranced by our child as I am.
" How does Elias sound? " I mutter, a smile making its way to my face as my son lets out a soft yawn.
" Elias... I like it. " Kai tells me.
" You want to hold him? " I ask, for the first time removing my eyes from Elias to look up at Kai.
A nervous look crosses his face, but he sends me a smile regardless, taking a seat on the bed next to me and holding out it arms, I gently pass Elias to him, reminding him softly to support the babies head.
The next few hours are spent gushing over our son, me sleeping while Kai keeps an eye on him and waking me when the baby needs to be fed, due to my choice to breast feed making him unable to do that himself.
Jen comes to check in on us a few times, the first time to get our son's name for his birth certificate, but mostly she leaves us to ourselves. While I'm feeding Elias, Kai goes to get his little bassinet to set it up next to our bed, since he's too small to go into his nursery straight away.
Just as Kai finishes setting up the bassinet and I finish feeding Elias there is a knock on the bedroom door, when it pushes open, my eyes fall on Phoenix, Sabine, Darius, Mateo, Gia and Alpha Jack all trying to peering in the door at the same time.
"Come in. " I chuckle, nodding them into the room. " I didn't know you guys were here. " I say to Gia and Jack.
" Jen told us that you were going into labour and I had to come and meet your baby. " Gia smiles, linking her hand with Jack's who gives me a small nod and smile as a greeting.
They all shuffle further into the room, they're gazes falling on the baby in my arms. " It's good to see you. " Kai tells Gia and Jack as he sits down next to me, then he turns his head toward me and our son. " Everyone, meet Elias Orion. "
Our friends continue to gawk at the baby, as if they don't know what do to, until Phoenix snaps out of it, rushing forward, pushing the group out of his way with his arms out and a big grin showing off his perfectly straight teeth. " I'm the uncle, I get to hold him first! Come to uncle Phoe, Elias! "
Once Phoenix sits down, I hand Elias over to him, making the huge man chuckle. " Dahlia is gonna be so jealous I got to hold him before she did. " He sings, a large petty smirk replacing the grin on his lips, making me roll my eyes.
Kai chuckles, shaking his head at his sibling. " Idiot. " He whispers with a fond smile on his face.
The bedroom door swings open, causing everyone to snap their heads in that direction to see Rhys, standing in the doorway with a look of panic on his face. " They're here. " He rushes out, his eyes wide.
"Who? " Sabine questions, immediately straightening up in a defensive stance.
" The wolves. " He informs us, I push myself to sit up further in the bed, my gaze landing on Elias, anxiety coursing through me.
Phoenix notices me staring at my son and he passes him back to me straight away. Kai curses under his breath, dragging a hand through his hair.
" Get everyone ready. " He says.
Sabine, Mateo, Rhys and Darius nod their heads, quickly exiting the room to alert everyone in the clan. Jack shares a short glance with Gia before he speaks up. " We'll help. We have a handful of warriors with us and Garrett.
" Thank you, we'll owe you one. " Kai holds out his hand.
Jack takes his hand, but shakes his head. " Think of it as us repaying a favour. *
They begin to exit the room, but I reach out grabbing onto Kai's arm. Wait, I'm coming with you. *
