Chapter 5
Chapter 5
Christopher turned to look at Dennis. An hour ago, the wealthiest man in Jadeborough had exuded the aura of a mighty king, earning the admiration of the Murrays. However, the tears running down his face at present made him appear nothing like someone of his status.
"Why are you crying, Mr. Hubbard? Can't you see that I'm well?" Christopher looked at the other man's tear-streaked face and could not help but feel helpless.
"I... I feel sorry for you, Mr. Yaeger. You must've suffered a lot during your time as a soldier all these years. Never did I expect the Murrays to bully you when you returned. Don't worry, Mr. Yaeger. I'll make sure those sc*mbags pay for it!" Dennis exclaimed angrily at the thought of the incident with the Murrays previously.
Five years ago, Christopher came to Jadeborough alone. Afraid of prying eyes around himself, Dennis had entrusted him to the Murrays. Five years flew by, and the latter was pleased to see that the once inexperienced youth had transformed into the strongest warrior.
"I'll handle this matter myself, Mr. Hubbard. You don't have to intervene anymore. I truly did not expect you to come in person and cause such a huge stir. After all, you're the wealthiest man in Jadeborough. It's all Lupine's fault. He's too rash!" Christopher said in a low voice.
"You can't blame Lupine for this. It was my own idea. Ever since you became a soldier, I've considered all possibilities. I haven't seen you for five years. If it weren't for Old Mr. Yaeger, how could I have become the wealthiest man in Jadeborough?" Dennis replied in an equally low tone.
As soon as Dennis mentioned his grandfather, Christopher felt extremely sad. It's been five years since Grandpa passed away, and yet, I haven't even been able to return to Yaleview all these years, let alone visit his grave.
"Is my sister... all right?" he asked softly.
Despite having not returned for so many years, Christopher was aware of some matters that happened in the Yaeger family afterward. During the five years that he was expelled from the family and went to serve as a soldier, it was his elder sister, Lynette, who slowly took on the leadership position of the family.
"Ms. Yaeger is doing well and has often asked me about you all these years," Dennis assured.
Christopher nodded in response. He felt a little guilty that Lynette was supporting the entire Yaeger family on her own.
"When do you plan to return to your family, Mr. Yaeger? With your current status, who among your family members would dare to underestimate you?"
At the moment, Dennis was filled with pride. After all, Christopher had risen to become the leader of Draco Battalion, which was not only the best special forces squad in Chanaea but also among the top in the world.
Christopher took a deep breath before muttering, "I still have my own matters to settle, so I need to remain in Jadeborough."
"That's great! Let me take good care of you," replied Dennis excitedly as his lips curved into a warm smile.
"Please don't reveal my identity for the time being, Mr. Hubbard, as I also don't want my family members to detect my presence," Christopher requested.
"Don't worry about that, Mr. Yaeger. Oh, right! That Cordrington brat truly doesn't know his place. I'll get someone to teach him a lesson." Dennis' face darkened the moment he brought up Jared. Christopher scoffed inwardly. I can't believe Jared dares to bully me and wants to use Cordrington Corporation to intimidate me. He's downright laughable!
"I have no interest in Jared. What I want is the demise of Cordrington Corporation. I want him to experience the feeling of falling from the peak into the abyss," he remarked.
Dennis could not help but chuckle upon hearing that. This is how a Yaeger should act. "Rest assured, Mr. Yaeger," he said with a smile.
Christopher nodded before instructing, "Oh, right, Mr. Hubbard. Please also help to investigate my father-in-law's company and try to keep a low profile."
"Understood, Mr. Yaeger!" Dennis smiled.
With the wealthiest man in Jadeborough attending to the matter, Christopher naturally did not need to worry about anything.
He then informed with a smile, "All right, Mr. Hubbard. I'll take my leave then."
"Let me drive you back, Mr. Yaeger," Dennis offered.
However, Christopher shook his head. "No need for that. If I allow the wealthiest man in Jadeborough to send me back, it'll draw too much attention. I'll go back by myself." "I'll walk you downstairs then, Mr. Yaeger," Dennis said respectfully.
Just as Dennis was sending Christopher off, a middle-aged man in casual clothing got out of a Maybach some distance away. He looked up and was so stunned by the scene before him that he dropped the document he was holding.
The driver beside him followed his gaze and saw a young man in a worn-out military camouflage uniform walking side by side with an old man, who later watched as the former got onto a bus. "Quick, Jim. Drive and follow that bus," the middle-aged man said excitedly.
Puzzled, Jim asked, "What's gotten into you, Mr. Santos? Isn't that just a soldier? We've made an appointment with Mr. Quimby, and it's almost time."
"You know nothing. The meeting with Mr. Quimby is nothing compared to this!"
At that moment, Truman Santos could no longer express his astonishment. Although he did not know the soldier, he knew very well who the elderly man was. That's the richest man in Jadeborough, Dennis Hubbard! A terrifyingly influential figure!
However, he could not believe that he had just witnessed Dennis respectfully sending off the camo-uniformed young man. Not even the mayor of Jadeborough could receive such treatment and get so much respect from him! This shows that the young man's status is beyond ordinary!
"Keep in mind that if you lose him, I won't let you off."
Jim was shocked and frightened by Truman's words. Although I've worked for Mr. Santos for many years, he has never said such grave words. That alone shows how terrifying the young man's status must be. "Don't worry. It's just a bus. I won't lose it," he assured confidently.
After all, I'm driving a Maybach. If I lose sight of a bus, I can truly change my profession.
At that moment, Christopher did not even think that there would be a car following behind him.
The address Julianna gave him was located in Nirvana Residence.
The residential area had been around for many years, with outdated facilities and narrow roads. The second month after the death of the old patriarch of the Murray family, Fabian had driven Frank's family away to this place.
Christopher got off the bus, and after asking a woman at the entrance, he went straight in from the side door. Upon noticing Christopher getting off the bus, Truman hurriedly said, "Quick, keep up."
"The road here is too narrow, Mr. Santos. The car can't get through!" Jim said anxiously.
"How could you fail me at such a crucial moment? Stop the car. I'll hurry over myself."
Meanwhile, in Nirvana Residence, Christopher had just arrived downstairs when he saw Frank being pinned against the wall while Julianna and his mother-in-law, Cindy Zimmerman, were blocked by several burly men. They were even preparing to touch Julianna, causing her to tremble with fright as she screamed, "What are you doing? Stop that!"
The onlookers, on the other hand, stood watching at a distance.
Christopher's face instantly darkened. Immediately afterward, he rushed over and kicked away the big man touching Julianna before standing in front of her. "What are you doing? Is there any law and order here?" he bellowed.
Julianna was momentarily stunned when she saw him and felt a little touched. However, the feeling was soon replaced by intense worry. Would anything change because Christopher's here? Can I hope for him to repay the debt? He has just been discharged from the army. Even if he has money, it would only be one hundred thousand at most. But our family owes them millions!
After the hooligan who was kicked to the ground got up and saw Christopher wearing a camouflage uniform, he knew that the latter was a soldier and immediately shouted, "D*mn you, soldier! Trying to be her knight in shining armor? It's none of your business, so stay out of it!"
"I'm the son-in-law of the Murray family and her husband. Touch her, and you'll regret it," Christopher warned icily.
"Look! The missing son-in-law of the Murray family has come back after three years."
"What's the point of him coming back? What kind of future can a soldier have? I heard that the Murrays' company's equipment wasn't up to standard, causing the other company to lose millions!" The neighbors around here all knew what had happened to the Murrays and immediately started talking about it.
"D*mn, you're crazy! You think you're so great because you're a soldier? I've had my fair share of beating up soldiers."
However, just as the hooligan was about to make a move, he was stopped by a brutish man who appeared to be their leader. He looked at Christopher mockingly before saying to Frank, "Frank, I had already softened up just now and was about to give you a few days. However, your son-in-law hit one of my men. Do you think I'll still be lenient to you?"
As soon as Frank heard this, he quickly tried to please the other man. "My son-in-law is ignorant, Mr. Cadwell. Please just let it go. How dare you hit Mr. Cadwell's subordinate, Christopher? Aren't you going to kneel and apologize?"
"Let me handle this matter, Dad." Christopher naturally wouldn't apologize to the hooligans.
Cindy, on the other hand, had been complaining about Christopher all these years for wasting three years of her daughter's life. She originally had hopes that he would attain a successful career before coming back but never expected that he had gone to join the army.
In this day and age, only incompetent people become soldiers!
Now that he had been discharged from the army and was even causing trouble for them, she immediately roared, "Handle it? Rubbish! Who do you think you are? Why are you acting cool when you're just an army veteran? Do you think you're still in the military camp? Apologize to Mr. Cadwell right away!"
Julianna felt uncomfortable hearing her parents reprimanding Christopher in such a manner. After all, this matter has nothing to do with him. It was Uncle Fabian's family who sabotaged us. She hurriedly said, "Mom, Christopher is here to save us."
"Do we need his help? Mr. Cadwell has just promised to give us a few more days. If he's truly capable, he'll help us pay back the money. Hasn't he been discharged from the army? Doesn't he have money from leaving the army? Take it out!" Cindy shot Christopher another glare. In her opinion, he was nothing but a good-for-nothing soldier.
Stanley Cadwell did not force Christopher. After all, what can a mere soldier do? I have two or three soldiers among my subordinates. Aren't they all treating me with respect now?
He immediately shouted at Frank, "Take out the title deed of your house now, Frank!"
"Mr. Cadwell, our house is worth at least two million, but we only owe you more than one million!" Julianna immediately bellowed.
"Huh? Who said that your family owes us one million? Your unqualified equipment has caused the loss of our company's reputation. Am I supposed to just let that go? Moreover, your husband beat up my subordinate, causing me physical and psychological trauma. It's all money. Is it too much to ask for a house?"
Stanley scoffed. In any case, this house will surely be mine today! Moreover, after acquiring the house and finding a real estate agency to sell it to, I can also probably earn a few hundred thousand. He was secretly delighted at the thought.
"Let them go, Mr. Cadwell. I'll go with you and find a way to repay the money." Christopher did not wish to reveal his identity in front of everyone. Otherwise, with just a phone call, Stanley and his subordinates would meet their deaths without even knowing it!
"D*mn! The nerve of you to act cool in front of me. You're just a retired soldier. If you have true capabilities, why bother becoming a soldier? You should be a wealthy boss instead! I can't believe there are still idiots joining the army in this day and age!" Stanley exploded with rage upon hearing Christopher's words.
"I think you truly have a death wish!"
Christopher was instantly infuriated. I can't believe that when I was still wearing a military uniform and protecting the country, these sc*mbags dared to humiliate us soldiers. If the enemies at the borders saw his current grim expression, they would have been scared to death, as they could lose their lives any minute.
Just then, an angry voice sounded. "You're all stepping out of line. Is there any law and order here? Should you dare to beat someone up, I'll have you all in jail. Also, how much does he owes you? I'll pay it back."
After saying that, a middle-aged man who was sweating profusely hurried over, grabbed Christopher's hand, and shook it tightly. "I finally found you," he uttered excitedly.
"Who the heck are you?" Stanley thought that the middle-aged man was also a good-for-nothing when he grabbed Christopher's hand. However, he turned pale with fright in the next second as the man was none other than Truman, the big boss of his company!
