Chapter 42
Chapter 42 It Is Not A Mistake
Since the majority claimed that Amanda had announced it wrongly, Jared presumed that was the case, and his expression became more relaxed at that thought.
It must be so. After all, nobody will actually pick a dormant company as its project partner! With only a starting capital of a hundred thousand in paper, can it even be considered an operating company? Gradually, Jared became more confident. He grinned coldly in the direction of Christopher. "I'm sorry, but you're doomed. Don't even think about another comeback. All right, Ms. Clark and Mr. Davis, the show's over. Please go ahead and announce the actual results."
Daniel urged, "Ms. Clark, you must have gotten it wrong just now, but it's okay, let's correct it."
"I was mistaken? Announce the new results? What do you take Centurion Corporation for? Did you think that the Cordringtons have any authority over us and that you could simply make up your rules and give us instructions as you wish? Do the Cordringtons own Centurion Corporation? Do you want to acquire us then?" Amanda went ballistic on stage and retorted fiercely.
Thereafter, the entire hall fell into total silence. With Amanda's status in Centurion Corporation, her words and presence were not merely her own. Rightfully, she represented the company's general manager as well as the company itself!
Her words and the manner they were spoken sent a cold chill down Jared's spine, giving him an attack of the wobblies. He realized that not only had he lost the tender, but he had also offended Centurion Corporation and was literally digging his own grave!
Horror-stricken, he started fretting as though he had ants in his pants. "Ms. Clark, that's not what I meant. I, no... I wasn't... Oh, Mr. Davis, please explain on my behalf."
Daniel froze, not knowing what to do next. This isn't how things should be unfolding. I was engaged in a conversation with Ms. Clark just moments ago, and I remember bringing this matter up to her. I told her that I've shortlisted Cordrington Corporation, to which she agreed. How come...?
"Ms. Clark, is there any miscommunication between us?" Daniel asked anxiously.
"Shut up! You're not in any position to doubt my decision." Amanda did not give him a chance to speak further. Turning to gaze at Christopher, she smiled and said, "I'm sorry for the ruckus raised, Mr. Yaeger. Without further ado, can we have your presence on stage? Sorry for taking up your precious time, and I hope that the unexpected fiasco won't affect you in any way. We'll proceed to sign the contract shortly." With that, Amanda concluded the matter and sealed the deal.
"You're right. I'll never get to experience what it feels like to be at the top." Christopher smiled and left Jared with that.
As Christopher strode toward the stage under everyone's gazes, Jared's face burned red with embarrassment. He had not learned from the past lesson. Instead, he was defeated once more. It was certainly unpleasant to shoot himself in the foot and taste his own medicine.
The most infuriating thing for Jared was losing to Christopher, a man he assumed to be a nobody.
Ironically, the man without any money, resources, and connections won the tender.
Apart from a few words of thanks, Christopher did not cover much in his speech. "I'm grateful that Centurion Corporation has given Julianna Corporation a chance and bestowed us with this great opportunity to work together. We will work hard to achieve our goals. Thank you all, especially Mr. Jared Cordrington."
Jared nearly burst a blood vessel in annoyance. Why the hell does he need to mention my name specifically?
"Well said, Mr. Yaeger. Next, let's head to the back and get the papers signed officially," Amanda said gently. She was all smiles, utterly different from how mad she was earlier.
Those reporters who hurled insults at Christopher just now were all in a frenzy. A shell company with a starting capital of a hundred thousand? How could Centurion Corporation decide to pick them as their partner?
"Hi, Ms. Clark. I'm a reporter from Jadeborough TV. I'm wondering if there's a misunderstanding because I'm not able to understand why a shell company qualified in the selection." A reporter could not wrap his head around the announcement made.
"Exactly! Is there any bribery going on behind the scenes? I hope not," someone else chimed in.
Upon saying so, the individual felt that something was amiss. Judging from the amount invested into his shell company, Christopher is obviously a poor man. If a bribery has taken place, it would most likely have involved Jared instead!
"After the contract signing ceremony, I'll explain all the details and answer your questions one by one," said Amanda calmly in hopes of pacifying the guests.
Then, she turned to Daniel and commanded, "Mr. Davis, do tag along and be present throughout the contract signing process."
As Daniel trailed behind and made his way to the room to follow through with the legal process, he was still very much in a blur. He was not quite sure what was truly going on as it was his first time facing such a bizarre situation.
However, he managed to get a grip on himself soon, thanks to all his years in the business industry.
No matter what, I'm a manager at Centurion Corporation. What's the big deal if a retired soldier signs a contract with us? He's going to work under me in the near future, isn't he? Can a contract change the fate of a shell company? Nope, not at all. Christopher can never escape my control. I'll get to bully him as I please!
You punk, just wait and see how I'll spice things up for you soon. A malicious intent glinted dangerously in Daniel's eyes as he thought to himself.
Little did he know, Christopher was the real chairman of Centurion Corporation!
