Chapter 98
In the living room of the Jenkin Family, Lucy and Mrs.Jenkin sat face to face.
Hearing the sound coming from the entrance, Lucy hurriedly stood up and looked at Kayden, who had just entered the door,
"Kayden, you're back.''
She reached out to pick up Kayden's luggage, but he avoided her and pushed her to the side of the servant.
Lucy looked down at her empty hands and clenched her hands.
Although he had returned from JH City, his attitude towards her seemed to have turned cold again.
On the sofa, Mrs.Jenkin looked at the scene in front of her and suddenly said, "You go up first.I have something to say to
Kayden.’’
Knowing Mrs.Jenkin’s temper, Lucy breathed a sigh of relief. She smiled, and walked to the second floor.
"Did you give up on running to JH City all of a sudden?" Mrs.Jenkin said, her stare could only be described as cold.
Kayden closed his eyes and sat there.
He rubbed his eyebrows exhaustively, not answering.
"Father will announce your engagement on his 70th birthday next month.Prepare well.Don't let anyone laugh at you.”
"Mom!" Kayden suddenly opened her eyes.
"I said it's impossible to get engaged to Lucy.’ Mrs.Jenkin sneered, "If you're not engaged, are you afraid that Kayleigh and the
others won't be able to catch you?"
She also didn't like Lucy, but she couldn't watch her son continue to disobey his father and the other members of the Burks
Family take advantage of him.
"Kayden, what kind of good place do you think the Jenkins Family is? Not to mention that Anika is already married. And even if
she is not, do you think that she will want you back? Anika is not stupid!"
Mrs.Jenkin was exhausted, and no one understood it better than Kayden.
She and her husband had affections for one other, but when they were pitted against each other, that feeling went away.
Her husband was too ruthless.
She hoped that the son she raised would be different, but Kayden was also too ruthless.
Even though he had repeatedly refused his father's engagement request, he still couldn't bear to drive Lucy out of the house,
who had fallen out with the Cooper family.
At the corner of the second floor, Lucy heard Kayden's long silence and clenched her teeth.
During this period of time, she tried her best to please Mrs.Jenkin and Kayden, but her relationship with them was still bad.
She didn’t understand why Anika's existence was still blocking her path, making her unable to live a good life.
Kayleigh made an appointment with his friend to go out today, but just as she pushed open the door with her bag, she saw Lucy
standing at the corner.
"Are you hiding here to eavesdrop, expecting that my brother would let go of you this time?" she said abruptly as she
approached Lucy with her arms crossed.
Lucy's body trembled slightly.
When she turned around, her expression had returned to normal.
"Kayleigh, Anika and your brother have already broken up.There is no need for you to be hostile to me anymore. We can clearly
get along well"
Kayleigh scowled and said, "Get along well? I'm sorry, Lucy, but I'm not sure what you're talking about.Do you want a man who
doesn't care about you and competes with Anika in every way? Aren't you exhausted?"
During this period of time, Lucy was not at ease in the Jenkin Family.
Just currying favor with was enough for her.
She clearly had a huge sum of money left behind by Elliot, but she insisted on investing and starting a business, not afraid that
she would lose all her money blindly.
However, all of this was requested by Lucy.
Whether Lucy genuinely adored her brother or merely desired Mrs.Jenkin’s identity, Kayleigh thought she was weary enough to
make her dream come true.
Seeing that Lucy's expression was very ugly, Kayleigh didn’t wait for the other party to reply.
He chuckled and carried the bag downstairs.
Lucy quietly looked at Kayleigh's back and stood at the stairs for a long time before she breathed a sigh of relief and returned to
her room expressionlessly.
Thinking of Kayden’s silence and her last words, she took out her phone and dialed.
"Owen, who was is the person you mentioned last time?"
As Kayden went upstairs, Lucy heard footsteps and opened the door, stopping him in the corridor.
"Kayden, even you want to throw me away?"
Kayden looked at her indifferently.
His voice had already lost its usual gentleness.
"You said that Owen had been pestering you and you begged me to not kick you out.Lucy, I gave you one last chance.I thought
that you would refuse the engagement arranged by Grandpa, but did you accept it?"
Everyone thought that he didn't have the heart to drive Lucy away.
However, the truth was that after Robert's funeral, she promised him that she would help him deal with Philipp temporarily and
refuse to get engaged.
Philipp, Kayden's grandfather, had always valued promises.
Although Robert's instructions before his death were due to misunderstanding the relationship between Kayden and Lucy, Philipp
still insisted on fulfilling his good friend's wishes.
Philipp took charge of his affairs and both his son and Kayden had always followed whatever he says.
Kayden knew that if he does not do anything about the engagement, he won't have the the right to beg for Anika’'s forgiveness in
the future.
If he wanted his grandfather to completely change his mind, he could only let Lucy give up on her own.
He wanted Lucy to stay, but he also wished to resolve this matter as soon as possible.
However, what Lucy had done during this period of time was not merely temporary, but had put him in an even more
disadvantageous situation.
"I did, but that's only if Anika will change her mind"
Lucy grabbed his sleeve and said, "What about now? Anika won't come back to you! She's already married!"
If Anika had been by his side, he wouldn't be like this.
"Kayden, let go.She doesn't love you at all."
They were in a relationship for twenty years, but he clearly cared about Anika more than her.
‘‘I had put in all my effort, but why don't you give up on Anika and be with me instead?’’ Kayden's eyes were cold.
After pausing for a while, he laughed self-deprecatingly, "Because I still love her.Even if she doesn't look at me, what reasons do
you have for me to let go of her?"
After saying that, he pushed her hand away and closed his eyes.
"I owe you and Gavyn everything, but I owe her, too."
Anika had the right to punish him.
However, when she swore that she loved Zac, Kayden felt a stinging pain sweeping through his heart.
The boundless bitterness drowned him, she only coldly watched him sink into a surging emotion and refused to help him again.
Anika had never even said that she loved him, but she had told him so casually that she was in love with someone else.
Kayden had too many people and things to take into account; parents, relatives, friends, work.
They were the best working partners, and she never asked for anything, making him feel like he could keep her by his side until
the end.
But in the end, she was gone.
It was him who wasted Anika's efforts, didn't know her hidden feelings, and allowed Lucy and Gavyn to do that behind his back.
These were all the debts he owed her.
Kayden will take the blame, but he would not forgive Lucy and Gavyn for their betrayal.
Still, that won't be enough.
They should suffer as well and experience the pain he is in now.
Lucy wanted to say something to explain, but when Kayden opened his eyes again, they were bone-chilling cold, freezing her
entire body.
Kayden had never looked at her with this kind of gaze, and there seemed to be an indelible hatred in his eyes.
Lucy did not know what had happened to him when he returned to JH City, causing him to suddenly become like this.
Lucy unconsciously let go of his hand, and when she regained her senses, Kayden's indifferent figure had already disappeared
from the end of the corridor.
Returning to his room, Kayden took out his phone and habitually opened FaceGram.
On the homepage, there was only one concern.
He created a new anonymous account.
This was the only way he could get close to Anika during this period of time.
Anika's account only focused on market news and did not post much.
But, just now, she posted a photo with no accompanying text.
In the photo, there was a bouquet of flowers next to a tombstone.
Kayden did not want to think about whether Zac was with her the moment she took the photo.
Knowing that she was angry because of what happened, Kayden waited at the corner of the hotel corridor the next morning to
apologize to her, even though his legs hurt because of standing for a long time.
However, what he saw was an extremely dazzling scene.
Zac calmly embraced her and the two of them walked out of the room together.
After taking a few steps, the man smiled and turned his head to her side.
He pinched her chin and bent down to kiss her.
The corridor was too quiet.
Kayden stood at the corner and could even hear the rustling of their clothes when they kissed.
In the end, her face turned red and her eyes were filled with passion.
She only glared at the man beside her with reproach.
At that moment, Kayden felt the rationality in his mind collapse and was about to go crazy.
