Chapter 45
The weekend passed and Monday arrived again.
It was almost time to get off work.
Just when Anika finished looking at the capital flow expenditure of the North City Project that Peter had sent over, she received a
phone call from Zac.
The man spoke concisely, "The parking lot."
"Why are you here so early today?"
Anika glanced at the lower right corner of her laptop.
There were still ten minutes left before it was time to get off work.
Although she didn't have to watch the clock, leaving early would give her employees the wrong impression.
On the other end of the phone, Zac chuckled and replied, "Didn't I say that I wanted to accompany you back to the old house? I'll
wait for you for a little longer."
On Wednesdays and Fridays, Anika would return to the old mansion to chat with her grandfather.
If Zac wasn't busy, he would also tag along with her.
Last week, she hurt her foot.
She was afraid that her grandfather would be worried.
She only called a few times and did not go there personally.
After she hung up on the phone that day, Zac suggested that he would go with her back to the old house when her foot is almost
healed.
It was only because she had been too busy recently that Anika forgot about this.
After hanging up the phone, she simply packed her things.
After packing her bag, she got off work at the same time as her staff and then got on the elevator.
She then proceeded to the parking lot.
The old house was in the east of the city, not far from the company.
A Bentley slowly stopped at the courtyard entrance of the old mansion.
Anika and Zac got out of the car together.
The pain was unbearable for Old Master Meyer.
He had to take a lot of painkillers every day and spend most of his time sleeping.
During this period of time, the old man's body became even more frail, and he couldn't even get off the bed.
Anika was vaguely prepared, but contradictorily did not want to let herself think about what had yet to happen.
She dissipated the disappointment and walked into the living room.
Anika immediately saw Oliver and Lucy sitting on the sofa.
The medical cooperation plan he got from Kayden had to be put on hold.
Oliver restrained himself a lot during this period of time.
On the other hand, he didn't bother Anika in the company.
Before the construction of the North City Project, he secretly wanted to do something, but Peter found out that he only came to
the old mansion to deceive the old man.
Anika was not surprised by his actions.
In Oliver's head, only by taking advantage of the last moment to please the old man would he be able to benefit from him.
Oliver's ability to do business was not outstanding.
Previously, it was also the rumor that Kayden had a deep affection for Lucy, which made the Cooper family feel reliant on him.
But now ...Anika glanced at Lucy.
The other party was a lot haggard, and her cheeks were so thin that it couldn't even hang on to her flesh.
She relied on her thick makeup to look normal.
Anika withdrew her gaze and did not greet the two people in the living room.
She handed the things she brought over to Boris and said, "Boris, is Grandpa awake?"
"He's awake. You and President Hill can just go straight up.Mr.Thomson is also talking to the Old Master."
Anika nodded and took Zac upstairs.
Every time they came to the old house, they always pretended to be closer.
The door of the room was open, and the old man was lying on the bed, his wrinkled face showing that it was timeworn.
The silhouette became thinner and thinner.
Scott sat by the bed, peeling the apple quietly.
Anika pursed her lower lips and knocked on the door.
She smiled and called out, "Grandpa, Uncle."
Zac calmly sized up the atmosphere in the room and greeted him.
"Nika is here."
The old man's smile was somewhat weak, his eyes were chaotic, and his voice was hoarse.
"Scott, do you think Nika has gained some weight recently?"
Scott looked at Anika and Zac, who were standing side by side, and nodded, "Maybe a little bit."
Hearing this, Zac chuckled.
He lowered his head and said indifferently, "Nika has indeed eaten a lot lately."
After saying that, the man raised his eyebrows and pinched her plump cheeks in front of his grandfather.
Anika blushed, not knowing how to react.
In the past, she did not eat dinner, but when she lived with Zac, she started to pick up on his habits of eating dinner..
Because of this, she had gained a few pounds.
This was a good thing in the eyes of the old man, but Anika was a little embarrassed.
"It's good to put on a little weight.Nika, I want to talk to Scott about something.Take Zac outside for a walk first."
It seemed to be personal.
Anika did not ask any further and nodded in agreement.
Then, they turned around and went out, closing the bedroom door.
When they went downstairs, Oliver and Lucy were no longer in the living room.
Anika thought that the two of them should have returned to their rooms.
That's right, she had to maintain her courtesy on the surface in the old mansion, and she didn't want to meet anyone.
Passing by the kitchen, Anika caught a glimpse of Boris helping Aunt May deal with a large basket of water chestnuts.
She let go of Zac's hand and entered the kitchen.
"Boris, do you need help?"
Boris smiled and waved his hand, "No need, no need. This thing is sharp.Miss, don't hurt your hand."
Zac leisurely followed behind Anika.
Hearing his words, he saw Boris’ hand that had been stabbed with a red dot by a diamond horn and said in a clear voice, "I'll do
it."
Before Boris could refuse, he had already taken the stool and sat down calmly.
Boris saw that Zac seemed to be somewhat interested, so he couldn't speak anymore.
He didn't want Anika to follow him.
He turned around and said, "Miss, why don't you go to the attic and get a box to pack the water chestnuts?"
Anika smiled and nodded.
As he turned around, he glanced at Zac, who was learning how to peel the chestnuts from Aunt May.
The man's eyebrows furrowed slightly.
He lowered his head and drummed the water chestnuts with a focused expression.
His movements were clumsy but eager.
She shook her head, not knowing why this person was interested in the water chestnut.
Anika followed Boris’ instructions and went to the pavilion where the debris was piled up to pick up a clean carton filled with
water chestnuts.
Unexpectedly, the moment she came out, she was blocked by the people waiting at the door.
"Cousin, I want to talk to you."
Lucy deliberately waited for her.
She really had something to talk to Anika about.
But just as she finished speaking, she couldn't help but clench her hands when facing Anika's radiant face.
"Now that my reputation is ruined, are you happy?"
Anika shook her head with a chuckle and knitted her brows, "It was all because of you.It has nothing to do with me."
Of course, she could not say whether she was happy or unhappy.
Even though Lucy was her blood cousin, they did not grow up together.
They only spent three years together under the same roof.
Anika did not treat the Cooper family as relatives, nor did she waste her emotions on unrelated people.
"Nothing to do with you? If it wasn't for you, how could Kayden turn a blind eye on what happened?"
Lucy bit her lower lip as if she was irritated by her indifferent expression.
Kayden ignored her and asked her to come to Anika, but how could Lucy lower her head and plead in front of Anika? She hoped
that Kayden would always be soft-hearted and sympathize with her by settling the scandal.
However, he was actually so ruthless, watching him as he fell for someone else.
Lucy had never thought that Kayden would do this to her one day.
"Lucy, let me remind you again that I have nothing to do with Kayden. No matter what he does, he doesn't have the right to drag
me into it."
Anika looked at the other party's unwilling eyes and said coldly, "Lucy, let me tell you again, I have nothing to do with Kayden."
"But then again, if you can shoot without thinking about shortcuts, you won't end up like this."
Back then, it was Lucy who insisted on entering the entertainment industry. If she could get more results these past few years,
her career wouldn't have turned out to be sour.
"Alright, even if Kayden has nothing to do with you now, what about Zac? If it weren't for him, I wouldn't have been dragged down
by Shawn!"
Lucy hates Anika's lofty posture the most, and then mocks, "You look down on me so much, but aren't you also relying on men?"
Hearing her say that the person who attacked Shawn last time was Zac, Anika's expression was slightly shifted.
After a while, she chuckled again. "If you think so, then so be it. Zac is my husband. I don't have to refuse his help, nor do I want
to leave him alone just because of a few words from you."
