Chapter 770 A Casual Drink to Lift the Spirits
Chapter 770 A Casual Drink to Lift the Spirits
After all, Violet's temperament was considered reserved and slow to warm up.
Especially when it came to matters of romantic relationships.
Thus, impatience wasn't advisable.
Colin chuckled at those words and didn't continue the topic any further.
Eating barbeque was all about the lively atmosphere.
Midway through the meal, Colin suggested having some beer.
He called it "a casual drink to lift the spirits."
Upon hearing the idea of drinking, Faye didn't react much on her end. She simply mentioned that she wouldn't drink, as it would be more convenient for her to drive later.
Violet glanced at Ethan and Colin. After considering for a moment, she said, "My tolerance for alcohol isn't very good."
Colin's eyes held a hint of a smile and he said, "Ethan, Ms. Rowan isn't very good with alcohol..."
He remained composed and said, "Don't drink that much then."
After Ethan spoke, Violet pursed her lips and nodded, "Alright, I'll drink a little then."
Violet indeed had a poor alcohol tolerance.
After a few glasses, her face began to turn red.
As she continued to drink, her eyes became unfocused, locked onto Ethan's hand holding a cigarette without moving. Faye was the first to notice Violet's abnormal behavior. Violet appeared quite gentle and cute when she was drunk. Especially given her already gentle appearance, she seemed more captivating now.
Colin raised his eyebrow at the scene and asked, "Are you still going to drink?"
Ethan set down his glass and replied, "No."
Colin chuckled lightly, "I'll go settle the bill."
While Colin was saying that, he stood up and walked out. He gave a subtle glance to Faye before leaving.
Understanding his signal, Faye picked up her coat and left after him.
Once they left, only Ethan and Violet were left in the room.
Violet's wine glass had been replaced with a glass of juice by Faye. She held it with both hands, not drinking or moving. Ethan snuffed out his cigarette between his fingers and spoke in a deep voice, "Are you drunk?"
Violet shook her head and replied, "No."
"Try to have some juice. It might help."
Violet looked bewildered. Upon hearing Ethan's words, she lowered her head and took a sip of the juice.
After a while, Violet suddenly realized something and abruptly stood up. She was intending to leave.
Ethan's Adam's apple bobbed. He reached out, gripped Violet's wrist, and firmly pulled her into an embrace.
Despite being somewhat intoxicated, Violet still had some consciousness. She placed her hands on Ethan's shoulders, her eyes reddened and she said, "Et... "Brother Ethan."
Ethan responded in a low voice, "Why are you running away?"
"I... I'm not running away. I'm... I'm going home."
Ethan asked, "Without me, how are you going home?"
As he finished speaking, Violet's hands resting on Ethan's shoulders tightened slightly. She pursed her lips and remained silent.
The two of them stood in that deadlock for a few minutes. Ultimately, Ethan gave in. He raised the hand on Violet's lower back and lightly patted it twice while saying, "Let's go. I'll take you home." After leaving the room, Violet's drunkenness subsided quite a bit.
It was a little cold after the rain., so Ethan took off his suit jacket and draped it over her shoulders.
"Thank you," Violet said and then hesitated before adding, """Brother Ethan.""""
Ethan stood in the night's darkness, his eyebrows slightly raised, and his expression was unreadable. He didn't say a word.
Brother Ethan?
Was that a subtle way of reminding him of their relationship?
The two stood on the steps in silence when Faye's car pulled up from the parking lot.
Ethan opened the car door for Violet, and they got in.
Faye looked at Violet through the rearview mirror, and smiled as she asked, "Does the alcohol wear off?"
Violet nodded and felt a bit embarrassed.
Faye turned her head back, adjusted the steering wheel, and continued, "Violet, I saw earlier. Your limit with beer is around four bottles. It's best to keep it within three bottles. When you're out in the future and don't have familiar people around you, try not to exceed three bottles."
A warm feeling spread through Violet's heart. She said, "Okay, thank you."
Faye grinned and replied, "We're all family here, no need to thank me."
As Faye finished speaking, the two exchanged a smile through the rearview mirror.
An hour later, Faye parked the car at the entrance of Ethan's villa.
As Violet was about to get out of the car, she lightly patted Faye's shoulder and said, "Send me a message when you get home to let me know you're safe."
Faye turned her head, smiled, and replied, "Sure thing."
Violet smiled in return and then got out of the car.
In the foyer of Ethan's villa, Violet was bending down to change into slippers. She had just taken off one high heel when her body tilted, nearly causing her to fall. Seeing that, Ethan quickly extended his large hand and hooked it around Violet's waist from behind to support her.
Violet instinctively struggled, and Ethan held his breath. He said in a hoarse voice, "Don't move."
His voice was deep and restrained.
Violet took a sharp breath and her body trembled slightly. She didn't dare to move again.
Both of them were adults, and Violet was well aware of the physiological reaction a man might have in such a situation. Because she knew it, the ambiance became even more awkward.
The two embraced in that manner for a while. Ethan's deep voice broke the silence as he said, "Can you stand?" Violet's face turned crimson, her ears were burning too. She answered, "Yes."
"Stand properly. I'll let go."
"Um." As Violet finished speaking, Ethan released his grip from behind.
In the next moment, before Violet could catch her breath, Ethan took a wide step past her and walked upstairs.
Seeing that Ethan was leaving, Violet pursed her lips again.
Now she was completely awake from the effects of the alcohol.
Violet was lost in her thought when her phone on the hallway cabinet vibrated twice. It was a WhatsApp message from Faye, "We're home."
Violet replied, "Good, rest early."
Faye responded, "You too. Good night."
Violet continued, "Good night."
After a few seconds, Violet sent another message to Faye, "Did Ethan have any girlfriend before?"
Faye was about to take a shower, and upon hearing the phone rang, she lifted her gaze while holding her sleepwear. She glanced at Colin and said, "Violet is asking if Ethan has ever had a girlfriend before." Colin chuckled and was about to respond but Faye's phone notification sound rang again.
Faye playfully lifted her eyelids, and a deeper smile formed. She said, "Violet says to ignore that last message."
Colin clicked his tongue in amusement.
Faye smiled and said, "Everyone goes through this kind of phase before falling in love."
Colin asked, "What phase?"
Faye responded, "Being in a tangle."
Because of the uncertainties, everything got tangled.
Violet leaned against the foyer cabinet and she felt regretful. Her phone vibrated again. Faye's message appeared on the screen, "No. Hasn't Ethan told you?"
Violet stared at Faye's response and pursed her lips into a straight line. She chose not to reply.
Ethan had indeed told her, but she didn't believe it.
How could someone as outstanding as him have never had a girlfriend?
Since Violet didn't reply to her text, Faye didn't ask about it any further.
After Faye finished her shower and came out, she saw that Violet still hadn't responded. Wiping her damp hair, she smiled and turned to Colin, "I think there's something between Ethan and Violet." Colin got up to grab a hairdryer and said, "With Ethan's attitude, it's hard for Ms. Rowan to have a peaceful mind."
Faye grinned and agreed, "That's true."
After Faye finished speaking, Colin came over with the hairdryer.
Faye turned around and presented her back to Colin to make it easier for him to dry her hair.
Seeing that, Colin curved his lips, and before turning on the hairdryer, he lowered his head with a low chuckle, "Honey, have you noticed you're getting lazier these days?"
Faye, who was sitting cross-legged on the bed, tilted her head to look at Colin and asked, "Is that bad?"
Colin bent down and kissed the corner of Faye's lips. He said, "No, I didn't say it was bad."
"I think it's pretty good." After Faye replied, she comfortably let Colin dry her hair.
As her hair nearly dried, Faye received a WhatsApp message from Rebecca.
Faye reached out to her phone and glanced at the message. She couldn't help but burst into laughter.
Rebecca said, "Tonight, my dad will be keeping Mr. Carter company in bed."
