Chapter 389 Two-Faced Jamie
Chapter 389 Two-Faced Jamie
At three o’clock in the afternoon, Freya awoke, sensing a significant improvement in her physical strength. However, her body was still sore with pain from her injuries.
She got up and decided to watch a DVD to pass the time. She picked an old classic, “The Silence of the Lambs.” As she watched, the protagonist described the taste of human liver with an unsettling relish. She wrinkled her brow and glanced at the collection of DVDs, all with dark and heavy themes. The unsettling. content made her switch it off.
Suddenly, there was a knock on her door. A voice announced, “Miss Kaufmann, I’m coming in.”
When the man entered, Freya recognized him as the person who had taken a gun from the flower bed. outside the Kaufmann Residence and asked, “What do you want?”
The man’s expression remained stoic. “It’s time for your outdoor break.”
She couldn’t help but feel like she was being treated like a prisoner. She reluctantly followed the man, hoping to gain insight into her current situation and where she might be. Following the man down the long corridor to the deck, she noticed a weathered table from a cargo ship nearby, filled with food and snacks.
Now dressed differently in a loose white vest that revealed his muscular chest, Jamie sat at the table with a commanding presence.
At that moment, she clenched her teeth and felt a strong urge to toss this man into the sea as shark bait.
Just as she simmered with anger, he looked at her intently, flashed a sly smile, and said, “Miss Kaufmann, would you like to chat?”
Suppressing her anger, she walked over and sat across from him. Her eyes drifted toward the sea, attempting to deduce their location based on the wind and temperature.
However, Jamie broke the silence and said, “After you passed out yesterday, we left Caltun and hopped onto a speedboat along the river to reach Sapphire Bay. Then, we went ashore, bypassing all the surveillance cameras through Thornwood Grove. Finally, we arrived in Eldoria and departed from Harbor Haven Dock.”
Freya suddenly turned her head, finding him still wearing that smile as he gestured toward a nearby island. “See that? That’s Shadowcloak Isle.”
Still, she remained silent.
He flashed a confident and ruthless smile. “I know you’re smart. You’ve been looking around, probably trying to figure out where you are. Let me tell you so you don’t have to figure it out yourself. If you want to escape, following the route I just mentioned, it might be difficult for me to find you. But those three people, I will slowly kill them and let you watch.”
-Freya’s expression turned cold. “I didn’t plan to escape, Mr. Fraser. You don’t have to worry.”
The smile on Jamie’s lips faded slightly as he looked at Freya coldly. “Why the sudden formality?”
“Do you deserve me calling you that?” she said lightly as she picked up a pastry from the table and took small bites. She hadn’t eaten for almost a day and night and needed to regain her strength.
He looked at her and asked, “Hungry?”
“I’m fine.”
“What do you want to eat?”
Freya said, “Steak.” She knew having meat would quickly restore her strength.
Hence, he glanced to the side. “Monkey, tell the kitchen to prepare. I’ll stay here with her.”
Monkey responded and left.
At that moment, her mind raced as she contemplated her options. She couldn’t help but wonder if she could use Jamie as leverage to save the lives of the three people held captive with her.
Then, he glanced at her and shifted his gaze toward the beautiful sunset over the sea.
Later, Monkey led two chefs to the table. As the chefs placed steaming steaks in front of them, their hands. trembled noticeably.
Freya glanced up at the chefs and couldn’t help but frown. She noticed that both of them had injuries on their faces. “Did you also kidnap these chefs?”
Jamie responded casually, “Yes, they are here to cater to our esteemed guests.”
She couldn’t help but curse inwardly at his despicable demeanor. Then, she shifted her attention to the table as more dishes were brought out, her eyes falling on the gleaming cutlery before her.
The chef standing next to her leaned in and introduced the dish in a hushed tone, “This is the pan- seared scallops with caviar-”
At that moment, her hand instinctively reached for the knife..
Jamie raised his eyes, a fierce and ruthless look in them. “Miss Kaufmann, I don’t like being disturbed during dinner. You better think carefully.”
Her fingers stiffened upon hearing that.
“Although your resistance is futile against me, it will sour my mood. And when that happens, these exquisite dishes will lose their luster, and those chefs might find themselves at the bottom of the sea.”
She looked up at him and gritted her teeth, unable to contain her anger. “Do you truly hold human lives in such low regard?”
He picked up his knife and fork, saying, “You misunderstand. I value life, just not others’ lives.”
They finished their meal silently, and Freya refrained from making impulsive moves. She had no idea about Jamie’s capabilities and knew that if she couldn’t match him, the chefs would pay the price.
After dinner, he stood up and ordered, “Take Miss Kaufmann to her room.”
Monkey approached from the side, and she tried to stand, but her legs gave way.
Jamie smiled knowingly. This drug was developed in Dumford a few years ago. You won’t feel its effects if you don’t exert force. It later became one of the banned substances.”
She pursed her lips, thankful she hadn’t acted earlier. His caution sent chills down her spine. She realized a man devoid of compassion, meticulous and ruthless, was the most challenging to deal with.
After returning to her room, Monkey left.
At eight o’clock in the evening, he knocked on her door again, bringing late-night snacks and DVDs.
Freya narrowed her eyes at a hidden camera in the ceiling corner, then browsed through stacks of DVDs. She settled on “Shaun the Sheep” and started watching, mulling over her plan.
With Lucius and the other two captives also on board, Freya knew it was crucial not to provoke Jamie. She had been drugged earlier, making force impossible, and holding anyone hostage was not an
option. Her only choice was to wait until they reached their destination, which Jamie had mentioned as Floravalea. With her mind set, she watched the animation until she fell asleep.
The next day, the weather cleared up, and Freya was taken to the deck for fresh air. The food was great, offering both local and foreign options. Jamie never showed up, but she always felt unseen eyes upon her.
Two days later, the cargo ship docked at an empty port. From the deck, Freya surveyed the desolate scene. Finally, Jamie emerged, smiling, and handed her a small capsule, urging her to take it.
Glancing past Jamie, Freya noticed Lucius and the others held by Moonblade, who displayed a stern expression, a gun peeking from her sleeve. Freya took the capsule and swallowed it.”
