Chapter 189
Chapter 189
Before Pearl and Lindsay could approach Carson Woolery for a hug, a Lamborghini sports car drove up from not far away.
Hubert got out of the car and took off his sunglasses. Upon seeing Carson, he was both surprised and delighted. “Mr. Carson, it’s really you. I heard that you were in Nanston, and I was about to set up an airtight net to catch you.”
After not seeing Carson for a few years, he still looked healthy. He had gained more silver hair on his head, and his face had deeper lines. When he smiled, he appeared benevolent, but his stern expression could be intimidating.
A smirk played on Carson’s lips, and he shot Hubert a glance. “What nonsense are you talking about? Be careful, or I will use this pipe stem to spank your behind.”
He pulled the pipe stem from his waist and raised it for emphasis.
Hubert was unafraid and approached with a cheerful demeanor, “Well, well, you’re still using this old tobacco pipe. It’s been so many years. I’ll gift you a new one later.
“You don’t understand a thing. Carson said, swatting away Hubert’s hand. There was a hint of amusement in his raised eyebrows. “I prefer old things and can’t get used to newfangled stuff.”
Hubert laughed heartily. “Alright, you’re an expert in gemstone carving and antiques. I won’t question that.
“But what about your outfit? It looks like an antique too, all tattered. If I didn’t know you, I’d think you were a beggar. If I had some cash on me, I’d offer you a couple of banknotes.
Carson harrumpled. “Aren’t you all using QR codes to pay for things these days? Let me have my granddaughter sew a code on my clothes, and you can come to scan it.”
Hubert chuckled. “Alright, no problem.”
Mason and the bodyguards on the side listened with astonishment.
To be honest, looking at this old man dressed in simple clothes, tattered shoes, and clutching a cigar, he looked like a rough old man from the 1980s.
They could hardly believe that he was Carson, the father of Ken, Ralph, and Errol, and the grandfather of Pearl, Tina, and Lindsay, also known as Carving Carson.
For those who didn’t know better, they might mistake him for a beggar.
Lindsay finally snapped back to reality and went up to Carson with excitement in her eyes. She leaned forward and hugged Carson, “Grandpa, where have you been these past three years? We couldn’t find you anywhere.”
Carson naturally softened his expression when talking with his granddaughter.
“My clothes are dirty, I don’t want to soil your beautiful dress… As for me, while I still have agile legs. I’ve been traveling far and wide, he explained.
The latter half of his sentence appeared to be directed specifically at Pearl. When their gazes met, he inexplicably felt somewhat timid.
Pearl responded calmly. “Is that so? You’re not deliberately avoiding me?”
“Of course not.”
Carson retorted with his head held high, “You’re my granddaughter, why would I want to avoid you? That’s impossible
Mason said, “Ms. Woolery, the sun is quite scorching today. Let’s head inside to chat. We had to chase down Mr. Carson for three blocks. We’re fine, but we’re worried that he might get tired, and heatstroke wouldn’t be good for him.”
A moment of silence fell over the scene.
Seeing Carson’s awkward expression, Hubert couldn’t help but chuckle.
Pearl gazed at her grandfather with a cold expression
“Why are you being a troublemaker, young man?” Carson asked, his voice full of playful sarcasm.
He then pretended to beat Mason and said in mock frustration. “I was walking along peacefully, but you all insisted on chasing me so I had to run, and now I’m all sweaty”
Mason muttered, “It was you who started running, and we chased after y
you.”
was another pause in the conversation.
Carson appeared ready to erupt, but Hubert quickly intervened, saying, “Alright, alright. This topic is like debating whether the chicken or the egg came first–it won’t lead to any conclusion.”
Turning his head to look at Pearl, who stood with an uncertain expression, he urged and said, “Pearl, what are you waiting for? Hurry up and bring your grandfather home.”
Pearl was about to approach Carson and invite him inside. However, he dodged to the side. “No, I’m not going in!”
With a look of resistance, Carson squatted against the wall again.
Everyone exchanged glances. Farlier, Mason and the others had tried to coax Carson into the Rose Garden to rest, but he refused to enter. Consequently, they had no choice but to accompany him outside the Rose Garden.
Observing Carson’s determined resistance and refusal to enter, Hubert couldn’t understand the situation. He noticed Pearl’s face turning as calm as a lake, which made him worry that the girl might soon become furious.
“What’s going on, Carson? Why won’t you go inside? Hubert asked.
He also squatted down and tried to persuade him nicely. He pointed at Pearl.
“This girl misses you every day, and it’s not easy for you to come back. Let Pearl take good care of you. Go home, take a shower, have a good meal, and get a good night’s sleep. It will be so refreshing. You haven’t tasted Pearl’s cooking in a long time, have you?”
When he said this, Carson’s mouth went dry, and he couldn’t help but purse his lips. He truly craved Pearl’s cooking.
However, Carson continued to resist. “I won’t go in.” He touched the pipe stem as if he intended to smoke another round. He did not dare to look up at Pearl’s expression. “If you miss me, just take a good look at me now, and I’ll head back to my place after I finish this pipe.”
Pearl’s expression darkened as she asked, “Where are you going? Do you have a place to stay in Nanston?”
Carson’s neck stiffened, and he replied, “Of course!”
Mason took a quick glance at Carson and then turned to Pearl, saying, “Carson is referring to a thatched house next to a farm. It’s in terrible condition, and it used to be a place for keeping mules.”
Pearl’s turned colder as she exclaimed. ‘Grandpa!”
Carson shuddered. “Oh, you startled me. Why is your voice so loud?,”
Meeting Pearl’s cold gaze, Carson stammered, “What’s wrong with the hut? I’m living quite well. Some poems used to live in huts and successfully composed famous poems. Besides, who said that a place with mules can’t be lived in?”
Pearl’s eyes were slightly red, and she decided not to entertain his excuses. “Kurt”
Kurt appeared promptly, as if out of nowhere,
Pearl commanded, “Bring Grandpa back home.”
Kurt responded with an “Understood” and immediately lifted Carson in his arms.
Carson was still in his squatting position and was so surprised by the sudden lift. “No, I said I won’t go in…. Despite his resistance, he was carried into the Rose Garden.
Help!
Listening to Carson’s pitiful cries, Hubert couldn’t help but laugh, saying, “Carson is getting more and more spoiled as he gets older. You’re just like him. It’s no wonder, as you grew up under his care.

He raised his hand and playfully rubbed Pearl’s nose, to which Pearl wrinkled her nose and replied, “I’m much more obedient than him.”
Enough already. When you both get mischievous, it’s maddening.”
Seeing Pearl was about to become angry, Hubert hastily said, “Alright, now that we’ve found him. I’ll take my leave. It’s been a while since you’ve seen each other, so have a good chat. Don’t make Carson angry”
Pearl nodded.
Once Hubert left, Pearl turned around, looked in the direction of Rose Garden with a glint of determination in her bright eyes, and called out. “Lindsay.”
Lindsay, who had been somewhat startled by the situation, responded, “Yes?”
Pearl’s lips curled into a gentle smile. “Come and help. We’re going to have a grand feast tonight!”
