My Ex-Boyfriend’s Brothers: Chapter 28

I stepped out from behind Luke and forced a sweet smile. “Oh, hello, Mr. Heath. Funny running into you here. Is Sharon around? I haven’t seen her at the lodge with Brad so…”

Luke gripped the back of my neck in a possessive move that his dad definitely noticed. “Maggie and I were just out for a hike. I thought we’d have privacy up here.”

“Obviously. I guess I should be grateful you’re not flaunting this tryst in front of your brother. He’s got enough going on without having to see…this.” He motioned at me with a flick of his wrist that somehow summed me up as trash in one small motion. “Sharon won’t be happy. Thank god she isn’t flying in until the day before the wedding.”

I stiffened and looked up at Luke. “I should go.”

He searched my face and then turned a dark scowl at his dad. “It wouldn’t make a difference to me if Brad, or Sharon, saw us. They ’ll notice at some point or another when I’m with Maggie from now on.”

“Oh, come on, Lucas. Bradley went through this phase because he was young and dumb. You hardly have that excuse. Let the girl go back to work.”

I felt so small under his unhappy gaze. I wrapped my arms around my waist and sent a pleading look Luke’s way. “Please, Luke.”

He let go of my neck just to grab my hand. “I’ll come with you. I don’t want to stay here anymore than you do.”

“Lucas.”

“You should be grateful she’s here or you’d be getting ripped a new one right now.” Luke let me go and stepped closer to his dad. Talking under his breath, he tried to keep me from hearing the rest of what he said but I caught it anyway. “You need to remember who signs your checks. Hurt her and you’ll find yourself struggling to keep yourself afloat.”

I started walking down the trail, pretending like I hadn’t heard the last part of his threat. He caught up to me in seconds and held my hand again. I couldn’t look at him. His dad had succeeded in reminding me of my place that easily.

“Goddammit, Maggie. Stop and look at me.” When I didn’t, he put himself in my way and refused to budge. “Unless you want me to lose my fucking cool and go back to throw my dad off a cliff, you’ll look at me, Maggie. Now.”

Slowly looking up, I met his hard gaze. “I just want to go back to the resort, Luke. I don’t want to talk about it. Please.”

He blew out a sharp breath. “Alright. I can’t argue with you when you say please like that. This isn’t over, though, Maggie.”

I had to bite my lip hard the rest of the way back to the resort to keep from crying. It was embarrassing that the judgment of a mean old man could leave me in shambles but it hurt my feelings how easily he hated me. I was a likable person and I tried to make sure I was kind to everyone. None of that mattered to Mr. Heath, though. To him, I was just never going to be good enough.

Before we reached the lodge, Luke pulled me to a stop and wrapped me in his arms. “It won’t happen again.”

I let out a bitter laugh. “Yes, it will. He hates me. Do you know that when I was first with Brad, he tried to give Brad money to leave me over and over again? The only reason Brad didn’t was because he knew he could keep getting money from your dad with the promise of leaving me.”

“He’s an asshole, Maggie, but he won’t act like that to you again. I’m going to make sure of it.”

“By threatening to take away his money?”

He sighed and glanced away. “Yeah, Maggie. If I have to.”

“He’s your father, Luke. Even if I’m not his biggest fan, I can’t let you do that.” I saw him start to argue and pressed my finger over his lips. “He’s your father. I’m…me. I’m just the woman you’re sleeping with. You can’t-”

He nipped at my finger and then leaned down to kiss me hard. “I can do whatever I want. You’re not just the woman I’m sleeping with. You’re Maggie. That means something. Jack and Ryan would agree.”

I groaned. “I’m sorry. I don’t want to make this a big thing. Let’s just forget it.”

He kissed me again and started walking me backwards. “No. You’re going to learn how much you’re worth and learn that men like my father are so much less than you. We’re going to start right now.”

I tried to look behind me to see where we were going but he growled at me to keep my eyes on him. A shiver of awareness traveled down my spine. “What are you doing?”

“I told you. We’re going to work on how you view your worth.” Luke grinned down at me when my back hit the solid wall of one of the outbuildings and I gasped. “Let me make something very clear to you, Maggie.”

I swallowed as he went to his knees in front of me. “What are you doing, Luke?”

“You should be worshiped for your body alone. You’re a goddess. You’re so much better than men like my father, men like Bradley. You’re better than men like me, too, Maggie.” He pressed his mouth to my stomach and gripped the top of my leggings. “Now, let me worship you.”

I looked around wildly, terrified that someone would see us as he pulled my pants down but there was no one and we were off the trail. “Luke! You-”

He pulled my panties down with my leggings and pressed his face into me. “Fuck, baby. I could live on my knees for you, as long as you keep these sweet thighs open.”

I was so exposed when he shoved my clothing off my right leg so he could spread me open and take a lick. I moaned and my head fell back into the metal building at my back. The sound was shockingly loud but Luke didn’t seem to care.

He hooked his arm around my thigh and held my sex open so he could take long, wet licks. His eyes traveled up my body and I watched as he saw me looking at him. His grip on me tightened and growled into my clit before lifting his mouth and licking his lips. “That’s right, Maggie. Watch me worship you until you come on my face.”

I forgot everything but him and when I did come, I could only believe that what we were doing was right. Nothing wrong could’ve ever felt that good.
