Chapter 12
"Are mermaids real?" I asked and watched as confusion appeared on Paxton's face. "Are they nice?" I asked and received the gesture that meant sort of in reply. "I was hoping to meet one and maybe even swim with one." I said releasing a sigh as I slouched.
"It's really up to you, I can take you down there to meet some of them." Paxton suggested.
"Actually Paxton, let's just spend the rest of the day together today. Let's watch movies and maybe play some games. We could have an indoor day." I suggested. I really just missed watching a good movie.
"Anything that you want, my love." He said. "As he walked to the kitchen probably to get some snacks.
"Actually, what do you want to do?" I asked realising that he was more than willing to make me happy, but for once I wanted to do things that would make him happy.
"I just want to have you with me." He plainly said with a twinkle in his eyes.
"Paxton, what would you like us to do?" I asked him. "There has to be something that you've always wanted to do with your soulmate." I persisted, wanting Paxton to step out of his shell for a bit.
"When you put it that way then yes, I have a couple of things that I've always wanted to do with my soulmate." He admitted.
"What is it?" I asked him.
"There are a couple but for now I would really love to go to a picnic with you, just the two of us." He said looking at me with such dazed eyes that I couldn't help but to agree to the plan.
"Alright so let's make some sandwiches and prepare some snacks as well." I said going to the fridge and pulling out some fruits.
"There are a couple of stores where we're going, sweetheart. We can get some things when we get there," Paxton responded. "Would you like a floating table or a table on the ground?" He asked me.
"The floating table sounds very interesting but if I fall from there, I'm sure that I'll be a goner." I said a shiver going down my spine at the thought of such a thing happening. Besides when he said picnic I thought that he was talking about the more romantic, on-the-towel picnic, then again it's not like we're dating or anything so it shouldn't matter to me.
"I can tell that something's on your mind, what's wrong?" He asked looking at me with worried eyes.
"No, it's nothing at all." I said as I dismissively waved my hand while I forced out a chuckle.
"You do know that I can feel some of your emotions when they are strong enough, and at the moment you seemed to be in conflict with yourself. We don't have to go on this picnic if you don't want to Rose." He said with such seriousness that he began to make me nervous. I didn't like the fact that he could tell how I was feeling because I myself didn't understand some of my feelings sometimes, like today.
"No, I want to go. This would also give me the chance to see more of this world and experience more different things." I reassured being genuine about this.
"Okay then, if you're sure and ready then we can go," He said leaving me confused because the only thing that I had with me at the moment was a tub of strawberries. "I'll order some things to be brought to our picnic spot." He explained, this world sure was something else, ordering food to be brought to a picnic, then again I've never gone to many picnics myself. Maybe it was also a thing back at home.
"What mode of transportation will we be using?" I asked.
"That's up to you. The park is not that far away, we can take a flying car or even a Pegasus there." He said leaving me a little shocked.
"As in a flying horse, that sort of Pegasus?" I asked wanting to be sure that he and I were talking about the same thing.
"Yes, that sort of Pegasus." He said chuckling at my shock.
"That actually sounds great but we'll do that on another day when I have better fishing gear, plus I've never ridden a flying horse so I can picture many scenarios of me falling from it and that would end my very young life." I said shivering at the thought of falling from whatever high height it might be. I had a fear of heights, the was no denying that. But for some reason, I didn't seem to mind flying all that much.
"I would never let you die like that, not when I can help you," He said with such a serious tone that it made my heart swoon. "But we'll ride some other time, besides our Flaxi is a couple of seconds away so I think that we best be on our way." He finished as he gently pulled me to the door.
He guided me out of the now-familiar confines of the house and to the sunny outdoors. There in front of us waited a white Flaxi with its backseat door already open.
Paxton helped me in before jumping in after me and closing the door behind us. In less than a minute, the Flaxi flew up before bolting in the direction of where I assumed the park would be.

"Welcome to Wildwood Park," Paxton said as we stood in front of what looked pretty much like a normal park except there were floating tables and benches as well as tables on the grass and little wolves were nipping at each other, there were fairies, elves, and pixies, some were sitting up on floating desks, others were sitting on the tables that were on the ground while others were sitting directly on the grass, or on towels that were placed on the grass. There were a couple of what looked like food stands littering the place but some of the foods that they sold seemed completely foreign to me, which made sense since this was a different world, full of different people. All in all, it was a normal park though, with swings, jungle gyms and slides for children to play on.
"This is one big park, the little wolves that I'm seeing, are they werewolves?" I asked Paxton as I followed him into the park.
"Yes, they are. This is the biggest and most loved park here." Paxton said which explained why the was such a diverse population of supernatural beings here. This must be a spot that they share in common, a spot that they all love.
"Okay, so would ,you like a grass picnic or a table picnic?" I asked, knowing that deep down I wanted a grass picnic.
"Let's do a grass one, right over there." he said pointing over to a vacant spot that gave a view to a beautiful glimmering crystal-like lake.
"Great." I said pulling him to the spot to ensure that he wasn't going to change his mind.
When we reached the spot Paxton did something with his hands and this made a picnic towel appear right in front of us. I placed myself down on the spot and Paxton also followed, after he took a seat a pixie appeared and placed a box in front of us. The box opened to reveal a variety of treats and sandwiches of different kinds.
"This is a lot of food Pax, there is no way that we can finish it all. " I said not even knowing which food to eat first, there was a cake that was also calling out to me. My sweet tooth could never say no to cakes.
"We don't have to," Paxton said with amusement dancing in his eyes. "For now just eat the sandwich or burger or well...anything that you want. You can even eat the fruit salad or the veggies one." He said reaching out to the fruit salad which didn't surprise me because one thing that I had noticed was that his fridge had tons of fruits, and some of the fruits were not even identifiable to me.
"I guess that a good sandwich would be a good place to start." I said reaching out for one yummy-looking sandwich which tasted even better than it looked, after eating the sandwich. I reached over for some strawberries and the whipped cream, deciding that I'd eat the chocolate-dipped strawberries later on. Paxton then laid onto my lap the suddenness of it, halting me from taking another bite of my snack.
"Is this uncomfortable for you?" He asked looking worried as he moved off of my lap only for me to shake my head and pull him back down.
"I'm just not used to it." I explained as I placed the strawberry into my mouth and savoured the taste.
"That looks nice," Paxton said giving me a heated look, so I did what any person would do and took a strawberry, put some whipped cream on it, and then brought it to his mouth. I watched as he opened his lips and took a bite of the strawberry, his eyes not leaving mine as he chewed on the juicy fruit, "Delicious indeed." He added with a wide toothy grin. Letting out a giggle and shaking my head, I fed him another whipped cream-coated strawberry, contentment lit up Paxton's face as he munched on the fruit. He continued like this until we were rudely interrupted by a group of four boys.
"Hey there, Gorgeous, don't you want to come with us and leave the elf, I'll give you a much better time than he ever could." The man snickered as he looked at Paxton who had a big frown as well as a worried expression on his cute face.
"Did you hear anything Pax?" I asked completely ignoring the guys, I watched as Paxton's face clouded with confusion but after looking at me for a couple of seconds he seemed to catch onto my scheme.
"Nope, nothing at all." He said as he opened his mouth again and I placed another strawberry into his mouth.
"Oh, playing hard to get I see, that's fine by me. When you are tired with the elf just ask the people around for me, I'll be waiting." He said as he snickered at Paxton before he and his friends walked away with confident and arrogant strides as they moved on to another poor innocent girl.
"Douchebag." I muttered under my breath as I rolled my eyes and looked down at Paxton who was looking at me with amusement, love, and...fear.
"You know I'm scared that he might be right, you might get tired of me pretty soon, you could find someone better, more handsome, stronger, and definitely someone with more confidence." He said with sad eyes as he straightened himself up.
"You're way cuter and way more handsome than those men Pax. I find both of your forms to be super attractive and the is nothing that I would change about your looks. If better is those man then I will gladly do without it, I would rather have your intelligence over their self-centeredness any day. Even though you and I might not be together, I want you to know that you are a great person and an even greater soulmate, way better than any of those douchebags can ever dream to be," I said as I gently caressed his right cheek and watched as he leaned into my touch and closed his eyes, looking slightly pained which made me feel guilty. I had just caused him pain by reminding him about the fact that he and I were not a couple which is something that I knew he wanted more than anything and I think that more that days went by the more that I also started wanting the same thing. "Let's dig into the cake." I said wanting to change the topic and really wanting to eat some cake at the same, it had been tempting me for far too long, way longer than necessary that's for sure.
"You have a bigger appetite than I thought my little mate." He said as he reached over to get a slice of cake. Luckily the cake had already been cut into slices, all we needed to do was to dish up which is something that Paxton did for us.
"You want me to feed you again?" I asked teasingly asked him.
"Of course." He boldly said as he opened his mouth making me laugh as I put a fork full of sugary cake into his mouth. We carried on like this and then went to swing on a floating swing set near us. After that Paxton took me to see the beautiful crystal clear shimmering lake, which looked even more beautiful up close. It was a relaxing, amazing trip. By the time that we got back to the house, I felt tired, at peace, and happy.
"Roseanne," Paxton said causing me to stop in my tracks and face him. "As promised," He said looking torn and heartbroken as he handed me a box which didn't fail to confuse me. What was this and why was it upsetting Paxton so much, "I promised to give you the chance to choose whether you wanted to be with me or not, the team finished with the teleportation bracelet in that box. Just run your finger on the little screen on the bracelet, it will teleport you to your house, you might feel a little tired but nothing as bad as before." He said leaving me speechless and a little torn, this was what I had originally wanted but in these past 4 days I had gotten used to being around Paxton so much that I almost didn't want to go.
"Thank you so much." I said as I got on my knees in front of Paxton and pulled him into a hug as tears leaked out of my eyes, it felt so bittersweet to leave this world. On one hand, I felt happy at the opportunity of being with my mother and Renee again but at the same time it was a little hard to think about leaving Paxton. In the short amount of time that I have known him, I have grown attached to him and I knew that I would miss him.
"I just want you to know that I love you, Rosie." He said as he pulled away and wiped away my tears with the saddest of eyes and the saddest smile that I had ever seen him have on his face and then he was gone. It was so fast, that he was gone before I could even process his confession.
