“What are you doing?”

Ken sat at the table, his hands clasped under his chin, staring at the two divorce papers. His

showed no sign of panic; he was confident I

I had pursued him since high school, following him to college. We never even had the right to argue because I would always make up with him whenever he treated me coldly.

My heart was in agony, torn between the regret of losing our daughter and the realization that my years of genuine love were wasted.

For the first time, I saw a change in his

expression. In his shock, I said, “Let’s… get a

divorce.”

The control he had over me was gone, like a wild dog breaking free to seek its freedom.

Ken clicked his tongue, his tone softening slightly. “Cloris, what madness are you up to now? Do you really need to do this? Do you have to push me like this? Can’t you wait until she’s better?”

After a long pause, he tried to say something he thought would sway me, “You don’t want Diana to grow up without a complete family, do you?”

The old me might have been moved by those words, feeling he finally saw us as a family. But in just a few days, everything had changed. Now, his words felt aggressive.

“Diana… is already gone.”

My voice was as calm as it could be, but his words made my eyes well up again.

My head ached.

My eyes hurt.

My heart was breaking.

“I’ve told you to stay away from that troublemaker. Are you going to ignore my words now? I’m not divorcing you, so stop causing trouble. Be good.”

In a flash, the divorce papers became a crumpled mess, tossed into the trash by Ken.

We parted ways in anger.
