Chapter 31: Carter
"I'm going to call Carter." Liam tells us and Spencer nods as Liam walks towards the end of the road to make the phone call. I have no idea who Carter is but Liam said he is going to contact him so it seems as if I will soon get to meet him. After a few minutes Liam comes back over to us and tells us that this Carter guy will be here soon. "Are you sure you want to stay at the pack house?" Liam asks again and makes direct eye contact with me. I nod again and say, "Liam, why do you sound as if you don't want me to come?" I ask. More than ever I want to stay somewhere I will be protected at all costs. Someone almost killed us just now and I'm not down for a round two. I think I have enough to last me a lifetime. "Of course I want you to stay but I want to know if it's okay with you first." Liam responds and my hearts thumps loudly in my chest. He only wants what's best for me and I can see that my safety already means alot to him. Which is weird to me, but it feels nice to have someone else except my bestfriend or my parents and my siblings to care about me. Liam has been nothing but kind and caring to me and I feel as if I am being unappreciative to him. Before I can respond to Liam, my bestfriend butts in. "Can you two stop already? We've all confirmed that Emerald will be coming back to the pack house with us so I don't see why you guys are acting like a married couple." She says and she sounds like she's stifling back a laugh. After a pause she continues. "Anyways, there's Carter." Spencer tells us and points to a approaching black Tesla. It parks a few meters away from us and a tall lean male steps out of the car and he is has a huge grin on his face. Carter, I assume is wearing a shirt with a crooked sunflower sewn on its front and a pair of dark blue jeans. "Hey." Carter walks over to us with a huge, welcoming smile on his face. He approaches Liam they both have a silent conversation which I'm stretching my poor ears to hear. Unfortunately, because I don't have any werewolf abilities such as heightened hearing, I cannot hear a word. Carter finally walks over to us after his conversation with Liam. "Hello ladies." He says in a lazy monotone, sounding slightly seductive. Carter always have a smile in his face and seems like the person who no one can tell if he's happy or sad. "Hi, Carter." I say nervously and automatically hand him my hand which he kisses and I blush furiously. "I'm Emerald." My cheeks are still betraying me because Carter is so cute and is such a gentleman. I hear Liam clear his throat and Carter laughs and waves him off. "Spencer." He addresses my bestfriend who is still sitting on the hard asphalt road with her arms crossed. She stands up quickly and inches closer to Carter, as if smelling him. Before Carter can say anything else, Spencer delivers a fist to his abdomen and I'm surprised he doesn't falter from the blow. Well, he is a immortal tough, guy. "I smell brownies on your breath. If I go home and my brownies are missing, I'm going to bury you alive." Spencer threatens and I see Carter dramatically gulp. I know Spencer long enough to know that she doesn't give empty threats so Carter better ensure that it isn't Spencer's brownies that he has eaten or he will probably get decapitated. "Nice to see you too." Carter nervously says, waving Spencer off, who has a smug smile on her thin lips. "How about going home?" Liam shouts across the road to the three of us. "That would be really great. I need a vacation." I say to no ons in particular and let out a puff of breath. I am tired, and the fact Liam and I almost died, I mean I almost died, is not a helping factor. Sleep would be really good right now and I would do anything to get a good night's rest on a comfortable bed with a soft, clean duffet wrapped around me. Oh, yeah and a nice warm bath. "Let's head back then!" Carter yells, his fear of Spencer now forgotten. Until we reach home, atleast. My bestfriend wraps her long arms around my waist as we walk back to the car. "Are you okay?" She asks and I nod and drop my head into her comfy shoulder. Home.
