Chapter 38.
We fall in love with three people in our lifetime, each one for a specific reason. Now I don't know about anyone else but there are the three types of love I've personally encountered, each with their own depths.
The first love often happens at a young age, you eventually grow apart or call it quits over silly things. When you get older, you may look back and think it wasn't love. But the truth is, it was love for what you knew it to be, and I got highly privileged to still have my first love turned best friend with me for ten years now.
The second one is the hard one. You get hurt in this one. This love teaches us lessons and makes us stronger. It includes great pain, lies, betrayal, abuse, drama, and damage. But this is the one where we grow. We realize what we love about love and what we don't love about love. Now we know the difference between good and bad humans. We become close, careful, cautious and considerate. We already know exactly what we want and what we don't want. My experience with Tony can testify to that.
Then the third one comes blindly. No warning. It creeps on you silently. You don't go looking for this love, it comes to you. You can put up any wall you want, it will be broken down. You'll find yourself caring about that person without even trying. They look nothing like your usual crush types but you get lost in their eyes daily. You hide nothing from them. You want marriage and family with them. You thank the universe for them. You truly love them.
I couldn't let Maverick and his mom get into a fight because of me so I went visiting her house to set things right. He had no idea. I brought pansies along with me and she actually let me in whereas I thought I'd be kicked out by her securities. We had this heart to heart woman talk where I found out she knew about the mayor having an affair outside her marriage but wanted to have it confidential so as not to tarnish his reputation.
I wasn't sure if she'd totally forgiven me until she said. "Make sure I get to have a granddaughter so that I'll name her Rose." And I guess that was her own way of telling me 'welcome to the family.'
The mayor got moved to an old people's home after being diagnosed with dementia. He doesn't remember me but I visit him every week with Callum to fulfill my daughter-in-law's responsibilities.
I got to have my Reporting job restored back to me by Pansy. My boss hosted a welcome back party just for me and beamed with joy as she told me how great it was having one of her best staff back in the company. She got my name correct this time.
Garret's wife is pregnant. Yes, again. I'm not even going to talk much on that because his case is already way past what I can handle.
Let's not leave out the two love birds who got married the same day Maverick and I did. It was a double wedding. Jim finally proposed to Jacqueline on a ship cruise. He slipped the ring on her finger while she slept and when she woke in the morning with Jim beside her on the bed looking all nervous, he said a very unusual statement;
"Marry me or leave my ship."
They were in the middle of the sea and she just woke from a nap, trying to register to her brain what was going on. It was followed by a happy scream, then a squeal, then the rest of what happened is not mine to tell.
Elise traveled back to England to continue being royalty.
It's currently one week after the wedding where Maverick and I are both in the Maldives for our honeymoon. It makes me remember our France trip months ago that went wrong.
"What's going on in your head April?" Maverick nuzzles his face against my neck beside me, already pulling at the tie that holds my robe together.
"When we have kids, I don't want them knowing we met at a night club," I say as he laughs softly into my neck.
"Is that what's bothering you? How we met?"
"Well, sort of."
"We could give them the Cinderella story."
I arch a brow. "What?"
"Yeah, it'll go like this; I was your knight in shining armor, you were my Cinderella who left behind her lipstick on my lips on a party night and went off running when the clock struck 12:00. This knight wants to find this mysterious girl and goes searching for her."
"You never went searching for me. I literally had to come to your doorstep."
"It's my story, get to imagine it
.n
however I want. Now stop talking and let's create our own happily ever after." He pulls the robe aside, tossing away the flimsy thing to the floor as his mouth works its way down my breast bone.
I'm the girl who got a happy end but with a lot of problems and hurt along the way which totally built me to the person I am now. I'd like to think everything that happened in the past months happened for a reason, or maybe because everything turned out great for me. I want us to be that couple who'll hold our hands at eighty and say 'we made it,' so I recreated another
bucket list after we got married.
Everything brings me back to the day I felt my heart swell in my chest when I saw what he had on the last number of his bucket list.
#Bucket list number 15# Get Married.
