Chapter 59 You Made Many People Worried
The patient who was only about thirty-five years old looked thin and dispirited like a standing corpse as he had been infected with AIDS for many years.
This was the first time she had come into a close contact with an AIDS patient.
Putting on the gloves, Riley Watson opened the patient's eyelids and listened to the patient's heartbeat. The doctors drew back in shock when they saw such a condition made by Riley.
"What are you still waiting for? Bring over the medical kit as the patient's breathing is weak and his heart is beating slowly. Perhaps the patient's condition worsened suddenly which led to severe headache that caused syncope. Give the patient an infusion of 300 mL of zidovudine." The young doctor shivered, "I... I dare not!"
Even a few male doctors stayed away and originally a medical team of eight, only Riley treated the patient seriously.
Riley then became furious, staring at the other seven people angrily, "Listen, since you all are here, make a good job! There are only three ways of transmission of the virus, as long as safety protocols are taken, nothing will happen. Make the decision by yourself. If we don't check all the patients today, we will have to continue tomorrow!"
Knowing that they might have to continue tomorrow, the male doctor immediately sobered up, "Alright, I will prepare the intravenous drip right now!"
Riley found a blood vessel on the back of the patient's withered hand and stuck in a needle, slowly, the liquid was injected into the patient's body.
A little boy looked at Riley in panic, "Miss...is my mum going to die? The aunt next door died yesterday. Is my mum...going to die too?"
The little boy's face and hands were full of mud and his hands seemed to have not been washed clean for many days. Yet, there was a stench of sweat smell, but his innocent eyes made others dare not to have any prejudice.
Looking at his eyes, Riley said, "No, your mum will wake up later, where is your father?"
The little boy headed down, "My father...died last year. My mum said she will die too and the same goes for me..."
His soft voice made Riley feel sad and tears glittered under her eyes.
"Little boy, don't be afraid, actually..."
The little boy lifted his crying face, "Miss, I know this disease can't be cured. You don't have to lie to me."
Knowing that she might have revealed, she then changed her words, "I won't lie to you, you are a smart child. What I want to say is that all of us will die, sooner or later, and I will die too. However, you and your father will meet in another place after death. Hence, there is nothing to be afraid of."
The little boy rubbed his nose, "Really?"
"Yes! I won't lie to you!"
The little boy said timidly, "Let's make a pinky promise."
Riley was stunned as her white finger hooked his black hand and she smiled gently, "Sure!"
A few doctors at the back looked at each other and muttered in a low voice, "Is Dr. Watson crazy? This kid is also...sick."
"But, don't you guys think that Dr. Watson's gentle look is beautiful?"
"Don't you know what is going on now? Don't make yourself into trouble!"
A male doctor took the initiative to carry the medicine box for Riley, "I don't expect that the legend among the physicians is like this!"
Riley chuckled, "What should I be like?"
The male doctor then smiled unnaturally, "Anyway, it is not the same as what I heard."
After leaving the little boy beside his mother, a few doctors went to the temporary consultation shed where there was a long queue outside as there were forty to fifty patients in this village!
The oldest was just over forty years old and the youngest was still a baby.
Each of the doctors started their work seriously.
Riley was in charge of a comprehensive checking to see if any of them had heart-related diseases. Fortunately, although these people were weak, their hearts did not have serious diseases. Otherwise there was really nothing to hope for.
"Dr. Watson, this female patient broke her leg one year ago and she has not been treated with any bone treatment. Now her condition is becoming worse, and she must have surgery now in order to make the bones heal again."
Surgery for this group of people was a big challenge for doctors as any slight mistake will...
Both the orthopedists and Riley turned silent, "Is there any other way? Isn't in vitro correction effective?"
One of the male doctors shook his head, "No way, the bones are severely misaligned and forcing the correction will break the bones."
The patient who was a girl in her twenties laughed at herself when she heard the doctor's words, "I know what you all are afraid of, the operation will involve bleeding and you all are afraid of being infected by me! What are you doing here if you all fear of being infected! Get out! Get out of here!"
The female patient who limped on one leg yelled at the doctors.
A female doctor who couldn't bear with it anymore immediately stood up and argued," You've got the disease due to your own misbehaviour, and we've come to see you with good intentions but you're scolding us! This is what you deserve!"
"What did you say, bastard! Say it again if you have the guts! I don't have any more time to live, so I'd like to take someone with me before I die!"
The female doctor was so frightened that she rushed to hide behind the male doctor and howled with fear on the spot when the patient was about to yank her.
Riley tried to comfort the patient, "Don't worry, we will definitely find a way to cure your leg. Let's discuss the treatment before deciding. Is that okay?"
The female patient then sneered, "Hypocritical! You all are hypocrites! You all are just here to get the news to report on you and praise you! Stop pretending!"
Riley was annoyed, "Miss, we don't have time to play with you. There are still many queuing patients, please give the way first."
"Black-hearted scum! I want to kill you all! I want to kill you all!"
Before the female patient calmed, a coarse and hoarse man's voice suddenly came from the back of the queue where a man in his early forties with a kitchen knife in his hand was roaring as he was running frantically this way! Shocked by the situation, Riley shouted, "What are you doing!!"
The man swung his knife and was about to slash!
"I want to kill you all, bastard! Bastard! You all scam money and kill people! I want to kill you all!"
Holy shit!
The village secretary rushed over immediately and shouted, "Drew Hardy, put the knife down! Put it down! These doctors have come from the city to treat you all! What are you doing? Put it down!"
Red eyes embedded in his dark face, the man stared at those stunned doctors angrily, "Listen! I sold my blood once at the hospital in order to cure my child and I got this disease! My wife and child died! All were dead!" Riley dumbfounded as she knew the truth.
"Sir, there is a certain risk in selling blood, but that doesn't make it the doctor's fault. The virus can lurk in a person's body for up to twenty years, or it could be..."
"Bitch! You don't know anything! Everything is caused by you guys who are doctors! You guys are the culprit! I'm going to kill you all to get revenge for my wife and child!" ""Calm down!"
The knife was slashed down! Riley's left arm can't dodge in a hurry and the blade cut directly into her flesh!
Riley could not see the wound, but from the mark of the knife on her clothes, she could see that her arm was more than half ruined.
"Dr. Watson! Dr. Watson!"
The cowering doctor behind her hurriedly ran up and covered her arm, "Dr. Watson, hold on, I'm going to stop the bleeding right now!" Riley's eyebrows knitted together in pain, "Hiss---"
The knife in Drew Hardy's hand fell to the ground and he was panicked, "I...I..."
"Drew Hardy, if there is anything wrong with Dr. Watson's arm, you must pay with your life!"
The village secretary was scared too as these were all the renowned doctors from JD City! They couldn't afford to pay for the mishap!
The female doctor wiped her tears as she cleaned the blood from Riley, "Alas! Dr. Watson..."
Riley frowned, "I'm not dead yet? What are you crying for?"
The crowd was in a dead silence where no one dared to utter a word. Meanwhile, the man who just chopped Riley's hand knelt on the ground, yet his mouth stammering, "I...I... I don't know..." Riley was in pain, "How? Want another chop?"
"No! No!"
"Then, get up."
The man froze, "I..."
The doctor on the side scolded, "Get up when I tell you to! Hurry up! Get out!"
The male doctor's gloves were stained with Riley's blood and he turned even nervous, "Dr. Watson, it is chopped into the artery and the blood...can't be stopped, what should I do?" Riley went speechless.
Damn it! She almost forgot that they were only new to the hospital who were less experienced. They would only ask their mentor what to do when they encountered an emergency. Oh fuck!
"Calm down and stop the bleeding first. Tell me what is artery and what is aorta?"
"No..."
"Then what are you afraid of! Stop the bleeding first, put the anaesthesia and stitch up the wound!"
""Dr. Watson, I... I dared not..."
'Damn it! I want to kill them! How dare they come to treat the patients like this!'
"Riley!"
A clear voice rang out suddenly in the mess and it was William Hardesty who was running over here. Riley's lips were pale and dry as she sat on the chair, a large part of her body already stained with blood. "What happened?!!"
Kneeling down, William gazed at her and he felt his heart was pierced through forcefully by a sharp knife.
"Mr. Hardesty, Dr. Watson's artery of her left arm was just cut and he is injured now..."
"Get out!"
William, who was always elegant, scolded the clumsy male doctor away in anger and he vigorously pressed on her wound, "Tear it!" Tearing the white coat along the wound, there was a patch of blood on her white arm! "Don't be afraid, it's a lateral artery cut, just bear with it. Bear with it."
"What are you still waiting for?! Anaesthetics please!"
"Alright..."
Sweating with anxiety, the stupid emergency response of several doctors even made him angrier, "Haemostatic needle please, faster!"
"Suture needle please! Hurry up!"
The arm was anesthetized and the pain slowly turned into numbness. Riley who was settled on the stretcher lifted her head, looking at William's sweaty face, "Mr Hardesty, I'm not going to die this time!" "Don't talk, save your strength, you'll be fine soon."
"This small injury is nothing to Mr Hardesty, why are you so nervous?"
"Because of you! Understand?"
Kneeling on the ground, William stitched up the wound slowly. If it wasn't his strong technical experience supporting him, he would have messed up too. "...ah..."
Her pale lips smiled like a white camellia flower and she looked at the blue sky.
How many surprises were there in life?
William stitched up her wound and wrapped a layer of gauze around it, "Riley, do you know that you make many people worry of you?"
