Chapter 30 The Worm That Wakes Up Early Is Eaten by a Bird
On the high floor of the Grand Palace Hotel and in a luxurious private residence that occupied half a floor, Euan was lying inside the white blanket. He stretched out his lean arm and lazily rubbed his brow. Outside the tall floor-to-ceiling window, it was half of the scenery of the city early morning. It was raining cats and dogs outside.
Hearing Riley's voice on the phone, Euan's brows somehow relaxed a little. This imperceptible action was affecting Euan's mood positively. He suddenly felt that the rainy weather outside was pretty wonderful. Riley was listening to his response seriously but she could only hear the soft rustling sound created by Euan whom she did not know what was he doing. Was Euan really so unwilling to talk to her? She had to wait for a long time to hear his response every time. Was he testing her patience or trying to make her lost her temper?
Riley watched Hendrix while waiting for Euan. She was so angry that she gritted her teeth. In this early morning, were this man and his younger brother trying to test the endurance of her heart?
Euan slowly lifted the blanket and got up. He walked barefoot to the window. His bare upper body was straight and the lines of his muscles were outlined clearly.
His long fingers were patted at the glass based on the rhythm of the raindrops.
Riley waited until she was annoyed and was about to scold someone. Euan's voice sounded, "Ignore him, I'll handle."
So, after waiting for quite a while, he only gave her such a response?
Riley seethed with anger and was about to hang up the phone but Euan's voice sounded again, "Take the stuff in the bathroom of the first floor upstairs, I'll use it in half an hour."
The phone was hung up directly by Euan.
Riley looked at the phone screen and froze for three seconds. What did Euan's sentence just now mean?
Euan stood still and faced the city. His lips curled slowly.
A dozen seconds later...
Through the screen, Riley saw that Hendrix was answering a phone call. Hendrix's expression was at first quite excited but after saying three sentences, his face suddenly turned blue. Riley silently stood at the door watching Hendrix's various changes in expression.
What happened suddenly? Whose phone call was so deterrent and formidable?
Could it be Euan? She was muttering in her mind and Hendrix had already withdrawn his umbrella and gone into the car.
The car sped away in the rain. It seemed like there was resentment in the car.
Riley scratched her hair and was completely relaxed. She covered her mouth and yawned. She looked at the bathroom of the first floor and could not help but bite her lips.
Half an hour later.
Riley was already dressed properly. She was washing her face and brushing her teeth. When she looked up, the bathroom mirror reflected Euan's exceptionally handsome face.
"Ah!"
Riley was so shocked that she could not help but scream.
Damn, so horrible! She was still lowering her head to spit the mouthwash and when she looked up now, an extra face abruptly appeared in the mirror. Although this face had a kind of...lazy handsomeness, it was still too frightening!
"Euan, you want to scare me to death?!"
Riley covered her chest with her heart pounding wildly. The matter just now really scared the crap out of her. Were you fucking acting as a ghost!
Euan gazed at the woman beside him coldly and indifferently. In the mirror, their eyes looked into each other. His lazy and husky voice apparently portrayed a sense that he still had not slept enough, "Hendrix will come very soon. Take off your clothes."
There was still toothpaste foam in Riley's mouth. Awe-struck and flabbergasted, she looked at Euan's expressionless face, "Take off my clothes?!"
Euan wearily leaned on the bathroom door while his back was against the glass. He spoke steadily, "If you don't want to let him find out that we're totally not in a relationship, follow my order."
Euan had given Hendrix a reprimand on the phone just now. He directly warned that Hendrix had disturbed his morning time with his wife and ordered Hendrix to go out for a drive for half an hour then only came back. Otherwise, he would not let Hendrix enter the villa today.
And now, they were going to act as if they had just woken up to be shown to Hendrix.
Riley took off her clothes and put on the nightgown. She untied her hair and deliberately somehow tousled it to create a messy look.
Standing in the bedroom, Euan looked coldly at the other side during the whole process. Riley just thought that she was facing air and after changing her clothes, she turned around to look at Euan. He was wearing western trousers and a white shirt and he seemingly did not intend to change his clothes.
"You..."
When she had just uttered a word, the doorbell rang once again.
Euan's cold face did not have a trace of unnecessary emotion. Although his voice was not loud, it was louder than the heavy rain outside and made her heart tremble, "Shouldn't you go to open the door now?" A simple and clear command was given to Riley easily.
"Riley, don't tell me that you've just woken up?"
Hendrix indignantly put down the umbrella and shook off the raindrops on his shoulders. After entering the door, he silently sized up Riley. She was wearing a nightgown and there was still a tired look on her face. Her hands were in the pockets of her nightgown and there was apparently a faint fragrance coming out of her body.
Riley opened the shoe cabinet at the door and casually pulled out a new pair of man's slippers from it, "You've come over so early, Mr. George. Should I compliment you that the early bird catches the worm or should I remind you that the worm that wakes up early will be eaten by a bird?"
Hendrix put on the new slippers and shrugged his shoulders indifferently, "No matter it's a bird or a worm, as long as it wakes up early. There will be food for it."
With a little scorn, he gazed at Riley with a deliberate unrestrained manner.
"I don't know you'll come so early. The breakfast isn't ready yet. You want some food? There's no food. Go and get yourself whatever you want to drink from the refrigerator."
Hendrix twitched her lips and laughed while slanting his head, “My elder brother is still sleeping but you wake up first. Riley, you're really a good woman.”
The teasing tone made her felt uncomfortable upon hearing it.
Had it your own way.
"I'll go up first."
"Okay! Take care."
After watching Riley's figure disappear, Hendrix paced around the living room and observed.
This was his first time to come to his elder brother's house. He naturally would first size up the overall furnishings and the furniture. It was elegant and simple European style and there was luxurious and expensive furniture that was made by a popular craftsman. The seemingly ordinary furnishings were all the leading products of auctions.
Regarding this house, luxury was secondary but the main thing was Euan's thought.
Hendrix simply picked up a porcelain product and he could not help but doubt. He thought in mind that Euan did not pay much attention to Riley. During the day in the banquet of the George family, he could already see that something was wrong. But why did Euan put so much effort into this house?
Riley opened the bedroom door and saw head-on Euan who had just finished taking a shower and was wrapped in a bath towel. There was only a bath towel on his waist and the water drops of his body had not been wiped. His wet hair was dripping with water beads. This unexpected scene made Riley's heart suddenly throbbed wildly.
"You, why do you..."
"Is there any problem that I get up early to take a shower?" Euan's fingers were stretched backward to fondle his thick black hair. With the action of the fingers, water beads were flung out little by little. Some water beads were spilled on her face but Euan apparently did not care about it.
Riley bit her lips, "Nothing. Your brother is downstairs. Don't you go over to take a look?"
Euan's eyes looked indifferent, "Sure."
Finished speaking, he reached out and opened the door, preparing to go out. Riley could not help but ask hastily, "You go out like this?"
Euan did not turn his head, "I'm at my own house to see my own brother. How do you think I should be?"
Bah!
Your own house, your own brother? So, the only outsider here was her and she was the only one who should be careful and cautious.
Riley turned her head and did not ask anymore. Very good, as you liked.
Euan walked to the staircase and his long legs paced down the steps one by one, "Hendrix."
Hendrix, who was playing with the porcelain product, looked up and saw his elder brother. His eyes flashed with a hint of indifference and then he shrugged his shoulders and snorted in a manner as if he was an immature young man, "Euan, you only care about yourself to sleep and surprisingly let me stand in the rain outside for half an hour. Euan, you have to compensate me."
With a bare upper body, Euan naturally sat on the sofa with his legs crossed on the corner of the table. His status as the male owner was fully shown, "Say what kind of compensation you want."
Hendrix gazed at his elder brother's appearance and thought of Riley's nightgown just now. Clear displeasure welled up in his heart but he still showed a smile, "I saw a flat dish of the late Ming Dynasty on the antique shelf. Its colour and style are very much to my liking, so why don't you give it to me?"
The flat dish of the late Ming Dynasty cost Euan more than seventy million yuan during the auction at that time. It was one of the collections Euan treasured a lot.
"Okay."
Hendrix raised his eyebrows, "My elder brother is really generous. Regarding the matter in the morning, I'll let bygones be bygones!"
The two of them were chatting. Riley changed clothes and walked down from the second floor. She was in a simple beige suit. Her waist was tied with a light red belt which showed the shape of her slender waist while her collar was not low. Although her body shape was visible, it still looked quite morally suitable for her to meet a guest.
Hendrix looked up the stairs. A flash of light sparkled in his eyes. And Euan, who was seemingly holding a glass of water for a sip, noticed all Hendrix's reaction.
After sipping a mouthful of tea, Euan hid his emotion and looked at Riley, saying, "Hendrix has not eaten breakfast, prepare three sets of breakfast today."
Riley curled into a cold smile, and then responded softly, "Alright, you guys chat first, I'll go to the kitchen to make breakfast."
The playacting started.
Hendrix withdrew his gaze from Riley and asked casually, "Is Riley always the one who prepares breakfast?"
Euan nodded in a way that it was a matter of course, "Yeah."
Hendrix's face did not show any emotion but he was actually unhappy with it. Thinking of the matter that his elder brother and Riley sat together at the table every morning to enjoy the breakfast made by her, a dark mood came over him as if he had lost something treasured.
Euan took a glance at the kitchen, "Your sister-in-law's cooking skill is inferior to the chef's skill of the mansion. So, you have to make do."
She personally made the soup but Euan disliked the taste of her cooking.
Hendrix became even more annoyed.
"How can it be? I feel that Riley looks like one who's good at cooking, I'm sure the food made by her is delicious!"
Euan's thin lips twitched slightly. He put down the water cup and got up, "I'll go to change my clothes first."
Hendrix got up and watched Euan walk upstairs. Then, he turned around and walked to the door of the kitchen.
Hendrix leaned against the door frame with his arm wrapped, watching Riley's figure who was busy, "Riley, you and my elder brother really love each other so much! But during the banquet at the mansion, how come I can't feel it at all?"
Riley was frying an egg and her gaze remained on the pan, "Oh? This matter can be noticed?"
Hendrix sneered, "Riley, do you really think that I don't know anything?"
Riley's hand that was holding the wooden spatula suddenly froze. She bit her red lips lightly, "What do you know?"
