Chapter More 65

Chapter 65: A Bold Gamble

Rebecca knew she was on the brink of death.

Having weathered great hardship until her father’s recovery, she had hoped for a joyous existence with her family henceforth.

Yet, fate had struck her with a bolt from the blue.

Sandra’s words abruptly brought her back to harsh reality.

Without hesitation, she seized Sandra’s wrist.

“Sandra, I recognize you as a benevolent soul,” her eyes brimming with tears, her voice resolute.

“Therefore, I cannot allow myself to be a burden to you.”

Sandra was stunned.

She had expected Rebecca to emotionally manipulate her into providing an antidote by paying her compliments.

Tears continued to trickle down as Rebecca went on,

“I have always prayed for my father’s recovery.”

“I vowed that if my father were to be healed, I would be willing to embrace death immediately.”

“Now that I’m not facing immediate death but granted three months. I’m immensely grateful.”

As she spoke, her tears became uncontrollable, cascading down like a breached dam.

“Sandra, those people are cruel and malicious. I couldn’t bear it if you came to harm because of me. I implore you, do not seek the antidote.”

Sandra appeared surprised. “Can you just dismiss your own life?”

“Sandra, you protected me, so I want to protect you too,”

Rebecca dried her tears, striving to appear composed.

“I must not implicate you. It is my baseline.”

“If you risk your life out of sympathy, I would take my own life.”

Sandra stood frozen.

She staunchly believed that pure–hearted individuals did not exist in the world, apart from her master.

Hence, even when faced with disdain and scorn from the Hill family or being forced into an arranged marriage, she felt sadness but not excessive torment.

Yet, upon witnessing Rebecca’s plight, her master’s words echoed

within her.

Amidst the world, there is always sincerity worth your pursuit.

She gently patted Rebecca’s shoulder.

“I got the antidote.”

“???”

Sandra could not help but laugh at her befuddled expression.

“When I was abroad, I unintentionally offended some people. Their retaliation seemed quite normal to me. But I did not anticipate that it would involve you.”

Rebecca said, “I’m glad to shield you from calamity.”

“Don’t say that.”

Sandra continued,

“I own a lab abroad where I conduct research on the antidote. Now I plan to continue the research here. Would that interest you?”

Rebecca was extremely intrigued.

After all, this was the antidote she desperately needed.

“Sandra, I’m definitely interested.”

Sandra smiled,

“What is your current field of graduate study?”

“Biomedical sciences.”

Sandra nodded, “That aligns perfectly. How would you like to be my doctoral student?”

Rebecca was dumbstruck.

If Sandra’s claims were true, she must at least hold a postdoctoral position.

“I’ll take you home now. I will give you the antidote another day.”

Even amidst her daze, Rebecca did not lose sight of what was important.

She clutched Sandra’s hand excitedly. .

“Sandra, I am willing to be your doctoral student.”

Sandra let out a soft chuckle. “Deal.”

Department of Orthopaedics.

Earl wore a cast on one arm, which presented a somewhat comical sight.

Aside from that, there seemed to be no other abnormalities.

Catching sight of Earl standing within the corridor, Emily quickly

advanced towards him.

“Earl, why have you left your bed? The doctor has instructed you to rest.”

Earl responded with anger,

“After your family almost crippled one of my arms, why are you still showing up in front of me? Get lost!”

Unperturbed, Emily spoke softly,

“The competition was fair and I couldn’t apologize to you for that. Sandra was truly impulsive and I will persuade her to apologize. However, you must take care of yourself first.”

Earl contemplated, “Can you truly make Sandra apologize?”

“Do you think I’d lie to you?”

Suddenly, one of Earl’s bodyguards pointed outside.

“Isn’t that Sandra?”

Everyone turned their gazes towards the entrance, spotting Sandra supporting a girl.

That girl had her face turned away, preventing a clear view of her features.

They appeared intimate, possibly close friends.

“Emily said Sandra would come to apologize, and here she is.”

Excited, the bodyguard prepared to head out,

“She must be lost. Mr. Black, I’ll bring her to you.”

Earl’s expression was mischievous, “Excellent.”

If Sandra was coming to apologize, he had already envisioned a thousand punishments to torment her.

He looked down at his plastered arm, vowing that Sandra would suffer a pain far greater.

Emily’s hands clenched tighter, beads of cold sweat forming on her forehead.

She couldn’t have predicted such a coincidence,

Her earlier words were merely a ploy to approach Earl.

Making Sandra apologize? It was unimaginable.

If Sandra arrived, Emily would bring shame to herself.

But…

If Sandra refused to apologize, it would further infuriate Earl.

Perhaps Emily would reap the benefits from the ensuing chaos.

Taking a deep breath, Emily decided to take a bold gamble.

After calling a cab for Rebecca Sandra found her path obstructed.

At first, assuming it was those foreign adversaries, she held nothing back.

Earl’s bodyguard barely approached before being seized and flipped backward.

“Ouch!”

He crashed to the ground, his bones seeming to fracture.

Seeing this, the rest fled to report back to Earl.

Sandra, frowning at their sudden retreat, knew they were not sent by her foreign adversaries.

Earl arrived in front of her with a group in tow.

“Sandra, you’re quite bold to beat my people. Don’t think you can leave.”
