Chapter More 61
Chapter 61: What if I Refuse?
A complex array of emotions enveloped Jagger.
He was somewhat at a loss for how to interact with Sandra.
Even though he was loath to admit it, Sandra had undeniably saved his life.
It was incumbent upon him to express his gratitude.
However, as he set about to approach her, he saw throngs of people converging on Sandra, showering her with congratulations.
She had earned widespread renown.
People clamored to ingratiate themselves with her.
Jagger stood frozen in place, overwhelmed by the situation.
Reminiscing about the time he picked Sandra up, he recalled her affection towards her five brothers and her desire to be fully integrated into the family.
But now…
Sandra was a mere stone’s throw away, yet he felt an insurmountable
distance between them.
“Jagger, aren’t you going to say something to Sandra?”
“She is your sister!”
“Wow, Jagger, you actually kept this from us the whole time!”
“Perhaps he intended to surprise us
“Jagger, could you ask your sister to teach me how to drift?”
“I want to learn that, too.”
“What are you talking about? If anyone’s going to learn, it should be Jagger first.”
“Exactly, once Jagger has mastered it, we can learn from him.”
“Jagger, my entire racing career now depends on you.”
Jagger said nothing, his gaze fixed on Sandra.
“Jagger, we’re going ahead.”
Worshipping Sandra, they rushed towards her.
Sandra felt besieged by their incessant fawning.
She longed to return home and sleep.
Yet wave after wave of people kept coming, seemingly endless.
Wesley looked up and caught Joey’s eye, who immediately understood his meaning and began to disperse the crowd.
Sandra made her way to the event organizers and received the keys to the prize car.
Then, she turned around and handed them to Wesley.
“From this moment forward, it is once again in your possession.”
She smiled and added,
“Please take good care of it.”
Joey was visibly moved, his eyes brimming with tears.
He knew well the countless races this car had been through with Wesley, the indispensable role it played in each.
He and Leo had long been by Wesley’s side, safeguarding his safety, but only this car truly understood Wesley.
As he fought back tears, Wesley, however, appeared serene.
Upon receiving the keys, tenderness flickered in Wesley’s eyes.
The air of aloofness that normally surrounded him dissolved completely.
His lips barely parted to say “Thank-” when suddenly, a group approached them abruptly.
“Sandra, I imagine you have plenty of racecars. You could spare this one for me,”
someone spoke up, rather discourteously.
The crowd turned to locate the voice.
Sandra’s brothers had been silent for a long while following Sandra’s triumph.
Emily’s cheeks burned with embarrassment.
Sandra’s racing skills alone could bring a steady stream of benefits to the family, despite initial doubts about her abilities after spending too much time in the rural village.
Emily could sense the gravity on her brothers‘ faces, as well as remorse and regret from Jagger who had just presented the award.
Are you all favoring her now?
You can’t!
I’m the sister you grew up with.
You can only cherish me, not her!
I won’t let it happen.
“My dear brothers,”
she began, her voice breaking as if suppressing a sob.
Gary and Kyle, who had been conversing, turned their eyes toward her.
Emily delicately dabbed at a tear at the corner of her eye.
“Sandra and I share the same birthday. Can we throw the party together?”
Now that Jagger had prize money and potential sponsorships, which was a great help for Kyle to negotiate contracts, the Hill family was out of financial peril.
So Emily’s birthday deserved a grand celebration.
Observing her brothers‘ reactions, a chill settled in Emily’s heart.
Had they forgotten her birthday?
Such oversight was unheard of in the past.
Surely, they must have been preoccupied with pressing affairs.
Struggling to reassure herself, she maintained a facade of genteel
charm.
“Please, I’m begging you.”
Gary agreed.
“I’m about to establish a new company. Let’s announce it on your birthday party.”
Emily brightened, “Gary, you’ve finally, finalised your preparations and can start your company. That’s wonderful, congratulations!”
Gary smiled,
“Within my expectations.”
Just then they heard a voice, “Look, someone is picking a fight with
Sandra.”
All eyes turned in Sandra’s direction.
Earl Black, a well–known figure in Geniston.
The Black family had risen meteorically in recent years, with interests in almost every industry.
As the family’s sole heir, Earl was regarded as Geniston’s most influential individual these two years.
Earl was a guy who reveled in the nightlife and adored racing.
He had long coveted this car and had solicited Daniel’s assistance to
get it.
However, Sandra had unforeseenly thwarted his plans.
Upon seeing her, any hint of his carefree demeanor vanished,
replaced by a stern gravitas.
The aura Sandra exuded was as pure as an edelweiss–so breathtaking.
That exquisitely delicate visage made his heart race uncontrollably.
He could hardly take his eyes off her.
Sandra scoffed, “Why should I spare it for you?”
The retort snapped Earl back to his senses.
Inhaling greedily, he felt enveloped by her faint fragrance.
His thoughts ran wild.
“I’ll give you anything you want in exchange.”
Earl proclaimed, confidence underpinned by his extensive experience in pursuing women.
Even though she’s married.
Joey’s expression darkened, “Mr. Black, I advise you to retract your statement.”
Joey’s fingers made a clicking sound.
Earl’s bodyguards immediately stepped forward to shield Earl.
Sandra gestured for Joey to stand down.
Her cool gaze met Earl’s.
“What if I refuse?”
Earl nonchalantly smiled,
“If you refuse, I will take both the car and you away.”
